Ozymandias was the Greek name for Rameses II. I always had a minor quibble with that in the graphic novel. Veidt is the world's smartest man, but he generates the world's most obvious password. Just finished since I hate waiting for episodes and wanted to watch it all at once. Was blown away. The opening sequence was incredible, and it's awesome that they're calling attention to an ugly bit of history that was essentially buried until very recently
With Dark, ST3 and Watcmen I really believe this was one of the more enjoyable years of television I’ve ever had. Watchmen just put the nuclear cherry on the sunday
Thinking about this again and how it makes zero sense. Dr Manhattan doesn’t have machinations, he’s a passive character. Be a watchmaker? Okay? Nah, a physicist? Sure. End Vietnam? I guess. Judge Veidt for killing millions? Pass.
Yea. Seemed reserved to just let it all happen when I think it was within his power to destroy the cavalry and lady t. I guess he was just tired of existing?
Whats the doomsday clock general premise? DM learned how to travel to different universes and time so he goes to the DC universe to try and break Superman’s link with humanity to make him more like himself?
Not at all. He traveled to explore the “main” DC continuity and figure out why there were so many inconsistencies. He basically discovered the entire multiverse revolves around Superman.
On vacation and just spent the whole day binge watching the season. Just fucking outstanding. Irons, Smart, King, everybody needs to win all the awards. This series was 99% perfection
But he didn’t. He’s living every moment simultaneously so his choice is always influenced on past, present and future decisions.
You know I always assumed Judd Crawford was the only dress-blues, mask-less cop for public optics but obviously it’s because the Kavalry wouldn’t fuck with him. And it really is a testament to Don Johnson’s likability* that he could play such a warm and caring character in the first few episodes then the onion is peeled and you realize everything he was doing was sinister as fuck. *denotes hating children, the elderly, and dogs
Rewatching now and all the signs were there with Cal. After he gives his kids the matter-of-fact explanation of what happened to Uncle Judd, he asks if they want waffles. For non-book readers, Dr. Manhattan was famous for making waffles.
One cool little bit of film magic that I enjoy is that Tulsa, Hoboken, Saigon, and NYC are all a repurposed Decatur, Georgia town square. You’ve probably only ever heard of it in rap songs but it’s actually a lovely little municipality five miles east of downtown ATL.
I didn't read/watch anything before this show, but I asked my wife if there was something weird with Cal when they showed him standing over the guy who shot Angela in their house. They never went back to it until Angela brought him back and said he reflexively channeled his powers and zapped the guy before he could finish her off.
Buddy of mine were watching episode where Carter goes into the Dr Manhattan booth and noticed a building with Iberian Pig on it and we're like "Hey, thats funny" thinking it was just random. Later in the episode when she left we realized it was actually Iberian Pig restaurant in Decatur. Love that area.
You can see Brick Store in the background a lot too and where June has the heart attack is that little pullover by the Marta right in front of Cakes and Ale.
I didn't realize all those other ones. I only noticed that certain spot in the square. I'll need to keep an eye out on my rewatch.
Watched the second half of the season tonight. Holy shit what a fucking show. Watched the first few with the wife and she thought it was too weird. Gonna make her rewatch cuz the payoff is worth it.
Gotta respect it. He probably could’ve cashed a big check but instead he’s gonna die with one of the greatest seasons of television and an absolute masterful love letter to those of us who fell in love with this universe and characters as part of his legacy.
Feels like the author didn't really watch the show if they thought it ended on a cliffhanger. Everything was tied out perfectly within itself and the comic. There really couldn't be a 2nd season in that timeline imo
Watched the movie last night. That was a heavily abridged version of the book. It was fine, but it makes me appreciate the series a lot more
