Ok, I totally understand what you are saying.. I certainly wasn't intentionally trying to take a shot at Lib media... If I offended you in any way I sincerely apologize...
Spoiler It just fell apart for me at the end. I really hated Arthur’s woe is me speech on Murray’s show. That’s not Joker. Also, you don’t have to say how society made you. I just watched 2 fucking hours of it doing that. I get it. Joker is not someone people should flock to...and if they do, he’s gonna fucking kill them.
Box Office Week: Joker opens to #1 with a phenomenal $93.5M and $234M worldwide. That's the biggest October opening ever and the 4th biggest opening ever for an R-rated film. Two more interesting facts about Joker's opening: This is almost the same opening as Justice League ($93.8M) which cost more than 5x as much with a $300M budget This is now the biggest opening ever for a film featuring Robert De Niro. His previous biggest opening? Shark Tale ($47.6M).
I'm a little surprised that it's breaking records. I went to a 6:00 showing on Saturday night and there were maybe 25 people in the theater. A really dark and honest look at the very worst of mental illness. Spoiler Where did he get the gun from?? Seems simple enough that his co-worker gave it to him, like the movie shows, but then the guy denies it and says Arthur was asking him about buying a gun. Did I miss something, did they ever show how or where he got that gun? Or was the co-worker lying, and really did give him the gun?
I went last night at 7:45 it was basically sold out... Spoiler I think the magic of the movie is you don't truly know what interactions were legit. I would assume he was either given the gun like the movie played out or he stole the gun from the co-worker after he asked about purchasing it.
btw what is the general rule on spoilers? Monday or Tuesday after opening release is fine to do away with hiding convo behind them?
Yes Monday, October 12th 2020. I have 2 young kids, you're gonna have to give me a year to get around to watching this plz. TIA
The funniest part of this is referring to Marc Maron as a "Joker star." He had 2 minutes of screen time.
Yeah most the tweets talking about it state he has a cameo but the above one had the best transcription.
I don't know much about "woke" culture, and I admit I have been too lazy, and disinterested in researching it. My gut feeling is it's stereotypical type bullshit on certain classes of people, and that's not something I ever want to be a part of so I'll leave it alone.
Let me know when it's cool to post spoiler stuff, because I have a couple videos on uncut deleted scene versions of the film I know some of you will definitely enjoy.
As much as you dislike me, I don't think you can cast me in that light, even though I'm part of said fanbase, or region.. except for the Patriots obviously.
I will, but no way dude.. there are still people who haven't seen it who will flip their lid. I will wait until the title of the thread puts a disclaimer in the title.
Gross. I hear Maron stroking himself off from the other side of my iPhone. Comedy is/will be fine, but comedy has never been about making anyone feel bad. Such a ridiculous take. What people find humorous may change over time, but it has nothing to do with “punching down,” or “speaking truth to power,” or whatever other deconstructionist nonsense word of the day is currently en vogue on Twitter. If the audience is clutching their sides dying of laughter, it’s a funny bit regardless of the imaginary power dynamic between the make-believe participants in a made-up joke. Good lord.
Thanks! Most of the our canon authors were loaded to the gills on nicotine and amphetamines so I take that as a compliment. Personally I’m not a fan of uppers. You post like you’re angry at the entire world. Hope that works out for you.
Fair, but does that make me a racist? I I also understand that defending myself is the worst idea ever on this board, so I'll bow out of this bullshit now, and let everyone think what they want... carry on.
The main theatre in our area has been sold out almost every night since opening night for any decent seats - and that's with them having several screens showing it all day. I tried to go to a matinee and it was sold out this past weekend.
So “the movie is not good” because it’s called Joker? Spoiler Both of y’all are assuming Arthur becomes “The joker” which has been mentioned ITT may not even be the intention. And seems like drew and maybe you also are assuming that him being hoisted up as a hero in the riot actually happened and wasn’t another part of the movie he imagined in his head. Can’t really pin those faults on the movie since you created them with your own assumptions I loved it. I was angry and uncomfortable for at least 2/3 of the movie. Kind of reminded me of Requiem for a Dream but on mental illness instead of drug addiction.
Spoiler Yeah once I saw the theory that Arthur was an inspiration for THE Joker then it makes a lot more sense. The Joker would be a deeply cynical and burn it all to the ground type maniac from the beginning. He'd also have some leadership qualities that could allow him to actually devise and execute plans. I could see him pouncing on this movement and essentially stealing the Joker character from Arthur after watching the show. I just meant that if this was supposed to be the origin movie for the Joker we all know, then it doesn't make much sense given his character traits. Arthur is just a deranged loser who stumbled into everything that happened.
Spoiler I agree with that and was thinking prior to the talk show - okay how are they gonna go from this to a devious mob leader. So i'm glad this isn't like Joker 1 out of 3 and is gonna be a stand alone movie
