I have an out of town job interview next week and my current company’s ceo will be in town prior. He leaves the same day and general time that I do. We have our largest division in the city I’m traveling to for my interview so it wouldn’t be much of a coincidence that he’d spend the rest of the week there. I caught a glimpse of his itinerary and I think we’re on the same flight. I can’t find another flight with a similar departure time. He would obviously know I’m not traveling for work so do I hope he doesn’t see me? Go a head tell him where and why I’m going? I haven’t put in for a personal day yet so I don’t want to make up a lie only to get caught in it later. If I get this job I’d still be interacting with my current company so maintaining a good relationship is important. I’m kind of freaking out about it, and trying to tell myself I could have imagined seeing SAV on the itinerary.
Is it out of the realm of possibility that you could have friends or family in that town that you’d be visiting?
Yeah I’d go with friends or family unless you’re going some place really random and isolated specific to your industry like Billings, MT.
Well than you have no choice but to travel incognito. Trenchcoat, glasses and moustache at minimum with a most exquisite top hat.
Went down to NC one time for a trip and this dude next to me on the plane home would not shut the fuck up. He was really nice so we shot the shit for about 90 minutes. So we are getting ready to land he says hey who do you work for? I say the company name and he tells me to shut fuck up. Turns out we worked in the same building (only one company in the building) for 3 years and we were in the same building all week. Neither of us recognized each other. Turns out he was our controller which was handy for me in the future. Long story short get your story straight, you might sit next to him.
You’re both way off. thunderstruck: Step up your wardrobe game. Go to express and have an chick employee help you chose 3-4 jeans (about 60.00 each and make sure they fit well). Then match 3-4 long sleeve dress shirts, make sure you buy at least one long sleeve that stands out like Red (about55.00 per dress shirt). Next select 2 belts with nice buckles ask the employee to help you with it (20.00 per belt). Then buy 2 dress shoes black and brown (about 70-90 each). Ask her for help picking out 4-5 t-shirts buy them at any other store you want, just make sure there stylish. Next is accessories. No its Not gay to addstylish accessories to your wardrobe. Purchase one of those leather fossil watches black or brown (75.00 each). Add a few clean bracelets (15-40.00). Purchase 2-3 necklaces with unique pendants (doesn't have to gold/silver, 20-50.00 each Don't know if you have hair or not but go to a salon and have a female advice you on what haircut style will fit you best. Then go to your local gym and sign up. Work out 3-5 times a week if possible. The last thing you gotta buy is that family packj of trojan condoms from costco cause you're going tobe banging chicks left and right. Good luck
If I can confirm that we’re on the same flight I’m leaning towards being honest and telling them that I’m interviewing
He's probably sitting first class, you're probably a bum in coach, so just show up to the gate late and slip by boss man as he sips on his welcome cocktail in 1st class paying no attention to the poor people like you walking by.
Or call TSA and report him as a suspicious person with a bomb. He misses his flight and your flying solo
But honestly, if you’re flying out on a Monday or Tuesday, ehhh. Flying out on a Friday? Fuck it, enjoying a nice weekend out of town. Unless you’re flying to some bumfuck town.
Confirmed today that he will NOT be on my flight. Anticlimactic ending for y’all, but a big relief for me.
I don't feel that the proper question is if, because the answer is certainly yes. The questioning should involve techniques used.
Now that the CEO knows who’s boss, it seems like you might need to stay where you are and cuck his job.
I don’t know where to post this, but I have 2700 square-feet of office space that I need to redesign to seat about 30 staff. Any architects or space planners on the board that work in this area?
I’ve done that before. Are we talking stationary installations, open and mobile desks? Wired to stationary outlets or strung and dropped wherever? Cubes? Dividers?
For anyone who cares about how the negotiation ended up... Met the founder for lunch on Friday. We talked for about 45 minutes and he answered a couple small questions I had. He then said my decision seemed pretty made up, so when can I sign. I said, well, the recruiting firm told me a couple days ago they communicated my counter offer to you and I was wondering what you thought of it. He said, yes, he heard the counter through them, but he wanted me to make the case to him in person. The counter I pitched through the recruiting firm was a 7.5% increase in cash comp vs. their offer and a 1.0% increase in equity stake. The equity was a lot more important to me as it might be pretty valuable long term. I was caught off-guard by the "make the case live" question; maybe I should have expected it, but I was anticipating he would lead on it. So while I was thinking through it in my head, I thought that the most important thing was securing the equity and I didn't want to risk him giving me the cash comp but only going up 0.5% or no equity. So I mentioned I thought I was underpaid relative to market, and have a comp study to prove it, but I get they're a new firm who might not be able to pay me full market yet. So in lieu of the full cash comp, and plus the fact that I have three friends who made a similar move recently and got between 3% and 4% equity, I am fine with the cash comp if you agree I'l have a chance to discuss a raise at the end of 2020 and you increase my equity to 3.5%. He said that works and accepted on the spot. So part of me is second guessing the fact that I may have left ~5-10% of cash comp on the table, and disappointed I I froze a bit and backed down from making both asks. But part of me thinks it made a good impression that I am thinking long-term by thinking about the equity and if we have a great 2020, I'll be able to negotiate to at or above market (and if I don't have a good year, I can't complain about my comp). So anyway, got the title and equity I wanted and hopefully comp takes care of itself if I perform.
Idk what is going on but feels like I'm being recruited constantly. So far the following opportunities have presented themselves in the past month TBM Lead for a bank in Denver (I think I'm too expensive for them, but they may come back due to my work history) Director role for an ITBM team in Denver Hemp and Cannabis Consulting in Colorado and Oklahoma Director for a VC/Incubator firm in Puerto Rico Manager for the internal CIO at Indeed.com Big4 Consulting in the IT space at this point, I've got a lot of interviewing and soul searching to do.
oh and my software startup got funded at a 2.5M valuation so i don't even know if I have the time to go back to corporate america.
Yeah, there is a reason why I left KPMG. The travel is fucking brutal. They still are after me though.
Haha, same here. Old partner emails me about twice a year asking if I’d be interested in returning (usually after he’s just signed an SOW for an engagement in the middle of nowhere).
luckily my old MD doesn't try to bring me back to KPMG, he is the one that keeps throwing my name in the ring for all of his clients that are in need of my skills.' It's the other Big4/IT mgmt firms that hit me up due to my quals and certs.
I won't lie. My colleagues always thought i was researching my industry when they saw me on this message board
I’m not in the tech space but I can imagine. I’ve intentionally left some of my certifications off my LinkedIn profile because I’m not interested in reading every slapdick recruiter’s intro message.
It's always the same They repeatedly ask, Can I get you're resume? When you finally break down and give it to them, they go ghost. Cocksuckers
I'm going stir crazy sitting in the house, job searching all day. At the same time I don't need to be leaving the house spending $5 here, $10 there on stupid shit just to get out of the house. Hopefully the weather stays decent and I can take the pup to the dog park some or something.
