Yeah. Once I get my bonus I was planning to bring him in anyway. His joint issues in his bad leg might be getting worse too
Nice, was he able to drag those greater's all in all the way? My old lab on college used to damn near kill herself dragging those big ass birds around.
My story from a couple days ago: So last night I let the lab out back to pee and stuff before bed When I went to bring her in, she was real hesitant Like at first I got worried something was wrong or she had somehow gotten out, it was dark and I couldn't see her. Then I heard her collar jingle, but she just stood at the bottom of the stairs looking at me. Finally I get her to come up and in, but as she is coming in I realized she had something in her mouth. So she knows she cant bring stuff in from the yard, even her own toys or bones if they are out there. That's why she was hesitant. I made her stop and sit, and put my hand out telling her to drop it. She dropped a freaking frog in my hand. It kinda freaked me out, cause I was expecting it to be a piece of a bone or something hard, but it was soft and squishy wet. So I dropped it on the kitchen floor. It wasn't moving, figured it was dead, yelled at Laken to go to bed and I followed her to close her kennel. Went back in the kitchen to get rid of the frog, picked it up with a paper towel and tossed the lifeless frog in the trash and didnt think twice about it. Just went to get my shoes out of my closet and guess what I found? Yep, frog right between my shoes. Alive and well, he tried to hop away. Little fucker made it a long way to get to my closet from the kitchen trash.
My cool frog story: Saw a frog sitting by garage door. Made him move so he wouldn't get squished when I lowered the door. Two days later I see a smashed frog right behind my front tire. #whoops #coolstorybro
Gus had it and would have episodes after bursts of running. He'd just fall over and lay there scared for about a minute and then recover. His heart just couldn't pump enough blood to his heart. Vet put him on Viagra and that worked wonders
That's exactly what happens with my guy. He gets extremely excited for a very quick burst and then just wobbles over and pants for a little bit. Don't think he loses consciousness or anything and it very rarely happens.
Gus never lost consciousness either, but you could tell it scared him. The vet said that without the Viagra, his heart would have eventually just given out. Just a tip...viagra is expensive as hell. My vet had some deal with cvs to buy their expired pills at a much cheaper rate. That saved a lot of money
gf's dogs have been staying with a friend for a few months because her place in asheville didnt allow pets. we got our house set up and she's finally picking them up this weekend. a corgi, pit mix and great dane in one house is going to be an adventure but they're all sweethearts so i am looking forward to it olivia is on the left and toretto is on the right.
she's only seen tokyo drift which makes it a bizarre name. i don't get it either i own them all and she is going to learn about the majesty of the series
Don’t wait too long, he might have had a little stroke. The vet will adjust his diet. How old his the dog?
A follow-up to my post from the last page. We had the appointment with our primary vet two weeks ago and was referred to basically a canine oncologist which we met with today. News is what we expected and not good. Derby (our 9, almost 10 pit bull) has cancer and the tumor is on the bone by the upper jaw and right eye area. Surgery is an option but ensuring you get all of the cells in that issue is hard, especially because it could leave remove the ability to chew well as the jaw muscle would be removed. Also concerns of being close to the optical area. She also said the likelihood based on its type and the chance of missing part of the cancer cells gives a high likelihood that it would reappear in the first year or two. We could pay $1100-1400 to get the better biopsy and more scans to see how aggressive it is but as the vet put it, it doesn't change the outcome but just more for your knowledge. No idea what the next few months will look like. Right now she is eating/drinking/behaving normally and I hope we can make it through the holidays with that being the case. Not looking to write a sympathy post but a TLDR question of does anyone have good tips/tricks to mitigate pain and improve life quality for a 10 year old dog with cancer.
You know your dog, just keep an eye out for how he feels. If he seems tired don’t push the walks...details like this imo. And don’t feel sorry for him, enjoy the moments as much as possible.
Kinda of a cool story because it ended happy https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2019/10/14/us/mastiff-rescue-utah-trnd/index.html Cliffs Dude takes his 190 pound mastif for a hike. Dog makes it up the hill but can’t make it down. Luckily volunteer rescue group helped him bring him down.
Should be much cheaper now that's it's generic. Also, if you run into that again, check a compounding pharmacy out.
Anyone have a retired racing greyhound? After months of waiting, I finally pick my new bff on Thursday. https://www.secondchancegreyhounds.org/tnt-laramie-blog
Nope. My daughter's boyfriend's cousin is up here in NY from Nashville and he had the puppy with him (the one with more grey). Same size and similar temperament and features.
