Oh I just finished this season. It was good, hopefully the next one is better. The drone thing was horrible in execution but I think its an interesting idea.
Just finished this one. Some pretty big plot holes, but overall very good. Still trying to get over watching Jim Halpert run around like a tough guy. Maybe it will come with more time.
Today, Amazon announced a November 1st release date for Season 2 of the action-thriller Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime Video.
Uhhh, the vast majority of the time the CIA is portrayed in film/TV it’s as some shadowy group that is almost always the bad guy in some shape or form. Jack Ryan is the only IP I can think of where the CIA is a “pure good” entity. Seems like you are just looking for a reason to be upset
So, this would qualify as passable TV for me. I binged it pretty quickly, I guess that means I liked it? My main gripe doesn't have anything to do with acting or plotlines. I think the filming/directing/editing lends itself to a more network TV experience, as opposed to a "premium" original series. I feel like they are trying to keep the outlook relatively optimistic with the presentation, in comparison to the subjects they are dealing with. I think I came in expecting a grittier, darker series, and instead got something more like a season of Bones with a little gore and titties. The background music is also really fucking annoying and tacky. Again, not befitting of a "premium" original series ...
They definitely wrapped up last season quicker and easier for my taste and so I agree it seemed like your typical ABC/NBC/CBS hour long drama in that sense. I enjoyed it though as I thought it was better than what you get from 95% of those channels and I didnt have to wait every week. Good binge show.
I really enjoy it. It’s different though. Breaks the 4th wall and is a little campy but it’s fun and mindless. If you’re not hooked through e3, probably no need to continue watching.
Liking S2 a lot more than S1 so far. No ridiculous Reaper pilot guilt subplot bullshit equivalent so far.
I finished. Thought it was a solid watch. Nothing earth shattering, or mind blowing The operator guy that was also in season 1 kept bothering. Could not figure out where he was from until it finally clicked. He is the Bud light dilly dilly king. Also, Spoiler lol at landing a helicopter and raiding the presidential compound/capitol with a 5 guys. Bit of a stretch there
Spoiler Yeah that bothered me too. As did “yeah totally cool to invade the presidential palace and murder 50+ guards just doing their job but no, we absolutely can’t kill the guy behind everything that happened”
Spoiler This was a pretty cringey ending to a good season. Like they had one day to film the climax of the season and only had access to that one location to shoot the whole episode. Also, I know it’s the character but Jack disobeying orders to the point of abandoning a mission to (almost) assassinate the president of a sovereign nation in the Presidential Palace and seat of government on Election Day, I mean come on. I was also convinced the German woman was a double agent but that part of the story kind of washed out with the tide.
I still have 2 eps left but this show has been sloppy from the jump this season. It’s moved more into the 24 style ridiculousness than a Clancy style story.
yea, this feels nothing like a clancy story. Ditching the woman who is supposed to be his wife with zero explanation was quite the culture shock.
I can live a that. That’s just deciding to keep him single no biggie. But to carelessly sleep w a random woman is dumb for a covert operative. I also laughed when he and Greer we’re talking so freely about classified information in an open air market. It’s the little stuff like that, which keeps happening several times an episode that bastardizes the meticulousness of a Clancy story Once you adjust expectations, it’s fine but it took me a little bit to realize it and accept it for what it is.
but that's what I mean. Jack Ryan is Mr. All-American Family man. Not guy who sleeps with a woman he met at a bar.
I mean, he can go back and reconnect w her later. IIrc he was already married when he was introduced in the first book. That’s just a plot device change for the show. I don’t care as much about changing stuff like that if you keep it the same thematically
I'm not as concerned with him not being with the future wife as I am with him sleeping with a rando he meets at the bar. One like you said he's on a covert opp and being very reckless, and 2, it's just not his personality. And you are correct, he is married when we are first introduced to him.
I’m 2 eps left and it’s better than the first season but the comment about it being a network TV show is spot on. I’m a huge Clancy fan but I dropped all expectations for this to actually relate to the book themes and just take it for what it is. Only way to enjoy it
The character names are the same and that’s about it. At least the CIA isn’t an evil organization like every other show of this kind.
Was convinced they were doing an Escobeto/Cortez with Reyes and the general, I was wrong. This is much better than the first season, hope it ends well.
Finished. Solid season but it could and should be so much more. Spoiler the senator being in on it was a joke
They try a bit too hard with this, you have a great season but think it needs more for some reason when it doesn't Not saying it was perfect before that as there were some stupid parts again but greatly enjoyed it
Just finished. Fun watch like last year. Spoiler I don't get naoomi rapace's character really. And showing up in Ryan's hotel room seems like something that he should be ahead of. And in still not exactly positive what she was accomplishing. I really like her though. Uber leaving the boat in the first place still makes no sense. I don't even know what he was trying to do. I don't see any purpose to having the senator in on it at the end. Like how did that make any difference in anything that happened in the season From a motivations standpoint? I like the show but some of it just holds it back from the characters really feeling fluid and purposeful.
Binged both seasons this week. It seems like between season 1 and 2 the show runners got some notes to make some changes. Like where did his chick from season 1 go? It wasn’t even mentioned like yeah, we broke up. everyone seemed to just forget she ever existed. I liked season 1 better then 2. Not that season 1 was overall better really, it had some problems (wtf was the whole drone pilot filler), but it seemed more spy thriller and less of a straight action movie of season 2. Also fuck them for killing off dilly dilly king, he was the best.
Halfway through episode 3 of season two and I think I’m done. Hate that they’ve turned Jack Ryan into an action hero.
i found it still enjoyable in the mindless way but what’s disappointing about it is that it totally caters to the non-Clancy fan at the expense of the Clancy fan.
