Had to fact check this amazing stat. I’m counting 2. Lakeem Rudolph (188th WR) to tech and Elijah Gaines (29 safety) to UVA. The potentially even more amazing thing is that they’ve combined to sign only 28 guys so far this year.
there was a debate about if gaines counts since he is from NY and is attending a va boarding school still absurd
my hot take is fuente takes another job after this season. they return nearly everything and should be pretty good. but recruiting how he is will absolutely tank a program and he should probably skip town before that comes to fruition in a few years a la dana and wvu
I would be surprised if Page was a take at Clemson. You're definitely getting Shipley unless McCaffrey talks him into Stanford.
They should be co favorites in 2020 for the Coastal division but they’ve recruited like shit for a couple years now. I think Fuente is a good game day and XOs coach but his recruiting is dreadful. Really interesting.
there has never been any loyalty to the in state programs. when i was a kid the best players went to UT, FSU, UGA, PSU, ND, or UM. this year is really bad. UVA should sign Lorenz Terry from Varina in February.
you'd have to go back to 2014 class to find a year more that 2 of the top 10 stayed in state. none of the top 10 in 2015 stayed in state. the end of the welsh era, combined with VIck/Beamer years were probably the best run the state had for keeping kids.
doeren is a dead man walking. recruiting (in-state particularly) is going to be a big struggle for state. good thing its not going to be during a year that sees the best collection of nc talent in decades or anything
We'll see, I think State makes a big rebound with next years team. Especially excited to see what the defense can do, that will do wonders for recruiting obviously.
Just reality. Why would a top 20 player in the country, especially a RB watching Etienne, go to NC State over Clemson? Just isn’t going to happen. The kid has 20+ family members that are State alumni and we aren’t viewed as the favorite. Kind of telling.
Were going to have a shit ton of talent through out the 2 deep. Our front six is going to be stacked and while most State fans will be rightfully worried about our secondary I think you'll see a huge improvement with bringing back 2 senior corners that were hurt all year, that I think are damn good.
Maybe to some extent, but how many 5*s have we landed in the past 10 years? Clemson got more yesterday. Just reality right now.
Even if we drastically improve (which I don't really see happening without us landing a grad transfer QB), most of the 2021 kids will know where they want to go before the season starts. 2021 will basically be a lost class.
having a small class will nullify a lot of the impact of its shittiness. we're off to a much better 2021 start and have one of the top dual-threats in the country on board already with more 4* kids expected between now and February or so. I also think a lot of the hires are being made to address the shittiness of recruiting so we'll see. don't see Fuente leaving of his own volition though, not with the buyout we have on him. VA kids are overrated as fuck anyway. 80+% that try to big boy VT and UVA go on to ride the pine and transfer at all these other programs because the quality of player is so much higher and Virginia is a mid-tier state for HS football. for every Harvin or Ferrell or Boyd there's like 10 guys who leave and are never heard from again.
That's a concern for sure, and if you don't have a successful season (at least 7 wins but probably more like 8) 100% DD has to go cause at that point I don't think there's anyway to get any momentum back.
I'm not sure how much any of it matters anyway unless we get rid of divisions. I guess we could get a really nice bowl game one day but Clemson isn't slowing down anytime soon.
state right now reminds me of unc at the end under fedora. its pretty clear the coach is toast but the school will try to change up the staff and hope for the best. just prolonging the inevitable
I still don't see Des as OC next year. Guess we will find out soon enough. At this point, I think it'd be surprising if we aren't looking for a coach next December.
At the rate Dabo is saving young men from hell I can only imagine he’ll be recalled to the orange slide in the sky pretty soon. Maybe that’s our chance.
We cleaned up in Virginia with Mike London as head coach and fat lot of good that did us. For once I agree with the sex monkey - Most of the big guys we've been able to get out of Virginia have been overrated anyway. Da'Shawn Hand totaled 70 tackles and 9 sacks at Alabama. Quin Blanding didn't make the NFL and Andrew Brown is clogging a roster spot on the worst team in the league. Just a couple examples of many.
i actually think doeren can run a decent program. just doesn't have the connections to keep a good staff with him. i think those are separate aspects of being a HC, and i'm also cautious of dying on this hill when you are probably just trolling state fans.
i am not trolling at all. doeren is not a good coach and that program is trending down. their recruiting is suffering and they have a lame duck head coach. its just like unc at the end of fedora. only thing is, who is their mack brown to come and revive things? besides bill cowher obviously
I definitely hope we can secure the border a little more - I like having Virginia kids on our roster. It still grinds my gears that we lost Russell Wilson. I'm just saying it's not critically important.
Doeren's made some really good initial hires. Drinkwitz at OC, Dwayne Ledford at OL, and Ryan Nielsen at DL. All 3 have moved onward and upward in the last 2 years and the replacements have just been lacking. He held on to Huxtable at DC for 2 years too long and that's what is going to cost him in the end since no good DC is going to come to a program that could easily be wiped clean after 1 season. Hence the Tony Gibson promotion from within. I was hoping Drink would last 1 more year at App so we could give him a call but the SEC is full of deep wallets and shallow minds.
just like larry with anderson and littrell. and then him holding onto kap and papuchis too long as coordinators which ultimately sank him
I honestly think Doeren is a better program builder than Fedora, but he isn't as good of a Xs and Os guy (offensively anyway). We've got more depth and talent in the program than any time since the late Rivers years but it all fell apart this year due to youth and injury, and the slope is slippery.
Clemson has done pretty good in spot recruiting the state of VA. We are never going to be some overarching presence there, but most of the recuits we've got from the state have gone on to good college careers.
