To be fair, I don’t give a fuck about Boston or LA teams but not having a local dissenting opinion guy on staff to take Bill’s Boston bias to task is kinda weak
People are just going to bitch that they brought in a random LA guy who sucks and won't be mean enough to Bill if they do that, anyway. What LA person could they have on that staff who would fill that role in a way that people wouldn't say that about him/her?
That Luck was just a fantasy QB, Colt's might not be worse with Brissett. He thinks Josh Allen is good, Tannehill>>Mariota, him and Sal both think Flacco is gonna be good.
Josh Allen is very bad at football. Second to last in completion percentage, interception rate and my personal favorite with that big arm he was second to last in yards per attempt.
He was a rookie with an awful WR corps and a bottom 3 offensive line. Writing him off as bad is just as hot takey as what you just were complaining about. Were you also writing off Goff after his rookie year? Mariota, entering his 5th year, is a much more known commodity then someone who just finished their rookie campaign. We know he is nothing more than an average, injury prone QB. you may suspect Allen may not put it together, but looking at his passing stats last year as a career measuring stick is laughable.
I mean, I have watched him throw the football and he is really bad at it. He was really bad at it in college as well. How often do woeful accuracy issues get better? Ive never been more confident in a take than I am with this one. Not that that means anything to you, obviously.
I don’t ever think Allen will ever be a high completion guy. Which is why he was 3rd in the draft. But I dare you to name his WRs, TEs and Oline from last year (without looking it up). Then ask if any of those guys are worth starting on any NFL team. He had the 2nd highest drop rate in the NFL. He was the best fantasy QB the last 6 weeks of last year. Which means he compensated with his legs to try to win games. Which I take as a nice competitive streak. But because his team sucked around him, he didn’t get to make the playoffs like Lamar. I’ll withhold judgment.
To be fair I’m not a mayes guy. His points are mostly forgettable, he doesn’t have a nuanced take on any particular issue, he loves linemen bc he was one but he presents no interesting info on them. When it was him and Barnwell I preferred Barnwell.
Bill is like most people on TMB when it comes to football. He's a massive homer who can't see anything football related that isn't through the lens of a Pats fan. Everyone is judged based on how they play against NE, whether he wins like Pats players do, whether he scares him as a Pats fan, etc. It's awful to read or listen to, and I don't think I've listened to a football pod or topic he's done in years.
Barn/Mayes had awesome chemistry. I remember when Max Unger got traded for Jimmy Graham while they were taping and you could hear their brains explode
he's weird, but in a kind of endearing way. super corny and sentimental but it's not as off-putting as you'd think. Also think he's gotten better over the last few years.
Glad everyone else is starting to jump on the gladwell is brutal train. There is still plenty of space on board
If you figured it out with your learning disability, don't you think the rest of us figured it out a while ago?
Gladwell is really good at asking a what seems like a basic question, and getting to an interesting place. Curiosity is his best trait and some cool stuff comes out of that. He isn't a professor or anything.
Love a good Simmons Gladwell pod where they discuss interesting articles they read two years ago and only sort of remember.
not to defend Gladwell but until he starts selling supplements or something I think the “smart person for dumb people” title has left him behind.
Lmao Bill, “Zeke would go in the 3rd or 4th round of a snake”, right after his bit about how snake draft leagues are full of morons. Also, Bill sounds like a fucking moron by claiming the Ewing theory with Luck retiring. He’s literally using season over season comparisons to justify it. Gee, I wonder if a quarterback is better behind a bad OL 4 years ago, or a good OL this year? Welp, Brisset stayed more upright and they ran the ball well, Ewing theory!
I think this a case of people being a little too overzealous to throw egg on Bill’s face. I don’t think Tatum getting hurt contradicts the point Bill was making with Shamet.