My dog loves to try and go play with cats. I never let her as I'm not sure how receptive they'd be. I have about 10 that run loose in the neighborhood. One runs up to here when we walk past their yard.
Our cats that we had before we got the dogs vacillate from barely tolerating to trying-to-disembowel the puppers. The orange one was raised with them and is totally comfortable and acts like their mini-me. And because he’s so confident around them they treat him likewise. That pointer in the video chases/tackles the other cats when they run from her, but she’s super gentle with the tabby even when he’s gnawing on her ears or tail.
We have a black Maine Coon and he runs the house. He is older and we’ve had him longer so maybe that’s why. I don’t leave him out with Groot when we go out just in case Groot realizes he is 50 pounds heavier.
My male dog is starting to get aggressive towards the female dog when she is eating. All started after bording them. Only happened twice so far, and 2e have been seperating them for meals now. No other issues besides that. They play and snuggle most of the day so they get along. Wonder if he picked up something from boarding.
Tosu got bit in the leg at daycare. Said he has puncture marks on both sides of his back leg. Said he didn't start the fight. They want him to go to the vet. They said they'd take him, since it's just down the street, or we can take him ourselves. Fiance has the day off tomorrow, and he's due for shots, but should I let them take him?
It all worked out ok in the end, but I think going forward I'd let them take him, just so he could get cleaned up/taken care of right away. The vet said we got lucky and no major damage was done to his leg/bones/nerves. He's been on a 3 pill cocktail. After a few days his swelling was gone and he was back to normal. He ended up with one puncture on the outside of his leg, and 2 on the inside. The inside ones were pretty bad.
We put bath mats in the dog’s crates so that they’re a little more comfortable and not as noisy. Last night our collie decided to shred/eat it and promptly diarrhead her brains out. Discovered the carnage at 4am when the pointer wouldn’t stop freaking out. Been cleaning for 2 hrs, still got more to do, andI’m on shit watch for the foreseeable future to make sure El Loco doesn’t need the vet.
When it comes to crate beds, I cannot recommend these highly enough if you don't mind the price tag. https://k9ballistics.com/ I've got a young male that destroys EVERYTHING and he can't do anything to these.
We have a little pad, as well as a blanket in our cage. Tosu has pushed them both into the corner and prefers to lay on the insert the cage came with. We also got him a little cot thing in hopes he would lay on it. He refuses to. He'd rather sleep in the chair or sleep on the porch. He will literally stare at you if you're in the chair, and as soon as you move he jumps up and takes your spot.
Flash and Groot beat us down. In their crates they’d destroy everything we put in for them to sleep. Now we have dog beds in our bed rooms and they just sleep the night. I know there has to be a reason why I should bring their crates back but it’s so much easier without them.
We’ve tried a lot of different cushioning and the bath mats worked the best because they don’t shift when the doggos move around so they’re much less likely to crumple them up and start gnawing on them. Anything resembling a blanket or towel won’t last more than a couple nights. The collie has chewed small bits of trim off the mat in the past and I always took it as a sign it needed to be washed because she tends to leave it alone when it’s fresh. She never tried to completely demolish and eat it though; it was pretty bizarre. Feel really bad for her—she’s a super clean dog who runs into the woods to hide when she poops. The only time I’ve ever had to clean up after her is when she’s on a leash. She keeps acting like I’m scolding her right now because she can’t stop soiling herself, it’s heartbreaking. Taking the diarrhea as a good sign, at least she’s not obstructed.
Ours both love the crates; the pointer will put herself in there when she wants to nap. We don’t have them in there every night, they do fine without it, but then they get on the bed and we don’t sleep as well because the pointer tosses around too much. The collie is actually wonderful—she sleeps on the foot of the bed and doesn’t move a muscle until you wake up—but we feel kinda bad keeping one crated and letting the other free. We’ve tried a bunch of dog beds and they all get ruined in a week. I’m very interested in those chew-proof brand posted earlier though, those look fairly indestructible.
I'm really not sure, in regards to both. I'm a pushover, and don't like confrontation, so I didn't ask much about the other dog. You'd think they'd have to kick that other dog out, or give him a suspension or something. I guess he also bit a worker while she was trying to get in the middle of it, and she went to the hospital for it. I also didn't see anything on their site about their responsibilities if something occurs. Like should they pay for the vet fee? Is that an assumed responsibility on the dog owners end, that an accident could happen? It was only a couple hundred dollars, but I could see somebody else throwing a fit if it happened to their dog.
I would check your contact and see if you waived liability I’d be pissed if Groot or Flash got bitten.
