A few thoughts after 1 listen - all songs would be just as good if they were half as long. - Chocolate Chip Trip is completely unnecessary - 7empest should start at the 1:15 mark imo
Spoiler feel like CCT would've been a great passage to spice up some some of the flatter drawn out sections of one of the songs, but yeah it just feels out of place in this context
Seems like a popular critique. A couple songs seem overly fleshed out and would better if split up. I like the new stuff but not everything needs to be a wandering epic. Give me 8 tight 6-9 minute songs instead. The segues seem especially unneccesary since just about every song starts out with 60+ seconds of ambient sound or "intro"

I'm sure most of you have already heard it, but I didn't even bother with the leaks. I'm not in love with any of the three songs I've heard from the album so far, but the excitement has been building all day. Can't wait to listen to it in the morning (not excited enough to stay up) and will even see if I can snag a physical copy tomorrow morning. It's funny comparing my anticipation now compared to Lateralus 18 years (fuck) ago.
Exactly. Listening now. Wished we'd get another opiate though(or similar) but absolutely enjoying this too.
I feel like 7empest has its own category for how good the song is, but after that, man, I really like Pneuma.
I'll relisten to the whole album at some point today, but I can't stop replaying 7empest right now. The reports of it being Adam's best work were not exaggerated.
Yeah. Heard Descending and Invincible live, and then Fear Inoculum when released. This am is the first time hearing the album.
Holding off til 7pm to have a first listen party with the guys I was friends with last time Tool dropped an album

in hindsight, wish I wouldn’t have listened to descending and invincible live not Surprising but they’re much better now
I never listened to the live versions. Descending is one of my 2 or 3 favorites from the album. Invincible is great too.
Thought they were awesome live. Listened to about 30 seconds of one YouTube recording and knew it wasn’t close to the real sound, so this morning was the second time I’d ever heard them. Thought they were both awesome.
Of course I only had the bootlegs to go off of, but the difference in Invincible's opening verse between the live/album versions is like night and day
Need to give this a second spin, Descending and 7empest were by far my stand outs, I didn't think much of Pneuma though
I bet they'll do a big spring/summer tour and also do a bunch of festivals next year, but yeah it is a bummer they're basically shunning the south this tour
Made 3 listen's today before the wife said I couldn't have it blaring on the sonos. Cooked dinner and now starting 4th on my headphones.
