Yeah, pretty smart marketing to not include throngs of children in the marketing photos. Looks like a rich man’s sports room in the pictures. I’m disappointed in the poor reviews.
I’ll throw in a plug for Guin Services for HVAC maintenance/repairs. Great company to work with. Also do electrical and plumbing.
Thanks dudes. I went with Standard. Cedric was a super nice dude and I think I got a deal. Only $250 to replace the capacitor. He was from around Hattiesburg and randomly knew Billy Hamilton (OF for Braves). Talked fantasy football and whatnot.
Also on talk of Birmingham Sports Bars I'd like to reiterate how much it sucks orig PTs is no longer in existence.
I had no idea Sky Castle was a sports bar...so there's that. I went once to get someone a gift card. Meh.
I normally hover around the repair guy to try and learn things and I noticed that. Only issue with this one was that it was in the back of the housing and it took him awhile to get it disconnected.
Going to Ovenbird tonight for my wife's birthday. any menu recommendations? I have been before but don't remember what I got.
I know the guys taking over the space. Local (one of them is a Mnt. Brook alum) and good people, I’m excited for them and think they’ll do well. Didn’t get too much color on the concept but it will be farm fresh ingredients and southern fare. I’m pretty sure it will have a market component as well.
Bummer. Mafiozas was a solid place to spend $60 on a Sunday trying to kill a hangover with lasagna and wine.
On the note of closures, is everything apart from the tamale place dead on Cobb Lane now? Completely missed Blue Monkey shutting down. Used to remember south side being a regular staple of weekend plans. Can't remember the last time I was over there apart from a late night Marty's run.
I think that they just need to put a taco mama or otey’s location in place of every restaurant failure.
But seriously I am excited about all the growth this City is seeing but I'm afraid it's spreading at a rate the populus can't support. Need to bring in more jobs and focus less on all this fucking condo and apartment development (Revitalizing existing old buildings for lofts excluded from this sentiment, was speaking towards razing city blocks for new condo and apartment construction)
I think Freddie’s wine bar will close before too long...generally speaking, the bham populous is fatigued with small portions at a high price point. Restaurants like Rougaroux are thriving but whistling table is struggling right next door. We’re over due for a restaurant correction. I hope the Automatic can last but that’s a lot of seats to fill every night with 40 dollar entrees.
I think he’s referring to the part of “Mountain Brook village” that is “new”. They tore down like half of it and are halfway through rebuilding.
Did Ovenbird Saturday night with my wife and it was fantastic. Got the scallops, roasted bone marrow, and Gazpacho. It was better than I remembered. Then went to Paper Doll and ended at Mom's Basement. Could not imagine two more different bars but they were both fun. We go "out" once a quarter max so it was a lot of fun seeing some new places.
Bettola is so underrated anybody ever eat at the Grand Bohemian? we are meeting some friends there for dinner and drinks tonight.
Yeah I don't really have high expectations for the food.I had no idea we were even going but just got a text from the wife that said we are going to "Habitat Feed and Social" for dinner and she got a sitter. I had no idea where that was until I googled and it's the damn restaurant at the Grand Bo. I like the bar good enough and it's old friends so it should be a good time.
Mountain Brook Greenwise gonna be a regular Publix starting next year. Never thought I'd say this but thank goodness.
Because the Greenwise only has Greenwise products. No Coke, no nothing. And all the organic produce is Greenwise supplied. It's not coming from Owls Hollow Farm, it's coming from some place in California, Argentina, etc. It was a very very poor attempt to be Whole Foods.
I thought it completely missed the mark. I bought the worst steak ever from the butcher at Greenwise. The seafood wasn't fresh it was all previously frozen. Crestline Pig's seafood and butcher was 100x better for better priced. The main reason it missed its mark was that it is a speciality grocery store in a spot that people were used to being able to get their weekly groceries which include Cokes, Lay's and Paper Towels. The ancillary stuff they focused on wasn't ever going to drive the traffic it needed to survive in that location.
