One of the dumber points that is regularly stated on message boards (by paste eaters) is that a person who doesn’t think something will happen can’t/won’t enjoy it if it does. I don’t think we’ll win the Natty this year. I will be there and enjoy it immensely if we do.
Nope. If you boo the coach, you're ultimately booing the performance of kids, and most of them take it that way. Our crowd allegedly booed our coaches at halftime against Kentucky, and a number of the players had quotes clearly taking it personally. It doesn't fucking do anything, and it's shitty for players and recruits.
Kirby wasn’t switching offensive styles this last off-season, so there’s no way that the Fields who everyone sees right now, would’ve emerged. Day’s offense is perfect for maximizing QB stats, and Fields is thriving there (lesser QBs have thrived in the system, too). I wish we had their offensive style, but Fromm was still a better fit, for what Kirby was still looking for. Maybe by the time that the next Fields comes around, we will have switched styles from a run-heavy, game manager @QB style of offense, to something that is more built to maximize the most important position in the game? Kirby wants to continue to lean on a killer defense, and control the clock. If he is successful with that at some point over the next two seasons (counting the current year, since the playoffs are still in our control), then he might never change it. If he doesn’t win a natty during that stretch, then that is when I bet he makes a change.
Our offense would be so much better with a threat to keep the ball and with the ability to create plays when our receivers are covered. In fact, having Fields may be a more significant upgrade in a shit offense like ours than in one who can name their score with anybody at QB.
Not necessarily. You get the ball at the 50 yard line after an opponent punt. There’s one minute left in the first half and you have three timeouts. You take three knees and go to half. The fans are booing. Everyone in the world, including the players, know that that boo is directed at the coach’s decision and not the players.
Most everyone outside of our fanbase was calling Fields a bust at this time last year. He showed nothing to lead us to believe that he would have emerged as the player that he is in Ohio State’s offense. For the record, I WISH we would have done what Kirby was preaching about during Fields’ recruitment, and actually switched to an RPO-heavy offense. Fields would have thrived here, like he is in Columbus, if that would have actually happened. I think Kirby just saw an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” situation with Fromm at QB. Kirby clearly may have been naive with that thinking, but that thinking allowed him to continue pushing for his defense to face less series per game and to control the tempo. Kirby will need to care more about his offensive production (we will lose to LSU if we have to continue to settle for FG attempts like we have been), than his offensive recruiting (most likely why Coley was retained and given the OC title), moving forward.
Still against it. It doesn't ever accomplish anything. It's also just kind of behavior for self-important entitled dbags. College football teams aren't there for your personal enjoyment.
At the risk of being positive, this is probably the fastest UGA defense of my lifetime. We can run at every level. We are also as fundamentally sound as any defense in the country. Incredibly well-coached. We will be in every game we play including the SECCG. They are that good.
Thinking ahead to next year when hopefully the offense has caught up (aka more experience between fromm zeus, dom and pickens) and the only people I could think that we lose off defense would be Crowder and Reed?
Is Coley still our OC? Cant exactly catch up when you’re hamstrung by playcalling. Wish we could keep Cager for another year.
Here's my cold ass take. We are built in an old school way with defense being priority. Offensively, we have all the pieces and have shown when necessary we can score enough against good defenses. I am worried as to whether we can keep up with elite offenses, but I was equally worried in 2017 when we kept up with and beat OU. I don't feel supremely confident that we will win out, but I think we can. We don't have a perfect football team, but neither does LSU or bama. As much as I hate to say it, OSU probably has the most complete and closest to perfect team. Fields is a part of that, but they also have the best defense per statistics in college football. They also have a Heisman candidate at rb. They also haven't played the meat of their schedule. After nine games we still control our own destiny and that is awesome. That's more than we could have hoped for prior to Kirby in a long time. Under Kirby, we've been in that position each of the last three years. I choose to appreciate that. Also think it's interesting that Fromm is really the only qb he's had during that time and he's built his team accordingly. As previously argued successfully, there's no way a rational coach would have benched Fromm for a freshman fields and Kirby wanted like hell to keep him. Don't see anyone arguing that Eason should have gotten his job back. Fields transferred in lieu of fighting for a job which is understandable. He found the best possible situation and I'm still confused as to why he got to play right away when neither Eason nor Ford were able to.
We are going to lose a lot of snaps on the DL. Clark, Barnett, Marshall...maybe Rochester?...but we bring a lot back. I don’t see Dick leaving early.
Rochester can't possibly leave. We have a ton of young talent that will grow into the system and be just fine. Wyatt, davis, and walker will be just fine.
Agreed. But we need those kids who are redshirting to be ready to play. And hopefully the good things we are hearing about Walthour are true.
Herring is on the verge of being a force. We may take a small step back next season but we are still going to be really good.
Excited about logue too. I'm pretty certain I butchered his name. And for the record, I froze my ass off enjoying the Mizzou win in section 336. There was a dickheads behind me that complained about every fucking snap. E.g. we threw to Pickens deep on the outside multiple times and used it to bait the DB into soft coverage; Pickens then sat down and Fromm hit him for 5ish yards for a first down; dipshit then yells, "why are you throwing a screen to him? He is covered!" I wanted to punch him, his wife, and their kid.
We do a lot of shotgun option runs where Fromm rarely keeps (kind of neutering the play’s effectiveness), but not many run pass options (usually designed roll-outs with lots of crossing patterns towards the roll-out).
Most frustrating thing about our offense is that we run on first down every single time. And then we run on second down a lot of the time.
Yes, I had some of the same shit going on behind me. You don't have to listen to most of them for more than five minutes to realize they know nothing about football.
I'll say this as well - 7 looked awfully good on that defense Saturday. 16 looked very good as well when he was in. We have young talent oozing from our pores on defense. With TS, NS, ND and QW coming on...not to mention JJ...our defense is only going to get better down the stretch here.
I swear to fucking God it angers me to see Citadel cadets getting so many open threes. There is no excuse for that. Pathetic.
We are really good in transition. We are going to get a lot of TO's and steals this year and we should turn it over far less now that we have competent handlers and two actual PG's (not counting Edwards). Our half court defense must improve if we want to dance.
Our other guys like Camara, Walton and Manze are all much more athletic than most in this lineup. Brown too. need these guys to grow up, get stronger, etc
Citadel kenpom 315. This is not a good UGA team, and we have a long ass way to go. Likely going to be another losing season.
Uk just beat the #1 team in the country and just lost by 3 to Evansville. Teams are still finding their rhythm.
