I asked after the test each class period. “What were y’all comfortable with and not comfortable with?” “Do you feel like I covered the material that was on the test?” Most common response “You covered the material, we just didn’t study”. I spent the first 3 weeks of school covering the enlightenment period. From the philosophers, despots to Great Britain and the American Revolution.
This is my first year helping with the football team (I’m also the head baseball coach), and we won our season openers last night. Damn, it’s awesome to go through all that summer work with them and see it pay off.
If it makes you feel any better, the room has never gotten down to 60. That’s just what I keep the thermostat at. Spoiler ive never gotten it below 65.
Move to Jersey. Brand new building, unbelievably long hours and school year. Now hiring for Engineering, AP US History, and SPED.
Stayed up at my cabin for two months with the pup chopping trees, swimming, drinking and trout fishing This is depressing, plus I have to live with the knowledge of the eventual supposedly cold ass snowy shit winter coming up next
On the plus side, none of us are done scheduling out caseloads yet, which lets me put it off one more week
While I’m not excited to teach necessarily I am excited to see some of the kids. I saw some during open house and it got me a little more ready
We used to have old school thermostats we could control. For some reason, mine allowed you to set it to 40. Well, one day the system broke and the heat was stuck on. It was sweltering. I just cranked the dial as far down temperature wise as possible to see if ANYTHING would happen. Well, after school they fixed the problem, but my thermostat was set to 40 still. It was 40 fucking degrees when I walked back into class the next day.
That’s the best part of the first week. I have (what I feel is) the best job being the only business teacher in the school. It means that I only teach 1/4 of the students but I get to teach them all 4 years.
3 weeks down, so far so good. The school I’m at is a new school in a very wealthy area, so it’s pretty easy. I am jealous of the high school teachers in here, by far my favorite age group to teach.
Already hearing whispers through the hall that the sixth graders hate my class “because we do too much work”. Well-begun is half-done, friends.
Question: Is the statement: "Students in Local School A earned more than 93 million in scholarships last year, which is more than either Local School B or Local School C earned" A) Mostly a brag B) Mostly a dig C) 50/50 D) 100% a brag E) 100% a dig
I’ll go with C, assuming that the other two schools were named. Question, was it “More than either B or C“ or was it “more than B and C combined “?
Jesus....grading papers about The Artist. Instead of writing "talkies" to describe the earliest films with dialogue, girl wrote 5 TIMES:
Our kids did their first prose analysis of the year on the early chapters of Hatchet, and about 10-12 of them misspelled Hatchet. It was an open-book, open-note essay.
Playing a movie trivia game today and the student read a question to me: Student: “What US city is setting for the film, I can’t really pronounce this, Byoo-let?” Me: Say that title again Student: “Byoo-let” Me: Spell it. Student: “B-U-L-L-I-T-T” Me:
That feeling of relief when someone fails the absolute shit out of something and then you look up if they have an IEP or 504 plan....then you see they’re just plain old dumb.
Me: Anyone drop a house key on a chain? Class: Giggles Me: why the fuck is that funny to all of you? Class: more giggles Also update on our AC Unit: We need a new motor, looks like we’ll be suffering for a long, long time
Mistakenly referred to the water hose we were moving as just 'the hose' and two freshmen busted out laughing uncontrollably.
My principal kicked out my sub because the kids were out of control and the sub was sitting and reading a book. I had asked principals to check in bc the guy seemed flakey.
We got our accountability scores and grades. Our district moved a letter grade but the school remained the same. I’m disappointed
Kid emailed me this morning (Wednesday). He said he's sorry about missing class yesterday and he'll try to be there tomorrow. Class is a MWF...
I know the feeling. Last year my school fared pretty well on our MAP assessments but state college and career readiness weren't great
We got our average ACT score up to 25.9. As much as I LOATHE 20 minutes of ACT prep work in every class during 4th period each day, it has had a big impact.
Much better. My classes are much better behaved and I’m assuming it’s because I’m doing something different.
Just want to thank you guys for being teachers. My kid is in preschool and aftercare all day, essentially 8am-4:30 because me and my wife both work. The teachers at his school are amazing and you can tell they love the kids. My wife is a special ed case manager at a high school in NJ and deals with so many families who just don't appreciate what the teachers are doing for their kids. It seems a lot of them have this attitude of "its us vs the school" so instead of letting the school make recommendations, they come in and just try to tell them what their kid needs.
