same, at least the Ringer piece on it said the first 4 episodes have been proven to be better than the movie...which ain't saying much
thought the first one was pretty interesting. I'll definitely check out the next few to see where it goes.
Book reader checking in Liked the first episode but it wasn’t great. Solid but a little methodical. A LOT of table setting which was a little surprising. Think it could go places.
from what I read, the first 3-4 episodes are all table-setting. gives me hope for the series because all the critics were given was the first four.
Book lover here and really liking it so far. Honestly the first half of book one is table setting so I'm not surprised
So is this world kind of like Harry Potter in there are secret magician like people who hide from “muggles” in present day? But I guess in what looks like another dimension. I have no idea wtf is going on with the Magistarium or what’s going on up North with the “dust” but I think Lyra is a good character and I love how these little demons follow their people around. I Will admit it’s slow and doesn’t make a lot of sense yet, but I’m still intrigued.
Spoiler The series is set in a multiverse. The show is going a bit out of order from the books in introducing our world already (doesn’t happen til book two) but they’re doing it because it’s hard to do identity reveals on a tv show
Damn gave away a big reveal in episode 2 but I liked the choice. Worked better than learning from Coram in some exposition later
I have really enjoyed the first four episodes. The table setting of the world has actually been really good.
I liked the show overall but as a huge fan of the books I didn't like Lyra's personality in the show. Daphne Keen plays her entirely too civilized and empathetic; Lyra is supposed to be a savage little asshole until book three
liked the series well enough, but get the feeling we still aren't going to get the batshit craziness of book 3 on film at any point soon. They haven't renewed for a 2nd season yet, have they?
Enjoyed the first season a good bit. Read the books in middle school but that being two decades ago made me forget a ton. Did not see the twist in the finale at all
I just finished the finale. I enjoyed the show quite a bit. I’ve read the books and liked them, but didn’t love them. The show has some noticeable differences already outlined itt, but it’s quite watchable. I’m glad to read they’re already filming season 2. I thought they nailed a lot of the casting, Mrs. Coulter especially.
Never read the books, but enjoyed the show. It wasn't on the level of Watchmen, early GOT but it was good. I'm not sure if I liked Lin Manuel or not, I'm not sure how the character was supposed to act but he seemed... off. Also the bear's voice was weird.
I feel it's getting better, but I am still not 100% in. There is a lot of dumb writing that keeps me bought in 100%. That said, I did like episode 3 and 4 better.
Just finished up Felt stronger and more assured than szn 1. Still not a great series but a good watch that’s keeping my attention. I like how they’re accelerating into the books. Amber Spyglass story elements coming quickly in szn 3. kid who plays will is good. they do a great job with the daemons. Casting of Lin Manuel Miranda and Andrew Scott were brutal mistakes. Brutal, brutal mistakes.
Was it just me or did I see little or no marketing that this show was back? I only stumbled across it in HBO Max
Yeah zero about it. I think this is the last season maybe they don’t care enough to spend anything else on it. Which means probably not getting the other books unless some other service picks them up.
Binged this show over the past 3-4 weeks. Thought it was a solid show but won't get a rewatch at any point. The kids and most of the adult acting were great. Lyra, Will, Marisa, Father Hugh, Red Head lady and even *most of McAvoy's acting - all very good The angels on the good guys team were all very very bad. The one that was tortured by Asriel was multitudes better. And some of the witches and lower Magesterium acting was meeeeh. Lin.... idk he played his role a little too.............. disney sidekick. I was actually slightly relieved when he got got. Season 1 took a little while for me to figure out wtf was going on but by the end of it was reasonably invested Season 2 was really good TV I thought Season 3 felt rushed but I get that it was a final season and probably had to do fast paced to wrap everything up in 8 episodes The show ending I thought was pretty bad. The not being able to survive in one another's world thing wasn't a good sell. May have been poor display of John Parry because that MFer had been outside his world for a long time and was still doing just fine. Lyra had absolutely no reason to go back to her world anyways. Everyone was dead. meh
The ending was book accurate for the most part. Will’s dad was slowly dying in Lyra’s world and didn’t have much left in him after only a decade. I like how they really fleshed out what Asriel was doing, which they largely skipped in the books and kind of just jumped back into his story ready for battle, and I REALLY liked how much more of a role and depth they gave to Ms Coltier, and Rita Wilson killed it. I think Daphne Keene and Will did good jobs with the direction they were given, but I think they made Lyra entirely too polite given she’s described in the first chapter of Northern Lights/Golden Compass as a “savage” who lied compulsively the entire series. Over all I’m pleased with that they did with one of my favorite series.
