A player has three options before the waiver process kicks in. An option is used (only one per season) if a player is sent down for more than 20 consecutive days.
I don’t understand why the MLB decided to become tightassed with transactions when there are more important aspects of the game that need fixing.
This was my understanding. This is all I see on mlb.com Impending rule change that will go into effect at the start of the 2020 season Beginning in 2020, the minimum number of days a player will need to remain in the Minors after being optioned will increase from 10 to 15, with the same exceptions in play Do you have a link?
Several of our 17 and 18 year olds at the GCL are on fire right now Mahki Backstrom, since signing on 7/17: .294/.400/.412, 139 wRC+ Vaughn Grissom, since 7/13: .348/.421/.478, 158 wRC+ Stephen Paolini, since 7/31: .313/.463/.438, 167 wRC+
I am pretty sure it is just 20 days total, not consecutive days. The rule is designed to keep you from hoarding guys on your 40 man in the minors. You only get to keep a guy down in the minors (optional assignment) for 20 days total (or more) three times once they are on a 40 man. Pretty sure after year five, the player can refuse the optional assignment so you then have to keep them on the 25 man, trade them, or waive them. The rule change for 2020 that I saw was lengthening the minimum time required to stay for pitchers on a particular option assignment from 10 days to 15, unless they are replacing an injury.
That's great to hear. He has a place on this team with his bat alone. He's done it before and I think he'll do it again. He just needed to go down to either work on some things or to see that playing on this team isn't a guarantee. His ability to switch hit is big and his late inning power potential is huge too. He helped us steal one from the Nats with his late inning HR to win back in June. Pulling for him to get back and play well.
That’s what was funny about the crybabies on Saturday. As good as the Nats have been the last two months, they still haven’t gained substantial ground on us.
we are 22-16 over our last 38 which you would never know judging off how much some think we've struggled
It's a bold strategy just drawing names out of a hat for 5 through 8 to determine order but I like it
Was just reading about Players' Weekend nicknames and lmao Riley: Austin Riley: "OCHO" Riley will likely still be on the injured list during Players’ Weekend. But it’s worth noting that he chose this Spanish term after his teammates began referring to him as “eight” because he has so frequently been removed for a defensive replacement in the eighth inning.
Need to see a full list of players weekend names. Also hell yeah to Ortega getting another chance to play tonight. Hope he continues to take advantage of it. It's fun to pull for guys like him.
Ronald Acuna Jr.: "EL DE LA SABANA" Ozzie Albies: "BOLLY (PRAYER HANDS EMOJI)" Jerry Blevins: "JER-RY JER-RY JER-RY" Johan Camargo: "S.N.T.O" Charlie Culberson: "A.C.E.S." Josh Donaldson: "BRINGER OF RAIN" Adam Duvall: "DUVY" Tyler Flowers: "MMBB" Mike Foltynewicz: "HIGH FOLTAGE" Freddie Freeman: "PHILLIP" Shane Greene: "TEAM JAKE" Ender Inciarte: "ASTOLFO" Luke Jackson: "SKYWALKER" Matt Joyce: "SWEET SWINGIN'" Dallas Keuchel: "BIG D" Nick Markakis: "TTT" Chris Martin: "C MART" Brian McCann: "UNO SEIS" Mark Melancon: "MUH LAN SON" Sean Newcomb: "NEWK" Austin Riley: "OCHO" Mike Soroka: "ROCK" Dansby Swanson: "DANS" Anthony Swarzak: "SWARZY" Julio Teheran: "EL CABALLO DE OLAYA" Josh Tomlin: "JT"
Somebody needs to let these guys know what their Smoltzy nicknames are so they can get it right next year.
Miguel Cabrera on Acuna: "I think he is the best ballplayer born in Venezuela... For us (Venezuelans), he will be the Venezuelan Mike Trout."
Highest Rated Series Of Season Ratings numbers: - The three-game series with the Dodgers was the highest-rated series of the season at 4.53 HH (household, or the percentage of total television households that are viewing television during a given time period). - Braves telecasts on Fox Sports South and Fox Sports Southeast in Atlanta are up 8 percent in 2019 compared to this time in 2018. That may seem modest, except when you realize the Braves jump from 2017 to 2018 took the big leap in viewership (51 percent increase midpoint 2017 to midpoint 2018). The organization returned to relevance last summer, recaptured interest, and ratings have improved from there incrementally. - In something of an upset, none of the three games with the Dodgers this past weekend were among the top single telecasts of the season. The three highest rated games on FOX Sports South & FOX Sports Southeast in Atlanta remain: Monday, 8/5, Braves at Minnesota Twins on FSSE – 5.13 HH rating Sunday, 7/14, Braves at San Diego Padres on FSSO – 5.10 HH rating Tuesday, 8/13, New York Mets vs Braves on FSSE – 5.03 HH rating
