BrickTamland , this is correct. You can throw in some variances too. For example, taste immediately after adding a few drops of water and swirling. Then cover with a piece of paper and wait 30 minutes to swirl and taste again.

After the first sip, I generally add a few drops of water and if it is over 100 proof a small ice cube too. When the weather is hot I add several of the rocks to make it cool without diluting it.

Rye younger than 4 years can be surprisingly good at barrel proof. Buying 4 year old bourbon used to be for $9 bottom shelf bottles. Now they add a zero and sell it as “craft.” There will be a market correction soon and the backlash will be brutal on younger bottles.

I have these too. As well as the ones below and glencairns. Glencairn is the best way to get the nose of a bourbon imo.

An FYI for getting the notes out of smelling a bourbon is to not swirl, and let it settle. Swirling will release ethanol giving you a nice burn in your nose, which will mute the scents. A small swirl should be ok if it has sat for a while and you don't smell much, but aggravate it too much and you'll get a nice dose of ethanol.

Big fan of adding water as you can control the dilution. Ice makes the last few sips entirely too weak.

What’s the deal with Contradiction Bourbon, Smooth Ambler? Had some last weekend and it was delightful, but today at the liquor store I saw it had some USA Today #1 pick type award. Is this some mainstream non-cunty bourbon, or decent pick for cheap?

Think I’d stick with the Smooth Ambler Old Scout 7yr, which is the same price if not cheaper.

(Contradiction blends that 7yr high-rye bourbon with 2yr wheated bourbon.)

One entry into the raffle for every bottle of bourbon purchased that day. If you win, you get to overpay for one of these bottles. I am less and less interested in participating in this as I get closer to Saturday.

That crap always pisses me off. Charge what you want for bottles if you’re selling them directly, but if you’re going to do a raffle or big release event that requires additional purchases and you STILL aren’t close to MSRP, then you suck

This is how our raffle worked. There was a group of guys that bought about 200 tickets worth of bourbon (minimum 20 dollar bottles) and they didn't get any of the ultra rare stuff. It was awesome.

I’m a fan of raffles in general, and don’t mind requiring other purchases, but if you do that, stick to MSRP even if it means nonprofit on that one bottle. Just sort of an unspoken rule.

A couple months back I went to a store release (their first) for just stuff like ETL, Blanton’s, OWA. These idiots were at $99 for Blanton’s and $89 on OWA. People just left without buying anything and they seemed genuinely confused

Gave a client a bottle of Weller 12 a month or so back

He called me this morning to give me a bottle of Blanton's for free, I guess he got 10 bottles in Iowa over thanksgiving.

I think I'll keep the Blantons, will be the only bottle of Bourbon in my house.

I just keep looking at that list and the only ones I think I’d be willing to pull the trigger on are: W12, Birthday, WLW, and ER17.

Not really sure about MSRP for everything on the list though.

I use FB groups for secondary pricing just bc I see those actually sell. Some of those secondary prices are a little high based on those groups.

    Rip 10 - 450
    Lot B - 500
    PVW15 - 1000-1100
    4RLE - 300ish
    EC18 - 180ish
    ETL - 140
    OFBB - 375
    Weller Antique - 80

Those prices are what you can get these shipped to your door for from the groups. Give or take a couple percent

Saw some Van Winkle bottles at my local beer store. Curiosity made me ask how much.

    10 - $399
    12 - $599
    15 - $999

I fucking hate the bourbon craze, but that guy running the store sure the fuck loves it I bet, because some dumb asshole is going to end up buying those.
