Also was able to get the first barrel pick for Bulleit. They modeled their distilling process to Four Roses, which you can tell from the profile of the bourbon. I would recommend it if you can find it, $53.
If this thread accomplishes nothing more than a detailed and updatable OP, as well as the return of Artoo into our folds... well men I call it a success.
Does Bulleit actually distill and age their own juice? I know that some or all of their selections at least used to be MGP.
The owner of the store I recently friended called me to tell me he has pappy 10 or 12 he will hold for me. I’ve had the 12 never the 10. Thoughts on what I should pick?
No, he is going to be fair with me. I’m not worried about that. Just don’t know if I should stick with the 12 or try the 10.

Knob Creek got some hate earlier but I have some single barrel reserve that’s lovely. Tons of caramel. Got in the low 30 price point for 120 proof so a great value.
Old Granddad 114 is a solid addition to any bar. Can be sipped and can be mixed. Great price point too.
How do you guys like to drink your bourbon? Any specific glass you like to use? Neat, ice cube (round or square), stones?
I virtually always drink it neat, only adding ice if I’m trying to do a full fledge review of something. I prefer a Glencairn or a Norlan, but a standard rocks glass works fine. NEAT glasses are great for nosing but awkward to actually drink from. I think whiskey stones are pretty pointless, but that’s just my personal stance and I know folks that like them.
I like glencairn for expensive stuff, but really enjoy drinking out of my Whiskey Peaks because they are cool as hell.
The boldest portion seems counterintuitive to me. Wouldn’t the addition of ice make certain tasting notes muted?
It can bring out flavors by changing the solubility of oils, etc in the bourbon. So you try neat, then with a little ice/water to see how it changes.
What do you mean by “barrel pick”? They couldn’t have been single barrels. They don’t make a single barrel bourbon and they’ve only done two single barrel ryes (at $125/bottle). All of their stuff is small batch, except those two ryes (which they don’t distribute).
I’m tasting with a buddy this weekend, thinking about trying a sub $20 or sub $25 challenge. Heaven Hills BiB Evan Williams BiB Buffalo Trace or Larceny or 1792 Very Old Barton
Taste it neat first, get all those notes, then add a few drops of water to see if that changes anything. I usually do water over ice, but it can do the same thing. It can make a big difference in some bourbons.
Got a bottle of E.H. Taylor Small Batch yesterday for $52 in Ashland, KY. Great liquor store, had a ton of somewhat hard to find bottles, will make a stop there when I go to Ashland from now on. Giving it out as a Christmas gift to one of my sales managers I don’t drink bourbon at all but I kind of enjoy the chase, I just give out bottles as gifts to bosses or clients.
I have two 15 yr barrel picks that are some of my favorite pour out of my cabinet. I used to have the same opinion of them but those selections changed my tune.

Hi, yes. If you enjoy the chase and enjoy giving them out, can I be a client? Or boss, that also works too.
The owner of the store I buy from went to the distillery and selected those barrels. Also did the rye last year.
