haha. Dude (who was very cool, sorta normal dude) just said, 'I don't know how their palates are worth anything when they're drinking old fashioneds the whole meal with this food.' I tend to agree, but... Also, their house drink is a great take on a classic martini, and then just drink muscadet the rest of the meal imo imhv A/C was fine, too. I had a seared tuna dish with fresh vegetables that was absolutely amazing, also their version of snapper throats ("fish collars"). Ours was snapper, but they call it that so they can use whatever's available. It was pretty awesome. I had same reservations about price, etc., but it (and the service) delivered.
JFC. Can we please get rid of drunk racist dementia patient grandma? Gov. Kay Ivey apologizes for racist skit from time at Auburn https://www.al.com/news/2019/08/gov...html?outputType=amp&__twitter_impression=true
Bullshit we don’t get tolerance points for electing a lesbian governor. Alabama the progressive. What other state has a homosexual Governor?
I'm not a huge Ivey fan but it blows my mind that people want her ousted because of a blackface skit 50 years ago.
in other news i just had the buffalo chicken sandwich at hero doughnuts and holy shit it is fantastic
That... and supporting Moore after stating she believed his accusers... and going out of her way to protect confederate monuments... and raising taxes... and signing the bullshit abortion law... and being basically nothing but an empty suit for the Alabama GOP. And honestly, everyone already thought she was probably racist. Now it’s just out in the open. In a state that’s around 30% black it’s a big deal.
You're right. and i think the issues you addressed are much more relevant than something done 50 years ago. Having said that, I'm not black so I can't pretend to understand the significance of seeing your state leader do something like that, regardless of what decade it was. So I will rescind my comment.
The word you used is a homophobic slur so you feeling bad is appropriate and good. Might want to edit your post and refrain from using that term in the future. Just my though.
I hate that anyone wouldn’t feel comfortable enough to live their life openly because of the perceived (and actual) intolerance in our home state. I love everyone and advocate for equality and acceptance. I’m just frustrated and disappointed. Governor Ivey should use her platform and position of power to advocate for change and acceptance. Using that word was misguided frustration and weakness on my part.
Paramount is ok for football but there tv setup isn’t great. The sad part is if you really want to watch sports downtown, BWW has the best TV setup and sound.
It gets shit on for other reasons, but Hickory Tavern has a pretty nice TV setup, although not downtown. I think Avondale has a new “TV wall”’or something for football season. Might be an option if looking for a place near downtown.
Paramount has really good food and beer. The TV’s aren’t bad. There are a lot of them, they just aren’t big. If you’re going just to “watch football,” it works great. If you’re looking for one featured game, it’s not as good. Interestingly, it normally seems to have the widest cross-section of an bases of anywhere in town. A group of 10-15 Ohio State fans used to watch games there. Hickory Tavern has great TVs, but it’s a chain in a mall. If you’re going to take an Uber, just go to Otey’s.
Thanks. I’ll stick to Paramount. GF is from Tuscaloosa but I want to see multiple games. And care about good food.
Paramount is great. Former roommate works the door there so when I go out thats usually where I go. Their chili is amazing but i dont think its on the menu currently. Also a big fan of the onion wedges.
Paramount is a good spot. Funky industrial vibe. correct the TVs are so so. About to order some jerk wings
the wings are excellent. would also recommend any of the special fries they have going rn under the "share it" section.
SpartanGA don't know if y'all are beer people but Trim Tab is a must stop if y'all are. I joke around on here about Birmingham things being better than other cities but I'll say with complete honesty Trim Tab is doing some amazing things. Also saw on Instagram that they have a big screen up for football games. Atmosphere wise Avondale is best brewery as mentioned earlier. The Saisons are generally their best offerings IMO
The new Back Forty is legit, beer not as much. But it's not bad and their special beers are usually good.
Landed behind Avondale with live stage used for football tonite. Beer bar and turf to roll around on.
Their instagram ads got me, as I too thought it looked pretty cool. The food, however, was lacking flavor, and I'm pretty sure they watered down their draft beers (my BFF thought so as well). I will not be going back.
That’s really disappointing. The old On Tap in Lakeview and the one by the Galleria we’re nothing to write home about, but not terrible. This one, from the pictures I’ve seen, looked really cool and different from other local sports bars. Watered down drafts? Is that even possible?
Anyone use standard air before? AC unit is not working and they have a tech on the way. Had good reviews but wanted to double check
I am not sure if a draft beer can be watered down -- but if it can, then I suspect these were watered down. The IPAs and pale ales I ordered tasted like Bud Light. The queso 100% had water in it, and to such an extent it rendered it pretty much flavorless. Other people in my group said the same about their food. It was honestly pretty surprising for a new place
Probably the worst sports bar I have been to is Sky Castle. The service was really bad the food was worse. I'm still pissed at myself that we went there instead of Babalu that one Friday night two years ago.
I went to the Lakeview On Tap a few years ago. It looked like the inside needed pressure washing or at least a really good cleaning. I got a burger that was good to decent. Half of the beers on their menu were unavailable though.
I use Standard. I don’t really have anything to compare them to, but I haven’t had any issue with them. They handle my HVAC and generator maintenance. Usually get out pretty quick when I call them for anything.
I went fully expecting it to be way too family oriented for a sports bar due to the location. My fears were confirmed. If I’m going to a sports bar, it’s to get away from my family, not to be around everybody else’s. Also, I did feel like my standard order of wings with Magic sauce was sub-par by other On-Tap standards.
