If you do go to mid city, I love Angelo Brocato. Old school italian bakery and gelato. My brother turned me into it years ago just for the almond croissants but it's all excelent.

Anyone tried Sofia Nola yet? Considering it since it's close to where I'll be staying in October plus has ties to some really good Denver restaurants that I'm familiar with.

From Eater back in January: "The owner of bro-bar Barcadia has teamed up with Denver’s Culinary Creative Group to open Sofia, the first of three Italian restaurants expected to hit the Warehouse District in 2019.

Sofia is the Denver group’s first venture outside of Colorado, where it owns Señor Bear, Bar Dough, and the recently-opened Morin. Talia Diele is the restaurant’s head chef, most recently serving in the same role at the short-lived Wayward in Denver before relocating to New Orleans last year. The bar is led by a veteran of Cochon and the Catahoula Hotel, Hope Clarke."

Already booked: Cochon dinner Friday night. Atchafalaya brunch on Sunday. So looking for something Thursday night to lock in.

Current plan for gameday is hitting Domilise for a to-go order before heading to Baton Rouge.

yeah, it was a solid meh - it's right near where I stay so I'd go back if someone wanted to... but also I'm there almost every other weekend and I've only been once twice since it opened.

It's right behind Auction House market so usually when we want to just walk to something quick we go there instead. Which is also right next to Peche, right down the street from Flamingo a go-go, and a block and around the corner from Meril, a couple blocks to Desi Vega, etc... so it wasn't bad just so many other great options right there that we just never end up going there.

I'd listen to Doug. Haven't been to Sofia Nola, but Denver food scene is nothing compared to NOLA, so I'm not sure why you'd want to "stay close to home" when there are so many other options around.

Heard that. I work for a restaurant group in Colorado so I know going out of state can be difficult to match the same quality/level of success as your home turf. Appreciate the input all around.

In that case, you should definitely go try out some of the local places and take notes to take back to Denver. IMO, Denver food scene is very meh for a city of its size and the amount of hipsters it has, but it's been a few years since I've lived there, so maybe things have improved.

Might I suggest eating a gummy and going to Clancy's on Thursday night?

It certainly has some work to do. I lived in Atlanta previously and their food scene is miles ahead of Denver. It has come a long way though since I've moved here though.

I'm thinking to call the audible to Peche for Thursday but Clancy's looks real solid.

Can't go wrong with Peche, but FYI it's a Donald Link restaurant like Cochon.

I’ve always left Peche happy- just depends what kind of food you’re looking for- based on where you’re staying there are a ton of great restaurants in walking distance.

There is a new fancy Italian place right there on Magazine- (can’t remember the name) went once, was not impressed. May go back just because it’s so close but it wasn’t good that night.

How am I doing right now? Heavy lean to Stein’s for Thursday once I get in. Barrel Proof and Courtyard (if they haven’t moved yet) listed since they’re basically across the street from where we’ll be staying but late night I know I’ll be down for whatever.

I already feel like I’ve gained weight just reading that...

This is the positive reinforcement I was looking for.

Also just announced that the UF/LSU game will be a night game and kick off at 7 so that buys us the entire morning in New Orleans to hit another spot. So if there are additional brunch/breakfast spots where a reservation might be recommended then I may throw another on there since we can leave by midday and have plenty of time.

The Roosevelt is nice and located well to get to where you need.

I always stay there, The Montelone or Pontchartrain.

All are great, but if new to New Orleans I would stay at the first two. Ponthartrain is just away from burbon st. etc. however it’s got a great rooftop bar called the hot tin roof that has an incredible view of the city.

Was there last week and didn’t see this thread. Ate at Parkway and Trenasse. Both were very good and ate next to the Saints OLine at Trenasse. Kinda sucked since they ran out of food because they ordered like four entrees each.

Will be in New Orleans Oct 16th-20th for anniversary with my wife. I'll get a post together of our plans and y'all can let me know what you think.

We're staying at the Hyatt Centric French Quarter because of Hyatt points/free nights fwiw.

Anywhere between 20 and 85... on the same day. Good luck.

But really it's rare to get very cold quite that early, but it can get cold (40s) and it can be pretty warm (80s).... and it can make that switch pretty quick.

I am going to Auburn/LSU game in a couple weeks (without a car). It looks like there are a few bus/shuttle options from NO to BR (eg FlixBus). Does anyone have recommendations for transportation? Also, assuming a 2 pm kick off, thoughts on staying in BR that night at a mediocre overpriced hotel versus coming back the same day?

Great trip. Definitely miss the food in the south. Can’t get anything close to it out here in Colorado. Final tally of places we hit:

    Stein’s
    Courtyard Brewing
    Peche
    Barrel Proof
    Molly’s Rise and Dine
    District Donuts
    Avenue Pub
    Cochon
    Surrey’s Cafe
    The Green Fork
    Atchafalaya (pictured)
    Miel Brewing

Also did the WWII museum. What a production they have going on there. We all loved it but agreed you need at least two days to digest everything. After about 3-4 hours it was information overload and it was hard to take it all in anymore.
