I’m really excited to see what’s up with this. Never read the books but the games absolutely put forward one of the most memorable fantasy worlds I’ve ever immersed myself in. Should scratch that early game of thrones titty itch pretty regularly as well. Later this year.
A really quick and basic take would be if you took an R-rated version of Harry Potter (magic, sorcerers, spells) and mixed it with Game of Thrones (violence, sex, power struggles, malevolent forces set on domination) and then add a wide variety of monsters and creatures of legend. Books are great. Games are great. Casting and previews have the Netflix series looking like it should be solid as well.
Don’t touch Roach is a cool way to end that trailer but I really hope they understand that the vast majority of the flock that will come into this series probably hasn’t read a single book. Seeing that trailer emphasize a large scale battle and not have a single monster i it doesn’t get me as pumped as I’d like to be
That’s kind of what GoT did. They kept the magical stuff low key until they hooked their audience. Hopefully this has the monsters and magic but not showing it in the trailer to hook a more wise viewership.
Fair enough but magic I think is a little more prominent in the witcher and his actual job is to hunt monsters. I’m watching regardless tho and as long as it’s good I’ll be happy. I just worry about the horde
Spoiler so the woman who jumped out of the window in episode 1 is the same woman who's throwing a party in episode 4? wtf is the timeline jumping around and shit?
Yeah they’re doing the whole timelines aren’t in order thing. It’ll make more sense as the episode’s go on though but I wish they'd say how long ago some stuff happened and where the story currently is
I'm here for this. Will be watching over the holidays for sure. Need to pick The Witcher III back up.
If you like this kind of story setting, The Witcher universe is fantastic. I played Witcher 3 (and holy shit was I lost when I started that game) so Ep1 wasn’t quite as confusing and I am enjoying it. My wife, who isn’t a fantasy nerd and has no familiarity with the story, is pretty confused so far. Reddit folks say it picks up after a few episodes so might be worth sticking around for a couple more eps and see how you like it.
My big issue was the fact apparently like a century goes on between the stories and you'd have no clue unless you pay attention
This will follow the books. If you played Witcher 3 like I did, all this stuff is basically a Prequel and happens way before W3. Spoiler And Ive read that multiple timelines are going on kinda like what Nolan did with Dunkirk.
Your spoiler is hinted at when Ciri talks to her grandma at the dinner, and then renfri confeonts Geralt at the stream. I think at least.
Spoiler As of Ep 4, yup there are multiple timelines going on concurrently. This will be confusing AF.
Gotta say, the actress who plays Yennefer is straight fire. Especially after what I’ve seen in episode 5.
Agreed. Extremely difficult to tell which time frame different segments take place because the show gives absolutely no frame of reference. Just expects you to understand based upon characters who died earlier in the season and what not.
I can follow it having played the games and read the books but they definitely need to give people some indication they are jumping around in time. It will become clear by the end but still.
2 episodes in and if this is pretty terrible so far. The Yen stuff is the only thing saving it for me
Spoiler: Spoilers through Ep3 So Yenn’s timeline is ~30 years before Geralt’s, and Geralt’s is ~15 years before Ciri’s.
I’m enjoying it I am surprised they stayed pretty consistent with the games for the main characters’ appearance but made a deviation for Triss. I haven’t read the books so maybe there’s room for artistic license.
Originally the girl they cast to play Ciri was black but she actually died before filming so they had to recast. Personally was not a fan of the Triss casting at first but she grew on me. Anything that looks significantly different from the games throws me a bit since that's my point of reference.
Yes, same. Witcher 3 is definitely a top 5 all time game for me. I am on episode three and it is coming together a bit. Took me awhile to realize that was Yennifer.
It is mainly stuff from the two collections of short stories and not the 5-book story arc. Also I'm ok with the Triss we ended up getting. Like what the girl from arrested development could've grown up to be.
God i love that they start out with the Butcher of Blaviken story. always wanted to know more about that.
I’m though four. It definitely gets so much better. I’m still confused as to who is who. Is the Striga someone from the story? I’m trying to put together all of the people, and I’m struggling with who it is. If we learn later don’t spoiler it. I’m just trying to figure out if I am supposed to know already.
