woww yall Hoops are back together we're so blessed. Indefinite hiatus a while back and I guess that was so Kevin Krauter could do his solo thing for a bit. But they're back making beautiful tunes. Was on the Fat Possum site looking for a cool t-shirt they used to sell and saw them promoting a tweet with this track below :fap:

this new track is called They Say

My boss is going to Post Animal/Twin Peaks this evening and I'm going to get wild with Nots. I could have a much shittier boss

Excited for tonight. First time seeing Nots as a 3-piece group

Big couple days for emo. Dogleg released one of my favorite songs in a long time and signed to Triple Crown and Glass Beach signed to Run for Cover and announced they're re-issuing their first album in 2020.

and black midi becomes the first list snatch of the year, had seen them in my recommendations on youtube a bit but don't think I checked them out at all, this thing's just the right kind of weird

if you liked the first Priests album, you should check out The World from Oakland. Solid post punk stuff that you can dance to. They have a couple albums called First World Record and Reddish

another Oakland band, Body Double, was the first opener. They're led by some bad ass engineer named Candace Lazarou who runs a coding group for women. They were incredible. I will 100% be trying to see them again whenever possible. Their pedal effects and synth really got me

I'd always avoided Sturgill Simpson for whatever reason, well actually I'm sure it's due to my strong dislike of country, but I'm two tracks deep on this album and ready to chalk it up as a snatch, apparently this grimy futuristic red-dirt/synth mixture's something I needed

He literally got me into Americana or country whatever you want to call it. Literally love all his shit and it’s the certainly the most “country” music I’ve ever liked. I’ve actually found quite a few groups I like that are “twangy” but it’s more the vocalist accent than the music IMO.

Certainly one of my top albums of 2019. Can’t wait to see it live in 2020.

Metamodern Sounds in Country Music is an all-time great album for me. I didn't like A Sailor's Guide to Life and the jammy direction he went with his live shows so I've been hesitant to listen to the new one

Will try to do so soon though

I like the new Sturgill. It's p cool. Stapleton has an incredible voice, but I don't care for much of his music. Childers doesn't do it for me.

Lower Dens made me feel this year like Wild Nothing made me feel in 2018. Bands I love releasing albums that do nothing for me is always a bummer. There's not a track on The Competition that makes me want to go back and listen to it. Thankfully they had a solid body of work I can still enjoy

was thinking earlier, this has gotta be my favorite musical decade. The decade that spanned 2000-2009 saw me listen to some pretty lame music early on, because I was in 8th/9th grade at the front end of the decade and then focused too much on "fitting in" in HS and early on in college. So this decade was kind of a clean slate, not tainted by exposure to Phish or Zeppelin or Derek Trucks Band. I'm ready to move onto a new one but will recall this decade very fondly down the road

we should do some best of 2010s lists

My early to mid 2000's playlists were dominated by 311, Goldfinger, Sublime, Incubus, and O.A.R's live album. It's also wild to think back to around 2000 when I didn't think I was much of a music fan simply because I felt like I had to pretend to enjoy what was popular, which was basically the only music I knew. Goldfinger was the band that genuinely made me fall in love with music again, and then The Mars Volta in around '04-05 completely changed my tastes.

Loved incubus as well, science through a crow left of the murder. A shame what they devolved into, horrible live band. Volta was fantastic as well for a bit too, unfortunately missed them live in their prime. PJ was and still is high on my list I’ve seen them live a lot and will continue to with a group of friends. They’re fantastic live and worth paying to see, in my mind. They are no longer in my rotation just because I’ve listened to them so much but i can’t deny any of the above is/was great music.

I agree the 2000s were a rough decade musically for me. I’d really need to dig to find something that’s lasted for me. I don’t think anything has other than some really occasional Radiohead.
