3 laughers, so all of this needs to be put in the proper context and taken with sample size disclaimers. Here are some interesting stats to me: Jake Fromm has attempted the second fewest passes of any starter in the conference. Swift leads the conference in YPC at 9.36. White is fourth at 7.42. Herrien is tenth at 5.76. We are the only team in the conference without a receiver with double digit receptions. Pickens is our leading receiver with 9 receptions for 162 yards (good for 15th in the conference). Blaylock has 7 catches for 160. Eli Wolf is next at 6 for 90. Blaylock is 2nd in the conference in yards per catch (22.86). Pickens is tenth (18.00). Mark Webb is our leading tackler. We are leading the conference in total offensive yards and rushing yards. We are 5th in passing yards. 3rd in points scored. We are 2nd in sacks. 2nd in yards per game (behind Missouri). 1st in rush defense. 3rd in passing. Average 286 rushing yards per game and 278 passing. On D, it’s 60.7 and 182.33. We’ve scored 13 tds on 17 red zone trips. Opponents have converted 29.8% of their third downs against us (2nd best in conference behind Missouri again). We’ve converted 48.1% of our third downs (6th in the conference). Tyler Simmons is third in the conference in average punt return.
The overreaction is I just don't want to have another 2 day debate about wearing black jerseys, which we do every year. Next we will be arguing about moving the Cocktail Party out of Jacksonville. Its SSDD.
Potentially concerning stat: Could easily be offset by the fact that Vandy threw the ball immediately and we didn’t even get the chance to rush the passer. Something to keep an eye on, though.
We’re 9th in the nation in sacks. That’s the biggest difference between this year and last. We already have half the sacks we had all of last season
This. You can tell the pressure on the quarterback is night and day from last year (even with the limited pressure we got on Vandy due to the quick passing).
Exactly. Just set a standard of wearing them for one conference night game per year so it won't be construed as fake juice.
I completely agree with this. My point was more of a tangential one because everybody bitches as soon as you mention the black jerseys. The stigma only gets worse every year we don't wear them.
I'm honestly surprised Kirby doesn't call for black jerseys/blackouts more often. It always creates a great atmosphere and you'd have to think that recruits would go crazy for a full blackout.
I like them, I just hate that every time we have a big home game, we waste a whole day talking about them. They become a distraction.
It doesn’t have to be a gimmick tho. It’s just a badass jersey that should be worn once a year for a night game imo. Make it a tradition and it can be against a shit team for all I care.
Problem is we never know when we are going to have night games. And usually, the night games are actually against the bigger opponents. Just leave them in the closet.
They should be our permanent home night jerseys. Every home game that kicks after 6 should be in black jerseys. That shit would be awesome.
Wear them yearly. They're beautiful. It doesn't matter if it's against a shitty team or the best team on our schedule. It's not a gimmick. It's badass. The Penn State whiteout is one of the coolest looking things in college football every year. Our blackout could be the same if we'd do it.
You're letting the ass raping of '08 factor way too much into this imo. Richt was never going to beat Bama in any jersey that game.
Has nothing to do with that game. We have worn them since then. I like them, I'm simply tired of our fan base wasting a week every single year worrying/discussing when to wear them. Its the same shit over and over and over again.
*claims to hate discussing black jerseys* *replies to seven different comments in a single page, kicking off a full day of black jersey discussion*
And what does it hurt? What our fanbase is talking about has exactly as much bearing on the outcome of a game as what the team wears. It's not a distraction.
In your perfect world, what would the fanbase spend their time discussing that would somehow be less wasteful?
Have very much enjoyed this thread being active today. Nice distraction while I'm slinging dope to back pain patients all day.
On a completely unrelated note, hahahahaha at Tech. They’re currently doing something I’ve never seen before, and we may never see again. Collins is putting their starting QB back to receive kickoffs. What the fuck?
