    He's Deteriorating in Plain Sight"
That is a direct quote from a Republican strategist as reported two hours ago by Business Insider:

"He's deteriorating in plain sight," one Republican strategist who's in frequent contact with the White House told Insider on Friday.

Some of the new concern is related to Trump’s continuing insistence on saying he was right that Dorian could hit Alabama, which several diaries here are currently discussing.

But what people are telling Business Insider reveals the degree to which those who are seeing him up close are concerned he is totally cracking up:

Asked why the president was obsessed with Alabama instead of the states that would actually be affected by the storm, the strategist said, "you should ask a psychiatrist about that; I'm not sure I'm qualified to comment."

One person who was close to Trump's legal team during the Russia investigation told Insider his public statements were "nothing compared to what he's like behind closed doors.”

"He's like a bull seeing red," this person added. "There's just no getting through to him, and you can kiss your plans for the day goodbye because you're basically stuck looking after a 4-year-old now."

"No one knows what to expect from him anymore," one former White House official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal conversations about the president, told Insider. "His mood changes from one minute to the next based on some headline or tweet, and the next thing you know his entire schedule gets tossed out the window because he's losing his s---."

Here’s a bit from Susan Glasser’s story in the New Yorker on Sept. 3rd:

I counted more than forty tweets mentioning China last month. They veered wildly, almost day to day and hour to hour, on whether a deal or a whole new round of tariffs was imminent.

He cancels a trip to Denmark because they won’t sell him Greenland. He cancels a trip to Poland (whom he then congratulates for getting invaded by the Nazis 80 years ago) saying he has to monitor Hurricane Dorian, then goes golfing for much of the weekend. When he did travel abroad, to the G7 in Biarritz, he made so many outlandish claims that even those leaders who thought they had figured out how to put up with him were reduced to stunned silence.

I think Trump is a crazy narcissist -- stand by it

and I don't like his politics -- stand by it.

But I do believe he, more than any candidate in this cycle outside of Rand Paul and Bernie Sanders, will or will make every reasonable effort to hold true to his campaign platform. So in that limited sense, I have some trust in him (or as much trust as you can have in an ego maniac who has never been told "no" in his life). With benefit of hindsight, bad opinion

I think he is a safer bet than Cruz and Hillary in terms of keeping us out of wars and scaling back US imperialistic foreign policy. -- stand by it

However, I think his economic policies, particularly his restrictions on trade, would be disastrous. -- stand by it

Not on the same level as Bernie, but a disaster nonetheless - stand by it

If I had to vote between the two, I would vote for him over Hillary to avoid what an unprecedented imbalance on the SCOTUS, which would have irreparable consequences. -- stand by it

I'm sure I have some very embarrassing posts from my small l libertarian phase (which was just a move away from being R and ultimately to D) but, like, after actually living some real shit it's pretty obvious that anarcho capitalism is insane fantasy that won't ever happen and even moving towards it just shits on those most vulnerable and historically oppressed groups. Not great Bob.

I think it's as ideological as any semi-mainstream political bent in American politics. I don't think most are heartless shitbirds. I think it's real (albeit misguided) Faith in the free market.

I think it's mostly comparable to a religion. The absence of evidence is irrelevant when you throw faith into the mix. The important thing is that they believe in it.

And I'm not even anti free market to a certain extent. I just don't understand how you can look at history, especially with respect to the environment and how far behind historically oppressed groups find themselves through no fault of their own, and not question the role of government regulation beyond the court system and the right to contract.

For discussion purposes we should just consider the free market to be a mythological and all powerful deity capable of righting all wrongs if we just believe in it hard enough. That's basically how libertarians operate.

I just want 5 out of 4, "liberal" or "conservative," who believe the text the of the Constitution is paramount. Only 2/9 seem to follow that fundamental idea. I never understood why that is so controversial.
