I haven't followed recruiting for like 4 years but were we really losing recruits we wanted to Temple?
Idk probably. Or we were losing recruits to them that we should've been recruiting but Ash gave up on NJ
It used to be that almost every Schiano recruit had most of these same offers, if not more: Syracuse, Pitt, BC, Temple, Maryland, Virginia For the last 5 years or so that would be an upper tier commitment for us
I also haven't really followed recruiting since the early Flood years, so I might be off base here. But I just watched Chris Long's film and I don't understand why he isn't rated higher. This kid was too good for Temple.
I didn't even realize the younger Melton was in the 2020 class until today. The fact that Ash couldn't get a kid whose parents went here and whose older brother is still here is about all the evidence you need to realize how bad he was.
I don't know how Young repeatedly misses open guys, takes bad shots, misses open shots, and manages to get so much playing time
that game shouldn't have been close, but i'll take the w. i dont know how this wisconsin team beat down marquette as badly as they did.
To summarize the past two weeks: 1) Greg Schiano hired 2) Fran Brown hired 3) Victor Konopka commits 4) Tunde Fatukasi commits 5) Chirs Long commits 6) Max Melton commits 7) Robert Longerbeam commits 8) Tyreem Powell commits 9) Cedrice Paillant commits 10) We continue to own Wisky at the RAC 11) We demolish SHU in front of the largest RAC crown in almost two decades, with Omoruyi in attendance 12) Oh, and Panagos is back Yep.
The first 4 minutes of the SHU game were insane. The RAC was nuts. Hope you guys were there too. Spoiler we will probably lose to Lafayette now
I will use some weird analogy here: Jacob Young is closer to "very bad" than Yeboah is to "very good" but your point is taken and agreed upon.
Jacob Young is so bad. Good thing we passed on our malignant tumor to the #Texas Longhorns in return.
Many people have been asking me for a state of the basketball program post, so I must oblige: Last time I checked in with you all, I was very down on the squad and, quite frankly, it was justified. It seems as though the best case scenario is coming to fruition. We struggled out of the gate last year to weak competition that culminated with an all-time bad loss to a Fordham squad in front of >1,500 raucous A10 basketball fans in the Bronx (I was in attendance). We rebounded after that loss big time and I was very happy with the team's resilience. It seems that St. Bonaventure may have been our wakeup call. I was thinking we should be satisfied coming out of that 4 game gauntlet (Pitt, MSU, Wisc, SHU) at 1-3. Needless to say, we surpassed that. My goal this season was to better 7 conference wins through both regular season and the conference tourney and that is certainly on the table, but we're not going to have a whole lot of margin for error. Myles Johnson - Turning into a legitimate high major big. He's very tall, at least 6'10" and his wingspan is freakish. Tremendous rebounder and very skilled offensively. Love him. Caleb McConnell - He is one of my favorites. I have been very high on him since seeing his HS highlights. He still struggles with confidence and doesn't look nearly as fluid as he is capable of. He will continue to progress and will be an all conference type player. RHJr - He has undoubtedly progressed from last year, but he is still yet to come close to his ceiling. I expect him to step up in B1G play and be our #1 option. Geo - I was worried he had reached his potential, but he has had a very solid year and has improved. He just needs to have more jumpers drop - bottom line. Montez - I guess he's a good defender? He has no potential on the offensive side of the ball. None. Jacob Young - As has been discussed ad nauseam - he is very bad at basketball. Mulcahy - Everyone jumping off the Pauly Walnuts bandwagon is denied re-entry. Shaq Carter - Essentially useless besides a big body and giveable fouls. I will give him credit, he has a very nice touch on his shot. Yeboah - Very efficient ball player. Jack of all trades, master of none. Let's hope he can keep it up.
McConnell has turned into a significantly better player than I could have ever imagined. If he keeps progressing, he can be scary with his size.
