Geez. Didn't think it could get worse. I thought they were allocating money to address the issue. Might be thinking of another city.

They have invested a ton of money into it. They have temporarily shut down the king st exit from 26 since 2017 as part of that project, so it’s not complete. They said it was way under budget.

They were raising a house like 8 feet in South of Broad when I was there in December. My brother and I talked to the engineer working on the house and he said they’ve done several projects like that. It was over near Colonial Lake. I couldn’t guess what that cost is.

Having done some development in the Charleston area, it is a civil engineering nightmare. Very little drainage and not enough topography to use the environment to help. Literally no where for the water to go. Best thing they could do would be install huge industrial pumps at the lowest points in the city and pump it straight into the rivers/ocean. Being on a peninsula at sea level is no bueno.

The West end development is making the cross town even worse. Who would've though that's what 900 billion tons of concrete and steel would do

I imagine that’s what they are doing. Not sure if it’s gonna help.

Yes. We've completely eradicated flooding in Charleston. Or at least we will as soon as Elizabeth Warren is elected. She's promised it to us.

Millers and daps are what's hot right now. If you haven't done Edmunds oast that would be what Id do. If you want to switch it up a little bit, Kwei Fei's szechaun/Chinese brunch is dope

I booked Edmunds because we never got there before leaving the south, will scope out the others too.

Thx bb. Think we're staying at Hyatt House which seems centrally located. Going to do a BBQ/brewery crawl on one day up at Lewis/etc.

I have to put in a shameless plug for Daps. It's owned by one of my good friends. Though I will admit, it is pretty damn good and I will never say no to mimosas on tap.

Any bars/night clubs in Charleston have games to play like shuffleboard, cornhole, ping pong, board games etc?

I played this game where you have to swing a washer on a string and try to get it to hang over a nail. No idea the name of the game or bar. HTH

So, we're looking for a place to watch the Bama game while we're in town. The Alumni watch parties have moved to Charleston Sports Pub, the James Island location. Looks pretty average, kinda out of our way, and small for a group of 10ish with whoever else may be there for the game.

Any good sports bar options? I know tattooed moose is supposed to be good, but their location near King St. looked like it has 1 TV, so idk.

Definitely don’t go to tattooed moose downtown for a football game. Charleston Sports Pub is better than the absolute dump it looks like on the outside but I’m sure someone here can recommend a much better spot.

Home Team downtown is a UGA bar but also arguably the best sports bar in the area.

Sullivan's is good too - it's just a lot smaller. Their food has gone steadily downhill outside of a few items but the bar scene is as good as ever.

Biergarten is a good choice if you're a douchebag.

    awesome

we had an airbnb downtown and it was perfect. could walk everywhere

halls chophouse was top notch and i highly recommend if you’re going to do one nicer meal

home team has the best wings i’ve ever had. the brisket was pretty solid too. we went to the one on sullivan’s island for lunch and then hit up some bars after for day drinking

we basically day drank all day friday and saturday and didn’t spend too much time at the bars later but we just walked up and down king st (?) and checked out a few different ones

Yeah. We have a 3 year old so there’s no reason to chance it. That’s a bad looking motherfucker, and it wouldn’t take much for a direct hit here. We’re in Hanahan, probably leaving tomorrow evening.

Don’t think I would leave but already had to leave this Wednesday to go out of town regardless. The uncertainty about the trajectory of the hurricane is definitely a little concerning.

I’m in Atlanta right now and heading back to Charleston tomorrow morning. Was lucky enough to be able to get supplies here since everything is probably sold out at home. Saw 26 is getting reversed sometime tomorrow so I’m hoping I can make it back ok.

26 was closed into Charleston as of 9AM this morning when I left. My understanding was the reversal had already happened this afternoon/evening.

Heading there with GF for a couple days just after Christmas. Any reccos on touristy places to visit or what's the best restaurants? We have rezzies for lunch (sadly) for Husk, and couldn't get into Fig. What else?

Really depends on what you are looking for. I am a lower-class food person so I can only suggest things like Lewis BBQ, Scott's BBQ, Leon's Oyster Shop, Minero (get the wings as an appetizer), and things of that nature. I will put in a shameless plug for a good friend's restaurant, Daps, for breakfast.

Leon’s is good but absurdly overpriced for what it is. Of course, that’s true for all of Brooks’ restaurants. I would certainly do Dap’s and both BBQ joints.

El Pincho is the best new spot for tacos downtown. I would also add Chubby Fish a!: Xiao Bao to the list. One is newer and one is perhaps the most consistently good place in town IMO.
