Which would you prefer A. Sign JD and a one of Wheeler or Bumgarner or B. Sign one of Ozuna, Castellanos and one of Wheeler or Bumgarner I imagine the Braves will not get JD, corner OF, and a starter at the level the Braves need. I like option A and ride with platoon mix of Ender, Duvy, and Kakes and mix in Pache and Waters later on, if ready. Riley also would still be an option for the OF too (after working stuff out at AAA)
I'll be weird and say give me JD, Castellanos, and somebody like Hamels. I'm not enamored enough with Wheeler or Madbum. Do you have the projected numbers on Hamels, SC ?
12. Cole Hamels, LHP Age: 35 2019 salary: $20 million (in the last year of a seven-year, $158 million contract) WAR: 2.5 ERA: 3.81 FIP: 4.09 WHIP: 1.39 K/9: 9.1 W/9: 3.6 BABIP: .315 GB%: 47.3 Spin rate: FB 2,059, CB 2,040, CH 1,713 Hamels is aging well and showing few signs of decline, delivering three pretty consistent years from 2017 to 2019 in terms of strikeout and walk rates, ERA and FIP. He most likely will get a two-year deal like Justin Verlander and J.A. Happ received last offseason, and most likely will sign only with a legitimate contender. Best fits: Cubs, Phillies, Brewers, Twins, Astros, Angels Contract prediction Years: Two AAV: $18 million Total: $36 million
I want JD back because he’s one of the spark plugs this dull ass team desperately needs but I’d hate to go into the season with a Ronnie, Ender, Kakes/Duvy outfield. Trade some of these young arms that are most definitely not going to work out (see: everybody but Ian)
“We don’t know what’s wrong with Julio because he looks great in practice.” Don Mattingly on Julio Teheran sporting a 9.45 ERA
I don't wish anything that bad on Ace. He seemed to care a lot, at least. Let him go somewhere like San Diego or something.
MLBtraderumors predicts 15. Cole Hamels – Braves. Two years, $30MM. Hamels is headed toward the twilight of his career, with his 36th birthday around the corner. The southpaw change-up artist has an admirable career record. His 39.3 WAR from 2007-15 ranks sixth in MLB, nudged between likely Hall of Famers Justin Verlander, Zack Greinke and CC Sabathia. Hamels is still an above average starting pitcher, as evidenced by a 3.30 ERA in 39 starts for the Cubs since they traded for him at last year’s deadline. His Chicago renaissance was in full swing for his first 16 starts of 2019, featuring a 2.92 ERA, but an oblique strain in late June knocked him out for over a month. Hamels posted a 5.79 ERA in 10 starts after his return, creating some cause for concern. 18. Mike Moustakas – Braves. Two years, $20MM. If we keep predicting a multiyear deal for Moustakas, will he finally get one? Time will tell! Moose, who was hitting 38 home runs before everyone starting doing it, has signed consecutive one-year deals the last two winters. He’s not one to draw many walks, though he’s improved in that regard, and he’s smacked 101 home runs over the past three seasons. Moustakas’ third base defense rates as acceptable, and he’s even shown he’s capable of handling second base. It’s a solid 2-3 WAR package that could still be useful to the Brewers. The Braves, Nationals, Phillies, Orioles, Indians, Twins and Rangers could get involved as well. JD to the Rangers, Keuchel to the White Sox, Ace to the Mariners
I think if you end up going from JD to Moose, you damn sure better upgrade somewhere else offensively. Like with Grandal.
Boff dem. We aren't getting Cole or Stras, so attack the problem with quantity. Fried and Soroka are locks for the rotation, Folty likely is unless he has a disastrous spring, need two legit options to go with.
Go spend all the way up to the luxury tax and give me something like Grandal, JD, Castellanos, Hamels, Daniel Hudson, and Jake Diekman Ronnie Oz Freddie JD Grandal Castellanos Ender Bae Flowers Kakes Camargo Culberson Soroka Fried Folty Hamels Tryouts - Touki, Wright, or Wilson (or even Anderson or Davidson) Touki, Wright, or Wilson Newk Grant Dayton Duke Melancon Diekman Shane Greene Hudson
Newk has a real shot to move back to the rotation next year. Especially after Minter makes his comeback.
That’ll be an instant offseason thread ban for you. Consider your actions and their ramifications in the future.
"That last part is the greatest concern to any Giants officials looking for a reunion. Per league sources, the Braves have made Bumgarner a priority and planned to quickly communicate that to the left-hander. Atlanta sniffed around before the trade deadline and they are the clear favorite if Bumgarner does end up elsewhere."
The Braves would like to pair a front-line starter with Soroka, so they are expected to be among the teams bidding for Madison Bumgarner and Zack Wheeler on the free-agent market. Atlanta declined Teheran’s $12 million option, so it will look for better value at a more affordable price with a veteran like Wade Miley, who has tasted success each of the past two seasons with the Brewers and Astros. Newcomb will be given a chance to start during Spring Training, and he could supply rotation depth. But he might be more valuable back in the bullpen.
related thought...it would be really cool if we forcibly removed snitker from the coaching staff in some capacity
Let’s say we’ve got $50 million to spend (we don’t) with Donaldson, Keuchel, Julio, and BMac off the books. What combination of free agents would field the best team?
Also, we are being investigated by the players association because AA said some done shit. Possible collusion charges to come.
You want to commit $25 mil a piece to two guys? I love JD but I’d being willing to downgrade if it meant Castellanos, Grandal, and some pitcher. Also, we need Alex Wood back.
What would we realistically have to give up for Betts? Probably Anderson and Pache/Waters for starters. I’d do it.
I think the market for Grandal will be huge. I'd love that but I just never get my hopes up for shit like that. Think wheeler has ace stuff though and Donaldson was back to near mvp level. You can probably get those two dudes and Wood for 50. Plus the flexibility we gained with Markakis/flowers.
I think Alex comes really cheap. JD, Grandal and whatever arm you could get for ~$8M would be my choice.
