He just wasn’t qualified for the position and was a stop gap who lasted far longer than he should have. He signed a way below market deal with Nike, made some questionable hires, and was really poor at every aspect of the job outside of shaking hands.

West coast gators #California Golden Bears #Arizona State Sun Devils #Florida Gators

The West Coast will get a taste of the Florida Gators in the regular season for the first time since the 1980s as the program will soon announce a pair of home-and-home series with Pac-12 opponents. Florida has agreed to contracts to face the California Golden Bears and Arizona State Sun Devils as it continues to build out its schedules with Power Five nonconference games, a source close to the program told OnlyGators.com.

Florida will host Cal in 2026 and Arizona State in 2031. The Gators will hit the road to play the Golden Bears in Berkeley, California, in 2027 and then travel to face the Sun Devils in Tempe, Arizona, in 2028.

UF is 2-0 all-time against Cal and has never faced ASU. It has not played a team from the current Pac-12 since 1989 and not done so in the regular season since 1983. The Gators are 6-4-1 all-time against the conference’s programs (previously in the Pac-10, Pac-8, AAWU and Pacific Coast).

I'm interested to see how all these P5 home and homes will affect the budget for mid-majors and FCS schools in the future.

Would moving it to 8 team CFP change it back or would it make the OOC big time matchups that much more important for SOS?

May depend on whether conference champions get automatic bids. Although even if they do, it might still be better to play a P5 team because fans would not pay to see you play a cupcake knowing that it doesn't matter. I could see schools like Baylor still playing bad OOC schedules since the first goal will be to go to a bowl and if you win the conference than your OOC won't matter.

I think these games are being scheduled under the assumption an 8 team playoff is coming. Assuming all P5 conference champions get in, the focus will be on the conference schedule. Win that and you’re in. You could go 7-5 and still be in with an upset in the conference championship game.

That gives the OOC schedule two purposes: sell season tickets and position yourself to grab one of the two at-large bids if necessary. Seems like the big names are scheduling up with this in mind.

    It rules

It's definitely worrying. Obviously, the more P5/P5 games there are, the more G5/FCS games are going to be squeezed out. Same thing is happening with basketball as the P5 leagues go to 20 conference games.

I know TMB is very much "hurr durr fuck the mid-majors," but as a G5 fan, it's a big concern.

At the very least it could reduce the amount P5 schools pay G5 for those games. I think this is why schools like USF are fine taking a 2 for 1. I'm assuming Bama won't be paying them since I didn't see any financial payments for the game. USF figures better to have the revenue from Bama fans visiting than scheduling a G5.

A lot of times in a 2-1 there's a payout, but it's reduced. We normally want $1.5M+ when we play a buy game, but Mississippi State agreed to play us in Hattiesburg in 2025 so their guarantee was only $1.2M for our game this season.

USF is getting $1M for one of the games in Tuscaloosa. Typically Bama will pay close to $2M for a game like that (they paid us $1.8M this season).

As a UF fan I rather play a low-level P5 like Rutgers than a G5 team. Appears that thinking is permeating to the other schools. If the SEC and ACC stay at 8 conference games than I think most bigger schools will schedule to 2 P5s, 1 G5, and 1 FCS. It doesn't really make sense for the Mississippi schools, Vandy, Duke, UVA, Wake, Arkansas, and etc. to play 2 P5s when getting to a bowl game is the realistic goal most seasons.

Mississippi State is a program that's really scheduled smart over the past decade or so. Their model is basically 1 P5, 2 regional G5s, and 1 FCS. They do play a lot of 2-1s, so it leads them to playing in some places where SEC/P5 schools usually don't go (Troy, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, etc.), but their fanbase generally travels well so it works for them. NC State is sorta similar.

No, it was not previously announced ( tho it was rumored ).

I love any west coast destination, but wanted ASU, UCLA, or Washington ( more for the destinations than playing those particular programs ).
