They indicated the biggest challenge is consistent revenue. They have spikes in revenue like most and then it falls off (Q2 and Q3 the biggest months). But the technology isn't inexpensive and guessing the equipment they do sell at pretty much cost.
i know nothing about the industry but their financials seem decent for a startup. already generating profit before opex and you have to think their >$300mm of marketing costs will come down shortly. also 95% retention rate is incredible.
Expanding the two locations and maybe investing big in materials/inventory upfront? The tread is still early. I don't know the details but I could see some fairly easy big buckets. They've also expanded their offering to try to be the most robust digital fitness provider out there (cycling, running, strength, yoga, meditation, and whatever else) and I imagine that gamble of going big early would have a heavy cost.
Ride 600 tonight. PR'ed at 45 min by 16 over last PR and broke some metrics milestones that seemed to take forever to achieve. "Bad" news is they found me an earlier slot for radiation to start, and they begin therapeutically poisoning me on Thurs next week. Sinking feeling this could be last PR for 8-12 months unless radiation gives me some relevant new superpower like being impervious to lactic acid buildup. I will keep riding, but persistent fatigue that builds over the next 6-8 months is the main side effect along with wonky blood cell counts. "Good" news is treatment will be over sooner. IPO prospectus better mention an L.A. studio and/or rowing!
Their profits doubled but so did their losses. Saw they have over 600K subs with a <1% monthly cancel rate.
I guess as a Peloton guy I get targeted with ads for Mirror constantly and I seriously dont understand it's appeal. It feels more like a really cool technology demo you'd see at CES but doesn't really have a market. Unless I'm missing it.
Did Jess King's 30 minute extended sweat yesterday. I enjoyed the class for two reasons. First, I usually do HIIT so this was a nice change up. Second, her outfit is... motivating.
With the expanded Peloton digital collection there really isn't a market unless you like a built in TV to see the workouts. And for that you can just install a TV and stream it over the monitor. Only one that makes sense is the Tonal as that isn't really a market where Peloton has gone yet (intense strength classes) and even the boxing one but that seems unsustainable.
From what people said she wasn't really interested in going elsewhere right? I think indirectly she is competing with them as she has her 'Jacobs Method' or whatever it is which is a workout routine in the form of a newsletter. It would be like Emma leaving and just concentrating on her blog.
I can’t ride her rides without almost dying but I transferred to team Olivia from team Emma as fav lady rider
And you’re gone. Sorry had to thread ban him. Wasn’t a decision we as management came to lightly but it had to be done.
And speaking of this the supposedly they are closing on a deal for $50M this month. A few articles out the past couple of days that Mirror is that company. Also the Peloton podcast that seems to have insight indicated a rowing machine is in development is the next product.
I'm officially radioactive according the WWII vintage geiger counter at my Oncologist's office. Don't feel that bad - could probably handle 30 min - but I'm may be riding the high that is more rowing machine rumors. Fatigue - some, not too bad, yet Nausea - none Boredom from being in isolation due to radioactivity - off the charts bored
My wife and I decided this would be a great way to work out at home. We got it friday so I spent the weekend kind of learning the layout and some shorter rides. Does anyone have any very beginner advice? I've tried 3 classes so far, in this order: 15 Minute Low Impact Ride 20 Minute Power Zone Max Ride 20 Minute HIIT ride I'm right in the middle on the leader board for all of those classes. Ideally I need a cushion on the seat because it hurt my tailbone a little bit.
Best advice I can give you is to just keep getting on the bike. Riding 15 minutes is better than riding 0 minutes. It can be daunting and physically and mentally grueling—and that doesn’t necessarily ever stop, but you’ll start to appreciate the suck. Regarding the seat, don’t waste your money on a seat cushion. You’ll get used to it in a few weeks. Welcome to the fam.
I have a seat cushion and cushioned cycling pants. Inside of my thighs and nutsack still hate me after every ride. Gold Bond restoration cream is my recommendation.
I did spin classes in a studio for about 18 months before I got my Peloton. The seat was harder than I was used to, but it stopped bothering me after a week or two. I sometimes get a little sore at the beginning of rides but coming out of the saddle usually fixes it. Maybe you just have enormous nuts?
Try moving the seat forward. You may not be sitting on the widest part if it is still set to the default "f" position.
How would moving the seat forward change where he’s sitting on the seat though? Just literally move back on the widest part.
It's on the right settings, maybe i'm just not used to it. I wanted to see if getting a cushioned seat was kind of a "must have" for this thing. It's not that big of an issue regardless, i'll just work through it.
Got one Friday. Three rides in. Averaging around 200 watts (199). Goal is to get to 300 in the next 6 months.
Yeah, I was assuming he meant a longer ride. I think 300+ isn’t feasible for that length, particularly for someone with little to no cycling experience. Unless he’s one of the people on the Peloton Facebook page with juiced bikes who post 1,000+ outputs for 45 minute rides.
Oh I agree. But if you out of the saddle hard for 15 minutes you could hit 300. Wouldn't recommend it but in 6 months he could built up the strength to do that on a short ride.
Just going back to this now that Ive been back at home. My bike absolutely feels "harder" than the one in studio. I did a 30 minute ride last night and thought I gave a pretty good effort but didn't come close to the studio output. At the end of the day I don't really care about the leaderboard - I just find it curious how it all works. The 'well-ridden' theory I think makes a lot of sense.
I've got about 500 miles on my road bike and I run about 40 miles a week, so my cardio is pretty good. Just looking to cross train a little more, especially through the winter.
First ride back was a typical overexertion for me b/c I'm dumb as a rock. Output was down quite a bit and radioactive sweat made my skin itchy. Felt great to be able to ride again though.
I just wish someone would do some 60 or 90 minute climb rides. The JJ ones that I used to do all got zapped by the lawsuit.
Agree. I was doing 60 min power zone endurance rides at a higher output level last month, and not getting all that close to my PR. Wondered how I had set that unattainable PR so I checked - it was a Jacobs climb ride.
Yeah seems like Robin is alluding to these two being the west coast options and likely these two are doing later live rides. Still seems 4:30 PST is pretty early still.
It looks like both of these girls are manning the late shifts someday (930pm ET) live rides. thats big if that holds up
