In the 909 nonetheless. Also going to Oakland for season 5. Only familiar with the SoCal JUCO’s. No idea on this place.
“Unlike the NJCAA, the CCCAA does not give scholarships to kids and California JC teams only play other California JC teams, which means there is always controversy over the Junior College National Title because the best team in California aren’t in the mix for it. The CCCAA has their own poll, rankings, and bowl games as their own governing body.” http://footballscoop.com/news/report-last-chance-u-new-school-lined-season-5/
I'm really behind in this show, but white blood coach kills me. Malik Henry is a shit head, sure. But this dude is stubborn and has benched during the game cause he was shitting on his coaching ability. And the other coaches were like why is he (Brandon or whatever) in there?!?! And this fucker yells I DON'T KNOW! Legit laughter for a couple minutes. He seems to care about his players but holy shit what a goof.
I’m not familiar with laney. You’d think like ccsf, el Camino, mt.sac or Fresno. But I just looked at the last rankings and laney was like #6. And then another google search and they were state champs in 18.
Sims has a lot of Buddy in him. One minute he's motherfucking his players and mocking JB and the next he's asking for the lord's forgiveness. Seems like the worst type of guy to play for. At least you could joke around with JB
OK, I'm actually annoyed we didn't get more EMCC because we missed this game https://www.emccathletics.com/sports/fball/2017-18/releases/20171112iaqt3k and I'm all for ridiculous offensive games like that. Buddy would have been flipping his shit the whole time and it would have been great.
It’s always frustrating when a D1 player leaves college early and doesn’t make a roster, but seeing him declare for the draft early from a DII School,
One of the kids that played with my nephew in HS signed there as a WR. Saw him this summer and he said Carlos hardly ever showed up to class and wasn’t going to be eligible next season.
Just started watching this. Watching the first season that follows Independence. Only 3 eps in so hard to tell how good or bad of a head coach this guy is but one thing that's for sure is he's a shit role model.
I will say this: JB seemed to actually care about the kids and getting them graduated and out of Independence. Buddy did not care at all, they were cogs in the machine to get him titles. Buddy just seems miserable to be around at any time. The OC is like the nicest dude on the show and all the players like him and Buddy finally manages to run him off at the end of season 2 after he lasted like a decade with Buddy.
Just finished the Garden City episode and no one from either coaching staff should ever coach in Division 1. Total embarrassment.
He'd say this while they were interviewing him or in a meeting then later at practice or during the game he'd yell at them that they were dog shit losers and challenge them to a fight lol
I get the feeling JB from Independence agreed to do to a Netflix show in hopes of helping recruiting. Ironically if I were a parent or whatever and he was recruiting my kid and I saw this...no way in hell is my kid going there.
Also all these parents/guardians talking about how proud they are. How their kid is going to D1 or NFL. Meanwhile these kids all have like 2 F's and 3 D's in a Juco in Kansas.
Kansas juco academics are hard. Everyone knows that. That's why Snyder would only take the best of the best.
I can hear his words already. "This is bullshit man, coach don't know shit. If they want to win they'll play me but obviously coach has something against me. Fuck this kid can't even throw a simple out route on time. When I was at FSU they knew how run a offense and this shit never would have happened."
Seems like a page or 2 ago in this thread there was a tweet that Henry was named the starter. Life comes at you fast. In 6 months, we will see Malik and Tathan battling at Southwest Missouri State or something.
My buddy coached against JB when he was at Compton College. Need to get more stories, but this was over a decade ago. He did say he was pretty much the same back then with his antics.
I've gone through all the seasons of QB1 over the past few weeks and really like the show. I thought Spencer Rattler had a little Tathan in him. Spoiler That was really weird how everyone just admitted at the end that yeah he got suspended from school and we covered it up with an injury. I assume he was smoking weed or drinking on campus. LeGendre seemed to be the most likable of the kids featured this year (the Gibbons kid going to Kentucky sees destined to injure himself surfing or something). As an FSU fan, would have been interesting to see how he ended up going to Maryland seemingly out of nowhere, but the show doesn't delve that deep into the recruitment. They are apparently filming a new season with that QB from Jacksonville Mandarin going to UGA. Speaking of these kind of shows. Has anyone ever seen Year of the Bull which was a doc about MIami Northwestern focusing on Taurean Charles in the early 00's. THat shit was absolutely crazy. Kids fighting each other, coaches fighting players. He was the guy got kicked out of UF for breaking some kids face with a keg. I don't see it on any of the streaming services. I remember renting it from Blockbuster back in the day. The comedian Tom Segura does whole bit about it. I highly suggest it if you can find it anywhere.
Markeise's mom facetiming him while she cries in the hospital really pissed me off. It's like she wanted him to feel bad for her.
Laney should be interesting. It's smack dab in the middle of Oakland. The program actually has some nice facilities and the coach John Beam has been there for a while and is by all accounts a good guy. I wouldn't expect him to be anywhere close to Buddy or Jason Brown. Might not have the Jerry Springer quality to it, but should show a different side to things with the Cali Juco's.
Finally watching the first episode. This back up QB chase looks like Humperdoo from Preacher lmaooooo
https://www.cdispatch.com/news/article.asp?aid=75107 EMCC hemorrhaging money. article's kinda slanted to blame football but they've lost 20% of their admissions in the last decade and that'd hurt any school. of note: Buddy makes $125k and assistant pay goes from $25k to $90k and holy shit, imagine making 90k to be a DC or OC at a JUCO in bumfuck MS.
I'm sure you could FOIA it since ICC is public but probably nothing like Buddy, EMCC spends way more than most anyone else. I'd be shocked if JB got $60k honestly.
