I dunno what the fuck movie Bo Pelinis and Why?Pokes Watched, but when I saw the joker I didn't quite have he same takeaways that they've had on this page.
So are we believing Thomas Wayne or arthur smother? I was convinced after it was discovered she was crazy that she made it up that he was Arthur’s father but after seeing that message on the back of the pic of her I was conflicted
Also read on IMDB that this movie is meant to start a new company that will make standalone DC movies Wonder after the success of this film who they do next
Nelson is going to have a bad reaction to pretty much anything that expresses negative sentiments about the extremely wealthy
We were talking about Todd Phillips quitting comedy movies for reasons and not really about the movie
just felt like a popcorn moviemaker trying so very desperately to make a thinking man’s film when it actually had almost nothing interesting to say. It had all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. Arc and tension were all off too (builds up and dissipates constantly and unevenly). did it actually do that?
Finally watched it tonight and really enjoyed it. I had popcorn and a cherry coke zero. Thank you for reading this.
Finally saw it last night, and thought it was excellent. Phoenix was amazing and I’m incredibly bummed I won’t get to see him play the role again. The more I think about the movie, the more I love it. Not knowing what was real and what wasn’t was played out perfectly. IMO the subway shootings happened, his encounter with Bruce happened, killing his mom happened and he killed the neighbor/her daughter.
Depends on who is writing Batman at the time and if they want to retcon something. But, generally, no.
I think pretty much everything happened outside of the obvious relationship with the neighbor and his fantasy of himself on the Murray Franklin show.
Yeah, I think I’m with you. When he goes back to his apartment (after what I assume to be killing his neighbor) he sits down and you hear a police siren. I think that’s where he gets arrested and the next real scene is him in handcuffs at the mental hospital.
You think he killed the neighbor and daughter? I think he let them go. In part because the fantasy was always positive and even the interaction in the elevator and apartment seemed to have her being nice to him in a situation that called for none of that.
On one of the podcasts linked itt They pointed out that he shot 7-8 times during the subway shooting, when he’d only have 6 shots. They thought that was a link to that being made up
It kinda had to have happened if the theory is that he isn’t The Joker but inspired someone to become The Joker right?
I feel like that was imagined and he was caught by the detectives before which is why he’s been arrested at the end but I could certainly see it either way, which I’m sure was the point of leaving it up to us Can still happen if he really only killed the 3 guys on the train given the reaction to that news in the city
This gets fucked up in lots of movies and shows and it bothers me. So I wouldn’t put too much stock in it by saying they intentionally fucked it up in this case to tip us off that it’s supposed to be a fantasy.
In the original script he killed the neighbor and daughter. I believe they even filmed it but early screenings didn’t like it so they cut it. Think they let the audience pick if he killed them or not in the version we saw. I think the only thing that wasn’t real throughout was the relationship with the neighbor. They even do a flashback to show Arthur was alone in those scenes. I think the ending shows him later in life inside Arkham.
There's also a scene where he's on the train, I think it's when he goes out to Wayne Manor, and he's on the train and everyone is holding up their daily papers reading, but there are two different sets of headlines. One is somewhat normal and I think about the subway incident, then the other was a little aggressive, like "Kill the Rich" or something. It struck me as odd at the time that there would be two sets of headlines but by the time I realized the scene had cut and I couldn't check to see if it was the same paper with different headlines or if it was different papers. If it were both the same paper I would think that would signal that we were witnessing a delusion.
JOKER Is interesting... Phoenix is obviously a good actor, but that shit was just disturbing. It can come off as a singular acting piece for Phoenix, while in chunks is great i don't know if I thought the film was terrific overall. Yes, it plays off Shitty AMC Show JOKE and I did like some of the deep meaning behind things, but you humanize the Joker too much when he's simply an entity of evil. he has 3 origin stories in the comics, but even that is because you don't necessarily know who he is for real. Ledger's joker was phenomenal in that regard with his storytelling, and each version is different. Ultimately, I want to know what broke Todd Phillips as a person.
See I feel very differently about this and apparently from most people in this thread, so maybe I am the one that’s weird here. I liked the movie, but I think only liked it because it was the Joker. I was able to bring my own knowledge of the character to the movie to make it make sense in a way that the movie on its own doesn’t. The laughter, the randomness, and the brutality work because it’s the Joker. Without that, I’d be wondering what the point of the movie was. Just how I saw it.
I'm in the same boat. I was laser focused the entire movie, but it's not by accident that a ton of people have told me the movie was even better the second viewing. I'll definitely buy it when it comes out anyway, but yeah I agree with you.
Everyone has their own tastes, opinions, etc... but some of the takes in the last few pages makes me wonder what movie some of you watched...
i didn't read any media about it and only scrolled through this thread once or twice quickly but i saw it last night and thought it was quite good. obviously more happened in the latter half of the film but i thought the first half was pretty damn good, too. i was never bored.
I don't think I've ever had an audible reaction in a movie before like i did when Joker killed Murray
