Hard rain means BW is probably the best option. He is a strong runner and is going to be in better shape then Mack. And Mack does fumble a bit
NHC saying the disturbance in the Caribbean could become a depression or tropical storm as early as later today, initial position and how fast it is moving will be important. Would Stanford arrive today or tomorrow? Hoping they would consider moving it to a noon start before they look at cancelling it.
Was looking up the Marshall Tropical Storm game and we were coming off a 2 game losing streak and our QB/RB starting combo was Godfrey and Brynn Harvey over Bortles and Murray. And we gave that guy a statue.
I raged in the Stadium all game over that decision. Murray scored a TD and never played again. Fuck GOL
Spoiler Staples: The Hawaiian who is adding to UCF’s status as a quarterback paradise By Andy Staples 1h ago 2 ORLANDO, Fla. — UCF coach Josh Heupel learned to expect the Friday night sales pitches. During dinners at the team hotel the night before a game, when players and coaches tend to be at their most relaxed, Knights quarterback McKenzie Milton would update Heupel on the exploits of the player who replaced Milton at Mililani (Hawaii) High. “He’d be talking about DG,” Heupel says. At the time, Dillon Gabriel was committed to Army. Though the lefty had shattered Milton’s passing records, only Hawaii, Air Force and Army had offered scholarships. Given that Air Force and Army combined to throw only 266 passes last season, it’s safe to say Gabriel’s arm would have remained mostly dormant had he chosen a service academy. Among Milton’s dutiful reports to Heupel was one from last September. During a 35-0 win against Waianae, Milton relayed to his coach, Gabriel had passed Timmy Chang and Tua Tagovailoa on Hawaii’s all-time passing yardage list. Eventually, Heupel listened. He began recruiting Gabriel even though Knights coaches hadn’t seen him play in person. Typically, a college coach wants to get a look at a quarterback during one of the player’s spring practices or at a camp on the college campus. That wasn’t going to be a possibility with Gabriel, who planned to sign in December. “It was just a slower recruitment process,” Heupel says. “His traffic picked up after the first third of the season. We got in on him. Then a bunch of blueblood programs came in.” UCF coaches had their first in-person meeting with Gabriel on his official visit last November. A day after his visit, Gabriel decommitted from Army. In December, Gabriel took official visits to Georgia and USC. Had he chosen to sign with the Trojans, it might be Gabriel and not fellow freshman Kedon Slovis who took over for the injured JT Daniels. But while Slovis was making his first collegiate start against Stanford on Sept. 7, Gabriel was breaking down his first collegiate start, a 48-14 win at Florida Atlantic in which he completed seven of 19 passes for 245 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. With the Cardinal coming to Spectrum Stadium on Saturday, the question now is whether both quarterbacks USC wanted in the class of 2019 will wind up starting against Stanford. For now, only Heupel knows who he’ll choose from a group that includes Gabriel, Notre Dame graduate transfer Brandon Wimbush and Darriel Mack Jr., the player who led UCF to a win in last year’s American Athletic Conference title game. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. Heupel wasn’t supposed to have to choose between three quarterbacks who all have proven themselves capable at various points. Milton was supposed to shatter records as a senior and maybe go to New York at the end of the season as a Heisman Trophy finalist. But all that changed on Black Friday when Milton suffered a catastrophic knee injury in a win at South Florida. The initial concern was more about whether Milton would even walk again. He’s past that point, but he’s still a long way from ever playing football again. Milton has stayed around the team as he rehabs, turning into a mentor for the sudden abundance of quality quarterbacks on UCF’s roster. After Mack won the American title game against Memphis and started the Fiesta Bowl loss to LSU, the assumption was that the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Mack would replace Milton this season. But Mack broke his ankle in July, forcing the Knights to look elsewhere. Fortunately, Wimbush had decided to come to Orlando after graduating from Notre Dame. Wimbush began the 2018 season as the starter for the Fighting Irish, but he had been supplanted by Ian Book as Notre Dame rolled through a 12-0 regular season. He came to UCF knowing he wasn’t guaranteed a job, but he hoped he could contribute. He wound up starting the season opener against Florida A&M, throwing for 168 yards and two touchdowns in a 62-0 win. Heupel had raised eyebrows that week when he declared Gabriel would play early, and Gabriel did wind up playing in the first quarter. Wimbush didn’t play at all against FAU, and Heupel said it was because Wimbush wasn’t medically cleared to play. Wimbush should be cleared to play against Stanford, but guess who else has been cleared? It’s Mack, who could become UCF’s third starter this season. Heupel understands the oddity of the situation. In an era of college football when coaches pray to have just one quarterback on the roster who has proven himself in a game, UCF has three. “There’s a really good culture in the room,” Heupel says. “They like each other. They compete really hard, but they’re genuinely happy for the other guys. Not every room is like that.” After the FAU game, Gabriel told reporters that the offense will run fine with any of the QBs starting. “We’re in a unique situation at the QB position,” Gabriel said. “Every guy has the talent to play. It’s just who gets the nod.” So who will get the nod against Stanford? Will it be Wimbush, who is the best athlete but who had accuracy issues at Notre Dame? Will it be Mack, who has played in the offense the longest? Or will it be Gabriel, the 6-0, 186-pounder who occasionally uncorks throws that look like the ones made by a slightly taller, slightly heavier Hawaiian southpaw who plays in Tuscaloosa, Ala. “He acted like a senior,” UCF offensive tackle Jake Brown said of Gabriel’s first start. “Since he’s set foot on campus, you wouldn’t believe that kid is a freshman. You can tell he’s been in a leadership role his whole life.” But Brown was smart enough not to choose a favorite at quarterback. He wouldn’t mind forcing Stanford to prepare for three quarterbacks who could give the UCF offense three different personalities. Wimbush is a home run threat with his legs. Mack can deliver the ball to UCF’s veteran receivers and backs, but he also can bulldoze near the goal line. Meanwhile, Gabriel can sail deep balls into tight windows, forcing the defense to stretch out and leaving lanes for backs Adrian Killins and Greg McRae. “Teams can’t prepare for all of them,” Brown says. But Stanford will have to prepare for all three. Heupel isn’t revealing who will start or whether one, two or three QBs will play. “We’re going to keep finding out more every week,” says Heupel with the confidence of a man who knows he has a trio of QBs who can win games in an era where even one is precious.
Considering the QB wasteland we had for the last 20 years its pretty crazy how deep we are now. I mean Brett Hodges is probably one of the best 4-5 QBs of the last 20 years.
So worst case... We do share a bye week with Stanford But Stanford has a Thursday game after the bye week... doubt they wanna fly cross country on a short week
"Additionally, this agreement enables UCF to have the most unique student-athlete experience in the country as every year all of our student-athletes will have the opportunity to visit Walt Disney World Resort." So we're giving athletes a lazy river and they will get some free stays at Disney resorts? I like where our recruiting should be heading.
Our very young and green DL has lived in 2 shitty teams backfields. Probably better to ask after we play a decent team.
Yeah, they definitely aren't top 25 good so far this season. I haven't watched a minute of them this year, is King not playing well or is it something else?
I have an extra cabana posted for $110 right now, but I’m willing to part with it for cheaper if any of y’all want it
Missing my 1st UCF home game in over 10 years for my son's 1st soccer game on his new soccer team. Kills me.
