Agree to disagree but I’ve never put as much stock in Maynard’s vocals as the band’s overall sound. That’s not to say I don’t really enjoy his voice as part of their sound...he just doesn’t make the band, to me. Anyway, I really like Invincible.
I agree but the pitch is the exact same as weak and powerless and follows it pretty closely. as far as the chorus goes
Current order of faves: 1. 7empest 2. Invincible 3. Pneuma 4. Culling Voices 5. Descending 6. Fear Inoculum
Yeah you'd think it'd be up my alley with how much I enjoy 10,000 Days My biggest problem after two listens is I simply lose interest during the builds, so when they reach the big moments they've been growing to they just feel like passages in a vacuum because I haven't built up that anticipation along the journey. Also it feels like the general energy is the same from song to song until you get to the opening moments of 7empest. By the third time I listen to an album I almost always know how I feel about it, so we'll see I guess.
electronic how badass is Adam’s lead guitar tone throughout this album. He keeps it poised on the edge of a note and squeal with all those overtones at any moment. So intense
The pinch harmonics, sustain, and the volume swells are so awesome. His "chugging" tone gives me goosebumps. Fucking incredible. There's magic in those 70s/80s silverbursts.
I think I read that Danny Carey said they wanted the album to be one song with the interludes treated as bridges between the song sections. After two listens, I feel like that goal was accomplished and the first 60 minutes is one long, meandering song. I don’t dislike the execution, it’s just not my favorite.
Going in on my first listen. Typically they play the current album when they go on an album tour with very little to no deviation. I would say the chances you will hear it are 98%.
I just went to Reddit looking for "clues" to the new album and I found some funny memes but no crazy conspiracy theories or anything. Anybody discovered anything cool? Someone told me the Fibonacci sequence was involved in some way?
FI has grown on me a lot. It’s almost like a concept album where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. /tweet
How much do yall think tix are gonna be for this fall's shows, ballpark? Friend is looking at getting them when they go on sale Friday. Asked me what I'd pay and I said hopefully they'd be under $100. He's telling me I need to be prepared to pay $180. Is it really that much?
What do you mean extras? I think they included an extra sticker, but I don't think there's anything else.
They haven't played this large of venues (near me) for at least 20 years. That said I am sure the floor will be well over $100. Upper level should be more affordable.
$70-$90 for upper arena, $100-$150 for lower, $150+ for floor. That's before fees and taxes so figure on about $3000 each
Some people shared photos with extra scribbles or small doodles (similar to the eye) on the inside. As well as stickers and buttons and shit.
After a third listen last night I'm not ready to say it's completely grown on me, but I will say that I definitely saw Pneuma in a new light, and throughout the day I've had Maynard stuck in my head admonishing me not to point that at him, which is making me want to come back for another go. Could be the rare extra slow burner here, we'll just have to see.
Yeah it's a shame because Carey obviously kills it here, but what generally excites me about drumming is when it accentuates interesting accompanying music, and while bits and pieces of this album have grown on me, I still find large amounts of it to be pretty bland. Gave it another listen last night I'm pretty sure I know how I feel about this thing. 7empest and Culling Voices are the two songs I genuinely enjoy. Everything else has moments where I'm getting sucked in, but lose me with what I feel are extremely dry and drawn out passages, and they don't build to the kind of crescendos that make the track length worth it. The end of Pneuma is probably the closest thing to what I'd hope to hear there, and in a vacuum it's a cool moment, but again it doesn't have the wanted effect on me because I haven't stayed along for the ride. Still I'm glad to see this thing's received the kind of reception it has, just isn't for me I suppose.
People are being too quick to judge IMO. You've gotta listen to this kind of thing over and over and let it grow on you. I think it helps if you do meditation and get into that whole aspect of Tool's message. It's not something that's supposed to reveal itself immediately; you need to cultivate mindful consciousness
From another board Im a season ticket holder for the Hurricanes so had the option to buy yesterday. They had 3 options, a suite at $200/ticket and holds 12-24, 'Captains Club' at $150 per ticket but first 5 rows of sec 103-105 and then 'Ledge Lounge' for $100 where its the first 2 rows in 227 lookng straight on. So I would guess $100 for uppers with some of the last rows a bit cheaper.
