House is taking 10-12 months to build so I should be good by then. I need to dig into the home options at some point to educate myself on what all is out there.
Have fun. We are about to buy and that brings rethinking on what we have and where it goes. With 10-12 months in mind, it wouldn't shock me if some new product category had 'smart home integration'. They have fans, garage doors, blinds, etc already what is next? I saw christmas trees in home depot last night that seemed to have some sort of smart feature....
I know they have smart plugs out there now. I think it was Samsung that I saw. Think you left the iron on? Turn off that plug from your phone. Really want to stick with as much Google as I can though bc I want to run it all through one app.
So I have had the XL, XL2 and now XL3. The trade-in value for the XL3 is only 160 but I can still trade in an XL2 for 100. I like the idea of having a backup phone just in case. Someone talk me out of getting the XL4 and trading in my XL 2. 100 dollar trade in plus 100 dollar Fi Credit and I love these phones.
I keep a backup phone always. Currently using my Pixel XL2 as my backup and it's still great. I'd probably keep the 3 in your case, though. Also, My OnePlus 7 Pro is still the best phone on the market, but I really want that orange 4XL. :(
You can get more for it than that by selling it online. I just sold my 64GB Pixel 3 and accessories for $400 on Swappa
I also keep a backup phone. Everyone should have a workable phone for emergencies. Keep an eye on your warranty end date. My 2XL expires this week because I bought it at launch. I'm leaning toward the upgrade - just have to think through risk of buying via Amazon/BB (slightly cheaper) vs Google (slightly more $$, but with easier exchange if needed).
Face unlock is super quick and gets me from any angle which is nice. Project Soli has promise but it's going to need some work. Works great when the phone is on a flat surface but when I had it in my car in the cupholder I was trying it out to skip songs and it was about a 50% hit rate. I think partially my shifter was next to it which was throwing off the radar. They have gotten rid of the bottom menu/back button so its all swipes/gestures but its very slick. Haven't really tested out call quality yet
I've been a Galaxy S guy for close to a decade. Thinking about getting saucy and trying a Note or Pixel.
You should be able to. I know when I took my current PIxel 1 to full gestures on Android 10 it gave an option for the old, classic 3 buttons, and newer 2 buttons, or full gestures. For the record, after a week, I love full gestures completely.
Just got the new Pixel. Pretty damn nice. But I will need a few weeks to truly rate it. EDIT: that face unlock ain't no joke!
this is how Google erodes trust. This is the first thing that crosses the line for me in the P4. Bad battery, ok, I can live with that. Motion Sense, eh, they'll come around. https://www.androidpolice.com/2019/11/03/pixel-4-has-usb-video-output-disabled-in-software/ TLDR: Google disabled USB DisplayPort Alt Mode on the P4. This feature allows one to run hdmi-out via type-c adapter.I used to use this regularly on my nexus devices. According to XDA, this feature is not only royalty free from Qualcomm, but also supported natively by default on the p4 chipset. If that is true, then google crippled a free, native feature..for seemingly no good reason. Android 10 even natively supports a basic desktop layout for external displays.. This just doesn't make sense. More info:
not available is not the same thing as its now built in and we removed it. displayport alt mode is relatively new (and better than the legacy hdmi/mhl out that was on early nexus devices).
Anyone use a non-chrome browser full time? It's been killing my battery lately, but I've never found a viable alternative
I was on Firefox for a long time but it really slowed down for me a few months back. Now I'm on Bromite and it's solid

sounds like the Pixel 4 has bad battery life, which really sucks because I wanted to get one. Fully charged Pixel 4 will be dead in 14 hours? The XL seems too big for me "For comparison, similarly sized iPhone 11 Pro lasts 32 hours and the Pixel 4 XL lasts 26 hours under similar conditions, while the majority of smartphones in 2019 can last at least 24 hours with heavy usage." https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2019/oct/31/google-pixel-4-review-battery-life-camera
Is Black Friday usually the best time for Pixel deals? Trying to decide if I should jump on the $200 off offer or not.

Yeah I now have two of these for free (Spotify gave me one, too). Not into the smart home stuff, might be Christmas gifts
I already have two Echos. I don't know what I will do with the Mini when it arrives, but I'll figure it out.
Anyone have a Galaxy S10 Plus? Seems like it has good battery life which is huge for me. Might be the only Android that appeals to me right now. If I don't upgrade to that I'm not sure what else could be an option Really sucks the Pixel 4 has terrible battery life
there are a lot of things you can do to stretch battery life the #1 in my experience is to stream media as little as possible. download podcasts and then play them locally with a lightweight app like foobar2k. sites like player.fm archive pretty much every podcast and they have direct download links
