they have an actual casino to buy wheel spins, it costs a metric shit ton of time and/or money to be any good in your my career guy.
if you only play franchises, 2k is great. if you play anything else, be prepared to spend more money. either way, shit has actual gambling and should be rated M
Umm what? You get 1 spin a day. You can't buy more. Unless you're talking about MyTeam, maybe they have something different. That's the far less popular game mode though. I don't play it at all. I'm a 99.9 in the park/3v3/Jordan rec center.
If you play park, 3v3, or rec center, it costs $50 to upgrade from a 60 to an 85. After that, you really don't have to spend anything on your guys. You get VC for every game you play so by the time you get ready to go from 85 to 86 you have the VC to do it unless you spent it on shoes/clothes. I've spent more than the $50 bc I've made multiple players but you don't have to spend a "metric shit ton" to be a 99 in the game.
Dbl do you honestly not see a problem with having to spend $50 to be able to play a $60 game at a reasonable level? Because literally no one in the gaming industry thinks its fine. Take two is one of the worst companies when it comes to microtransactions models and they have said very recently that they think they DONT HAVE ENOUGH IN THEIR GAMES. Shit is ridiculous. And i'll just go ahead and ignore the fact that gameplay has been going downhill since 2k16
I guess a $50 dollar pay to win purchase shouldn't be classified as a microtransaction since it's 50 fucking dollars.... That's the price of a new game or a DLC
I haven't played Madden in a few years so I can't really comment. I prefer the team concept in 2k and the strategy involved in working together opposed to just 1 v 1. I know The Show has a game mode where you can build a team through buying packs and play with it vs other people. Sounds like MyTeam in 2k. I don't ever mess with those game modes. I play The Show occasionally but I just hop online and play with the Yankees.
I view it as I paid $60 to play the offline version of the game. I can play it all I want and not spend anything else. If I want to enjoy the online version, it's another $50 to get into that. Games were $50-60 before all of the online modes really popped off. I don't expect the games to come with 3x as much in them while staying the same cost. I do think the price for shoes/clothes is absurd. Last year it was expensive to get a haircut smh.
They weren't near as big as they are now. The amount of people on the server wasn't neat what it is now. The game companies have to pay for servers and shit. I don't mind paying more to pay online. You do? Cool. Play offline.
Yes. Your guys comes with grey 2k shoes, grey joggers, and a brown t-shirt. You have to pay for clothes. They release new stuff every week, some of it limited so it sells out fast. Jerseys, pants, shorts, suits, socks, wristbands, shoes, etc. Anything you'd ever wear in real life is on there. I don't really get into that end of it too much though. Especially this year where I play mostly 3v3 Pro Am and your team has a uniform so there's no point in buying all of those clothes bc you can't even wear them while playing.
they do have to pay for the servers and shit, which they can easily do with microtransactions alone. the upfront $60 is the problem. so many games with similar microtransaction models manage to make a ton of money while also being free to play. if 2k wanted to make their online modes f2p while still charging $60 for the offline mode they wouldnt be hated like they are.
The free to play games typically do that bc they can't command the $60 upfront from jump. They are new games trying to grow. They HAVE to give the game away and hope it grows. Games like 2k and Madden aren't in that category. Comparing them is ludicrous. They had built in fanbases before micros popped off. You're literally mad at them for making too much money when they have millions of people willing to give it to them. That's funny.
And if I'm being honest, if p2p keeps me from having to play 8 yr olds that are screaming all game, raise the prices please.
You have plenty of free games to play. Why are you upset that I am ok with paying to play a game? Now go play an 8 yr old on Fortnite.
So you like the offline version of the game? Why in the fuck are you whining about p2p then? Are you mad they didn't give you that version for free and just make me pay to play the online version?
So if I don't pay to play online and they give the offline version away for free, how exactly are they supposed to make money? I don't think he thought this through.
I despise My Career games. I hate that you get more rep doing them than playing in the park/rec. I just hate playing the computer. I wish I could get equal or more rep in park.
