Holland probably believes Poolparty's value is so low now that there's no reason to trade him unless you're getting disproportionate value back. Just let him go play in Finland, hope he kills it, and in a year or two he can trade him for something. If he doesn't pan out, oh well.
They are losing money, that deal they got for broadcasting a lot of games is killing them. They overpaid
I wish the NHL allowed this. I remember playing some Canadian teams with really small rinks. Those farm boys would just dump and murder. Adding another layer to team building would be nice but I know it’ll never happen.
Western teams were fucking ruthless. Dump and fucking go full speed to kill the d. All they did was something like this, they would just shoot at the net and crash like their life depended on it.
Playing goal I hated it because the length from behind the net to the end boards was significantly smaller. Totally fucked my head up.
Exact opposite for me, on the big ice I felt lost behind that net with so much sheet around me. Put me in panic mode.
Wifey’s cousin caught on with Sudbury in the O this year ( see if he sticks ). Asked him because he played in the Q last year, he has an interesting perspective on Lafreniere and now Byfield. He said tough call on who is better...Laf more skilled and dynamic but he loves Byfield and his combo of skill, size and speed.
Said that a few weeks ago, byfield will be intriguing to a lot of teams. Huge kid with great hands. It will be a close race.
Heard from a scout who covers junior...he said at this point Laf is way ahead of the class. But Byfield has the ability to close the gap significantly.
Lafreniere being almost a year older won’t help either. Scouts tend to poke holes into a players’ game the more they see him. I bet he still goes first but he can’t have a disappointing season. The world juniors might really make a difference for these guys this year. Byfield is not there yet but his ceiling is pretty high. He has a ton of potential
Ya good point. I remember when Tavares was ripping it up as at16/17 but his draft year the pundits started talking about the things he couldn’t do. Lot of negative talk. Going back Logan Couture was supposed to go #1 in the OHL draft that year but JT was given exceptional status. Couture and family were super pissed and claimed whoever drafted him was wasting their pick as they intended to go NCAA. 67’s took him about 10th OA and then coach Kilrea spent a summer begging him to come to Ottawa.
Im shocked you missed the news that RFA and Stanley Cup Champion, Ivan Barbashev signed yesterday. 2 years 1.4 AAV What. A. Steal!
Some are saying it's an overpayment, but I really don't think so. Getting him for 8 years in today's RFA market is a huge win for the Coyotes. Plus he shot 7% last year with a 7.8% OIS. Bounceback year to his 65 point rookie year should be expected.
This bums me out because I really enjoy everyone laughing/making fun of his creepiness during the games
Don't know how many of you coach, but its crazy how hard USA hockey is working to take body checking out of hockey. I'm not an old school guy but they are honestly trying to make it like the womens game (and I don't say that to disparage womens hockey)
