If you have facts about a violation, send it to [email protected]. If not, please do not slander these young men and their families.
in fairness, not educating these young evangelicals probably learns these people more facts than the stuff they would otherwise learn at liberty
He's actually allegedly getting the FBI to investigate emails that were leaked to Politico because he claims they are LU's property.
Jerry Falwell Jr. settles Miami court case over South Beach ‘pool boy’ venture By Douglas Hanks October 07, 2019 11:28 AM, Updated October 07, 2019 06:54 PM Court documents detail how evangelist Jerry Falwell Jr. wound up in the South Beach hotel business with a former Fontainebleau Hotel pool attendant. By Marta Oliver Craviotto Jerry Falwell Jr. has settled the Miami court case that laid out many of the details behind the South Beach real estate venture his family launched in 2013 with a former Fontainebleau pool attendant the evangelical leader and his wife met while on vacation. In a federal court filing, Falwell and the young lawyer who sued him, Gordon Bello, said they have settled the case for an undisclosed “monetary sum” that Falwell, the president of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, will pay Bello, a legislative aide for the Miami-Dade County Commission. Spoiler Bello sued in 2017, claiming he was promised a stake in the South Beach hostel that a Falwell family entity purchased in 2013 for $4.7 million. Bello, 28, claims he and his father, Miami builder Jett Bello, pitched Falwell on the hostel idea after being introduced by Giancarlo Granda, a high school friend of the younger Bello’s. Granda had met Jerry and Rebecca Falwell while they were vacationing at the Fontainebleau and he was working as what the Bello lawsuit later described dismissively as a “pool boy.” Gordon Bello, a legislative director at the Miami-Dade County Commission, is the plaintiff in a suit against Liberty University president Jerry Falwell Jr., over what Bello claims is a promised share in a South Beach hostel purchased by the Falwell family in 2013. He was photographed on Monday, Oct. 7, 2019, at a county housing summit in downtown MIami. BY DOUGLAS HANKS [email protected] Granda befriended the Falwells, flew with them on corporate jets and, in 2012, traveled to Liberty to meet a famous keynote speaker there: future president Donald Trump. Granda was granted a 25 percent share in the South Beach venture about a year later, and Bello’s suit claimed he was promised a similar share. He sued to be compensated on the alleged agreement, which he never documented in court papers and which Falwell denied ever existed. Bello said in court papers that he first met Rebecca Falwell through Granda, and formed a “personal relationship” with her before he met Jerry Falwell in the lobby of the Loews Miami Beach for the alleged pitch meeting in 2012. In court papers, Falwell denied promising Bello anything, and his lawyers noted the plaintiff never filed any emails, texts or documents suggesting a deal existed. The case became a side plot to the national saga of Falwell and his business venture with Granda, not to mention the other odd twists, such as an ex-Trump lawyer claiming he had once intervened to track down compromising photos of the Falwells. There were unexplained developments in the Bello litigation, too. He was previously known as Jesus Fernandez Jr., and his father as Jesus Fernandez Sr. Both changed their names to Bello in the summer of 2016, saying they did so under pressure. The younger Bello said in court papers the change was “due to a matter directly related to the subject matter of this lawsuit.” The elder Bello told the Miami Herald the change was due to “major concerns” and those concerns were “based on threats.” Giancarlo Granda and Jerry Falwell Jr. in an undated photo at Cheeca Lodge in Islamorada. Granda, who met Falwell while working as a pool attendant at the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach, became a partner in a South Beach hostel a Falwell family entity purchased in 2013. In a statement Monday, Falwell lawyer Joshua Spector said the settlement still requires court action and declined to comment. “At this juncture, there remains judicial labor to be undertaken in the case and therefore I abide by my policy to refrain from discussing pending litigation,” said Spector, a Miami lawyer. Bello declined to comment, and his lawyer, Michael Addicott, did not respond to a request for comment. Liberty needs to be shut down. It’s a factory for deplorables and the Falwell‘s are abject pieces of shit.
With each new story that breaks about the Falwells, it's impossible for me to decide whether they are more evil than they are stupid or vice versa.
My buddy's wife went to Liberty. Took a peek at one of her creationist textbooks once. Shit was wild.
I’ve known a lot of Liberty students since I’ve spent the majority of my life in Lynchburg. Most have been pretty nice people. Most being devout Christians is a bit annoying but you get used to that when you live here as long as I have. You just kind of shrug it off as normal unless they get overly preachy about it around you. Many of them haven’t been anything more than Christians in name, but a lot of people from around here look at it as an easy school to get into and a cheap one at that. So it’s a good alternative from a financial-only standpoint if they can’t get into the state schools or can’t afford the private schools/out of state. Then add in the cost savings of commuting. Especially cheap if going the online route, tuition for full-time undergrad is well under $8,000 a semester. Even tuition for on-campus classes is pretty competitive with several of the state schools, online tuition is competitive with every state school. The older alumni, mostly Generation X and late Boomers, along with the administration are a cesspool though. Especially Jerry Jr. That guy is a complete piece of shit.
Liberty should not be an accredited university. I hope that the next POTUS, yanks the shit with the quickness mainly because I want bad things to happen to Evangelicals and their degrees to become worthless.
Any school that voluntarily hires fucking Turner Gill after his tenure at KU is clearly run by morons and should be shut down for the good of humanity
Thought it was rich that LU went after the NYT folks for trespassing after reporting on COVID + students on campus. As it was later printed, it seems like they could have made a case for libel, IF THE STORY HADN'T BEEN TRUE. It's such a racket and Jerry Falwell is just the worst imaginable human being.
Eh they're just kids who likely grew up indoctrinated into this quasi-fascist system It's not their fault they never got to listen to Master of Puppets
Technically it’s Jerry Falwell Jr. in charge, and he is infinitely worse than his father. Jr. is a fraud in every sense of the word.
His dad was a prosperity gospel grifter piece of shit, the same as junior. Where do you think junior learned it
Apartheid[edit] In the 1980s Falwell said sanctions against the apartheid regime of South Africa would result in what, he felt, would be a worse situation, such as a Soviet-backed revolution. He also urged his followers to buy up gold Krugerrands and push U.S. "reinvestment" in South Africa.[49] In 1985 he drew the ire of many when he called Nobel Peace Prize winner and Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu a phony "as far as representing the black people of South Africa".[50][51][52][53][54]
He learned it from his dad and has made it even more grandiose and been even more brazen with it. If you don’t want to believe, live in ignorance then, fine by me. I’ve only lived in or near here for over 34 years.
I meant Jr., but it applies to both. Multi-generational POS family. (Strangely, the other brother, Johnathan, either isn't such a toolbag, or hides it better.)
