I'm annoyed that the Tigers don't promote their better young players and throw them in the mix over veterans we know are shitty. Kind of annoyed the Wings are doing the exact same thing, even if those guys might not be quite ready for full time work. Those 2 year deals we signed this summer still make zero sense to me.
Whoops. Knew I forgot one. GR for sure. Kaski probably is first in the pecking order for a call up followed by Cholowski and then Seider.
At what point should I give up on Cholowski being anything more than another Brandon Smith? If he's going to be more than that, wouldn't they be finding a way to make sure he's playing on the roster right now? I get that he's been a pro for 3 years, but the log jam of defensive players in Detroit right now is stocked with guys who have no future here.
He was always a project but he’s better than Smith. Smith has no hockey IQ. Cholowski does, he just needs to get much bigger. A lot of his issues defensively last season came when he was just overpowered.
The two year deals were fine if we actually have the balls to bury guys in GR. The Fil deal was the most egregious one but sadly we don’t have any center depth right now. He is a good fill in until Veleno is ready. Worst case is he shifts to a third line wing role in 2020, but he wouldn’t be any worse than our other depth guys. Nemeth actually plays defense. We don’t have many D like that. He will help shelter Hronek.
No, Stevie Y is gonna sit behond the bench with a C sewn into his suit jacket and walk out onto the ice in said situations.
Always ceases to amaze when people who get paid millions of dollars fail to see the simplest of things.
I understand that the Wings have had 3 captains over the last 33 years, so they maybe put more thought into the lineage than some teams, but it's not the same as electing a pope. The world won't end if Larkin ends up more Danny Gare than Hank Zetterberg.
Preseason starts tomorrow but Seider is expected to play Wednesday in Chicago since Kane and Toews are expected to dress for that game. I’m excited to see him against pros.
Also, Yzerman says he wants to see Rasmussen at C, so we should get to see him play there in GR. Veleno and Ras should be the top two centers for them this season.
It would be nice if Givani Smith could have a Bert like impact for GR this year. I would love to see him do the dirty work for Veleno and Zadina.
Ras, Hirose and Svech looked dangerous at times. I would definitely put Ras and Svech together in GR.
Watched the game last night, a few thoughts: - Seider is so smooth. His hockey IQ is off the chart. He just knows how to anticipate the play. He played more than anyone but Green last night. I am thinking he sees time in Detroit this season, probably in March. - Veleno flashed. He wasn’t consistent but his speed is obvious. He is going to make a case to make the team out of camp but I think it’s more likely he is the first C called up. - Zadina played more than anyone. He wasn’t efficient with the puck but you can see the skill. He needs to anticipate better and not press so much. - Smith looks ready to take a step for GR. May never be more than a decent third line wing in Detroit but his physicality is nice. There is a role for him in Detroit down the road. - Hirose needs to play with AA. His hockey sense is great and he is such a good passer. I don’t think he’s going to be a 60 point guy but he has 40-50 point potential.
Will this be the year they actually take the bold move and waive/demote/trade him to play other Dmen?
