Game of Thrones prequel ‘Bloodmoon’ has started filming - here’s all you need to know GAME of Thrones fans can reportedly look forward to a "prequel" series in the near future. Luckily for viewers, plans for a “prequel”, have been announced, telling the story of the Children Of The Forest. According to The Sun, the working title of the series is “Bloodmoon”. Dating back five-thousand years before the current plotline, it plans to explore the life and times of the early inhabitants of Westeros. The newspaper claimed that filming of the prequel has already begun in Northern Ireland - the same shooting location as the original series. WRAPPING UP: Game of Thrones comes to an end this weekend (Pic: HBO) KILLED OFF: The Bells saw Cersei Lannister die beneath a pile of rubble (Pic: HBO) Actress Naomi Watts is reportedly lined up to play the lead in the brand new series, having risen to fame in major flicks such as King Kong and Mulholland Drive. Their source said: “Those working on the set in Belfast are referring to the series as Bloodmoon. “Producers have put together a stellar cast and it will be must-watch telly for anyone who loves Game Of Thrones.” Jane Goldman - wife to TV personality Jonathan Ross - is said to be writing the brand new script, with help from the Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin. LEADING LADY: Naomi Watts is going to star in the prequel The news should give fans of the fantasy series something to look forward to, as the hype builds for the highly-anticipated finale. Last week’s episode, The Bells, saw Daenerys become a “mad queen”, while Cersei and Jaime Lannister met their end in a fatal pile of rubble. The trailer for the finale - the 73rd episode of the hit show - gives little away, keeping its loyal fans on their toes as per usual. Watch Game of Thrones on Sky Atlantic at 9pm on Monday. 'Game of Thrones’ Prequel Series Starts Filming, But What's a Bloodmoon? By Andrew Whalen On 5/15/19 at 12:39 PM EDT Spoiler Filming has begun on the first Game of Thrones prequel series, set during the Long Night, when the White Walkers first swept down upon Westeros in the Age of Heroes, thousands of years before the War of the Five Kings depicted in the original HBO series. Game of Thrones fan site Watchers on the Wall reports the prequel is currently in production, shooting at Glenariff, a stunning valley in Northern Ireland, which has previously been used as a filming location for the Vale of Arryn, where Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and Peter “Littlefinger” Baelish (Aidan Gillen) first fled after the Purple Wedding. British tabloid The Sun also reports filming at a set in Belfast, Northern Ireland, which has long been a production hub for Game of Thrones. The Sun, citing an anonymous source, also claims to have heard an evocative working title for the series: Bloodmoon. Just as the 2009 Star Trek filmed under the title Corporate Headquarters and The Matrix sequels used the codename The Burly Man, it’s likely Bloodmoon isn’t the actual title of the Game of Thrones prequel series. Our money is still on Martin’s preferred title: The Long Night. But Bloodmoon might still have some importance to the series. Westeros isn’t on Earth—it may be a little larger, George R.R. Martin has speculated—but it does have a single moon, similar to ours. In the A Song of Ice and Fire books, the moon over Westeros goes through phases, like ours, and casts pale moonlight. In Qarth, where Daenerys visited the House of the Undying in Game of Thrones Season 2, many believe that there were once two moons, until the dragons hatched from the second of the planet’s satellites. But there’s nothing in ASOIAF lore about a bloodmoon. The official description of the prequel series from HBO doesn’t shed much light either: Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of Legend—it’s not the story we think we know. There have been other astrological omens important to Game of Thrones, particularly the red comet that appeared in the sky in Season 2. In A Song of Ice and Fire, there are also the wanderers, seven stars that correspond to the seven gods in the Faith of the Seven widely practiced in Westeros. One star, associated with the Thief, is red, similar to Mars. Related Stories ‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel Series Set During Dance of the Dragons War? ‘Game of Thrones’ Spinoff: What We Know So Far So while nothing we know about A Song of Ice and Fire stands out as particularly bloody and moon-y, there is certainly precedent for astronomical bodies playing a part in the politics of Westeros, particularly as omens to be read in different ways by different factions. Other hints about filming for the series are in short supply. Watchers on the Wall has a handful of leaked set photos from Paint Hall Studios in Belfast. They show pulleys and scaffolding lashed together from logs, plus a gnarly-looking cliff face. Whether it’s eventually called The Long Night or Bloodmoon, the Game of Thrones prequel series will star Naomi Watts as “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.” The pilot for the series, filming now, was written by showrunner Jane Goldman (Kingsman series, X-Men: First Class). No release date has been announced.
So do you think we’ll ever get prequel series involving the stories we want the most? - Aegon’s conquest - The Blackfyre Rebellion - The Dance of Dragons - The Long Night (I think this is confirmed) - Robert’s Rebellion Am I missing anything?
Excited about the long night. I hope they do Roberts rebellion. Good thing about Roberts rebellion is they don’t have to worry about cgi’d Dragons.
yeah, this is from the the story in the spoiler sterling a posted Our money is still on Martin’s preferred title: The Long Night. But Bloodmoon might still have some importance to the series.
There’s like 6 Blackfyre rebellions Give me Dunk and Egg even though they already ruled it out. Bobellion has also been ruled out
Of all of these, the Long Night/COF story is the one I least wanted. The Blackfyre Rebellion would have been awesome, and they wouldn't have to use tons of $$$ on CGI. Could make the story focused on the cloak/dagger politics and human struggles that made the first few books and S1-4 so good.
That would’ve been better if he was huge in GoT. I read somewhere that Robert’s Rebellion is unlikely because every single fan of the series knows exactly what happens. Though I suppose that can be said for most of these
I’m with you on all these but the first three would cost more in dragon CGI than the show they just did and my understanding is that was the biggest expense
pretty good breakdown here 2 minute mark Long Night "Age of Heroes" confirmed. 5,000 years before GOT
It would be cool if they made a Dunk and Egg series that actually shows what ended up happening at Summerhall
Who knows, but there are two others still in contention. To be honest, the way HBO works...who knows if Bloodmoon goes forward. they're willing to pay millions on a pilot and scrap it. I just think we're going to see 1 prequel and that's it. But HBO is looking to stay in the fantasy world with Amazon having LOTR, and other platforms on the hunt for great source material. Same with studios. I was pitching a script around, that could get made for an easy 5-10 million, but my friends at these major Prod Cos and studios tell me "we're looking for $100m tentpoles"
I'm interested in the Bloodmoon because I want to see how the COTF lost control of the white walkers. However, I want to know what caused the Doom
Meanwhile I'm waiting to hear back from a literary agent over a six book fantasy series that is already done.

What announcement are they referring to? I can't find any other source that mentions a 2020 release date.