I like online franchises which have long been forgotten in sports game development since the introduction of the ultimate team style modes. But hey, ive bought pointless things in game before. Skins, emotes, etc. So dont misunderstand, i dont hate all microtransactions. I just think its shitty that theres no reasonable way to get your guy to a playable level without buying those levels. Want to buy shoes to make your guy look good? Thats cool. Want to buy shit to have a competitive advantage? Thats fine whatever, i dont like it but it is what it is. Paying $50 because you literally have to to be able to play one game mode in a $60 game? Thats ridiculous. The problem here is broken down into a few parts: 1. Dev companies know people will pay for this stuff so why stop 2. Dev companies know they arent stopping so why not design the games in a way that makes extra purchases necessary 3. Now games have grinds that would take thousands of hours or you just pay $50 And dont even get me started on loot boxes. (Any game with any gambling mechanic should get a M rating) Look at gaming as a whole. Certain companies are loved and certain ones are hated. EA, Bethesda, Take Two, Ubisoft, Konami, Activision/Blizzard...all of these companies put as many microtransactions as possible into as many games as possible. And its obvious thats all they care about because the quality of the games they put out has declined steeply over the last decade. The top rated games each year arent games by these companies, theyre games from people who actually care about making good games rather than putting horrendous microtransactions in series that people grew up loving before all of this shit. The industry as a whole is being destroyed by games with yearly installments featuring as many microtransactions as possible. You can simply not care all you want thats fine, but dont act like this is a positive thing for gaming.
Thats not what i said. Sell the offline for $60, make online f2p with the current microtransaction model.
Don't want to pay the $50? Don't play that game mode. Pretty simple. Or go play a different game. But lol at getting mad at people that don't mind paying the money to play. Like I said earlier, my experience is I play against less kids in game modes that require an investment to play and I'm 100% ok with that. I'd pay $100+ to get into a 25 and up game mode.
People are willing to pay it and you're saying they should just take less. That makes no sense at all other than you just want to pay less.
I mean, people are willing to pay it. This isn't medicine. This isn't health care. It's not a necessity. It's like me saying a car manufacturer is asking too much for their car when they sell 10 million of them a year. It's a dumb position to take. Do I wish it were cheaper? Sure. Do I understand why it's not? Absolutely. People are willing to pay it so I'm not going make the company a villain for you, know, making money. I mean lol at predatory pricing on a fucking video game. That's hilarious to even say.
Predatory is a bit strong, friend. I don't love micro transactions either but I don't think they meet the standard of predatory
It's often designed to target children and people with gambling problems. That's why several countries have banned a lot of the shit they do
This idea that all game shave to be equal is dumb. 2k20 is too expensive for you? Cool, don't play it. Don't like their micros? Cool, don't play it. There's plenty of things that are too expensive for me to buy and/or enjoy. Why are all video games supposed to made cheap or free to play? That's such an asinine concept. I'd love to go buy a Rolex. But it's $25k. I don't want to pay $25k so I don't buy the watch. I don't whine that Rolex charges $25k for their watch.
I, for one, love spending money on micro transactions so that 2K can afford to slap Spike Lee’s name on the worst story I’ve ever seen instead of making meaningful improvements to their online elements, network infrastructure, or gameplay.
People are willing to pay the amount they charge. That's all that matters. You aren't. Stop whining about it.
Now this I agree with. I dont mind paying but man those servers need a boost. Gameplay isn't bad this year but that latency blows.
I've always been on team free to play and charge the hell out of cosmetics. Charging for every little thing is greedy, but it will keep up because of people like dbl who 50 bucks is a drop in the bucket.
I was pleasantly surprised that MLB The Show’s mode allowed you to build a competitive team and unlock packs/players without having to pay a dime. Obviously some/most do, but I was able to have fun and compete with just playing the game and the challenges.
Curious how fall release games will work next year. Make a ps4 version and then release a ps4 version 3 months later? Will my player transfer over?
