I thought they would win but I can’t believe it’s this much of a landslide. Exit poll says worse labour performance since 1935. Corbyn is just so incredibly unlikable. The refusal to acknowledge the anti-semitism hurt him but it’s not just that. People in England don’t want him to be their leader and that was clear as day well before this election. There were a lot of votes against corbyn versus people excited about Johnson. He should have never been the leader.

The problem in this political climate is that you have the right making bad faith accusations, and when the Left engages them w good faith arguments like acknowledging there are some issues - they get completely hammered for it.

    In this case -
There's no room for a nuanced debate , discussing problematic actions within the party, while pointing out a defense of palestine is not antisemetic. Because the second you acknowledge any issues - the right beats you over the head with it and portrays it as the left admitting theyre anti-semites.

The Right never gives a goddam inch. I dont know what the correct approach to combat it, but I know it's not to ignore transgression made by the left and just double down like conservatives.

It's times like this, where it feels like the only solution is to let politics run it's course. The right takes over, enacts horrendous polices and the public finally realizes it years and several election cycles too late. Then it takes a shitload of work to get back to where we are now, probably with a bunch of half measures that got here in the first place.

The left has obliterated corbyn on anti-semitism. 87% of British Jews think the leader of the Labour Party is anti-Semitic. That’s insane. This isn’t an Israel hate=anti-Semitic. He’s made an incredible amount of blunders on these issues. That said, it’s not all that. England has very few Jews compared to the US. Corbyn is extremely hard left. In order to win with that platform you have to be a polarizing figure who galvanizes the youth. Corbyn makes John Kerry look like Obama on steroids. He’s so unlikable and boring. A lot of labour voters don’t want him to lead England.

This is what scares me the most. So many people literally believe anything they read. They used to not read much so they got their info from the news stations, who in general reported the facts. Now they get it from 1) Fox News who just makes shit up and people believe it bc hey it's a news channel and 2) social media where anybody can post anything but unfortunately a lot of people don't realize that and actually believe it. I was back home a few weeks ago and in a conversation an aunt literally said "Why would someone take the time to make a lie? It must be true." I couldn't do anything but shake my head. idk what the answer is but the right has taken to using both to their advantage and it's working.

Yeah I think I’m gonna crawl back into my pre-2016 hole pretty soon. I think the corporate ownership of our comfort/health/freedom is really at a point that’s it’s revolution or bust and I’m a pacifist. The Bernie revolution was meant to give me hope but it’s never gonna happen when we are losing to the Donald Trumps of the world.

100% agreed though at this point, it's likely that so many people are going to experience the joys of privatization of their healthcare and they will wind up hating it. The media has to be responsible for covering who's fault that is though and at this point I'm full on agreeing with the leftists over there that their media is so much more cozy with their right-wing/upper-class establishment.

We can argue whether he's likable, and I'm sure lots of people believe he's anti-semitic but to say that's a fact is absolute BS. This is 100% a smear campaign against him because he's not full on backing Israel's awful war crimes, I just posted an article where you literally had a statue of a Nazi sympathizer being erected with a former Conservative PM looking on and they gained more seats so forgive me if I'm skeptical he's actually an anti-semite.

Its beyond incomprehensible to me how the voting public is so easily manipulated that they cant see the forest for the trees. Being unable to see what is occurring right in front of their fucking faces, and continuing to openly support it.

Heard two coworkers say today, "I hope Trump gets impeached so we can reelect him in November and the liberals can't do anything about it"

so those people are just terrible people

but theres almost a feedback loop to our political system in that it makes people work longer hours having less time to vet info so they make uneducated political choices benefiting the people lying who are also picking their pockets and destroying labor protections causing people to work even longer hours for less pay rinse repeat

haven't looked at all the numbers yet but saw early returns were pointing people towards the continued educational realignment in western countries largely around immigration restrictionism and anti minority/muslim/etc rhetoric/policies being a likely big chunk of that much like it's the singular best explanation for US realignment

I try not to draw too many parallels between their politics and ours but the whole Brexit issue makes their two major parties feel awfully similar to ours.

i have to keep myself from drawing too many because all the evidence and experts say it's really dumb to over write the narrative, especially when UK Cons are well to the left of the GOP and Labour is worlds left of the Dems (and Corbyn is much further left than even the Bernie/Warren wing). not even getting into the intricacies of Brexit and how it wasn't a cleanly partisan issue.

the Lib Dems are the best Dem comp and they evaporated completely

    also relevant

I think, as you said, the Lib Dems losing all the ground they gained is showing how the center is dying there and also here, even with the parties being different. I can't imagine how much the Conservatives are going to track to the right and get closer to the GOP if they're serious about privatizing their national healthcare.

as a polisci litmus test I think it’s definitely a mistake to try and port meaning from this into the U.S. national political structure. There’s just no comparable issue like Brexit, and this looks like pushback against Remoaners as much as anything else

And to think that Johnson was completely boxed in. He didn’t have the numbers to do anything, on Brexit or anything else. He couldn’t call an election without opposition voting for it, and they did.

Sounds like Luciana Berger, Jewish Mp who was hounded out of Labour and now standing for Lib Dems may win Thatcher’s old seat.
