The Witcher

Read it could be 2021 before we get another season.

 

If they make the wait worth it I'm okay with that.

While I enjoyed the season the production value is not always top notch.

 

seems like its small budget for a show like this.

 

Hopefully this season is a hit and they can put some more money into it.

At times the show looks really good. The striga fight comes to mind. But at times it looks like a CW show.

 

I’m going to read the first book before I watch. Should I read more than the first? Are there story lines from later books that are brought forward for the show?

 

This first season is mostly an amalgamation of the short stories as I understand it with some of the stuff from the main saga mixed in.

 

I have no idea what the budget is, but there were times where it did feel a little thin. I am still only through 4 episodes, but some of the scenes felt like they had more budget than others. For example the juxtaposition of Jennifer's transformation with Geralt releasing the curse from Adda's daughter seemed higher quality than the interaction with the devil creature. That said, I think GoT's added to the budget as it became more popular. This is certainly not as bad as The Legend of the Seeker, which was goofy and Kevin Sorbo Hercules level silly.

 

LOL, I just used that as an example also. I thought that entire scene was super well done and it was that point where I decided I was bought into the show.

 

The lighting in that scene was top notch. At times it's almost soap opera level it seems.

 

totally agree. at least they’ve nailed the universe and most of the characters so i can look past the obvious “this was taped in a studio” moments that are a lot of. Hopefully they can get a bigger budget to make it look the way it should.

 

Did any of you guys ever read the Sword of Truth series and then watch the Legend of the Seeker? That to me is the benchmark for what this can't be and so far it is quality enough for me to not be distracted.

 

Only 3 episodes in and maybe it’s Yen’s deformity but some of the dialogue is tough to make out. Not sure if that’s just me

I started watching everything with subtitles. Started with Peaky and liked it so much I've never stopped.

 

Maybe it's because I have relatives that are Australian and English but I never really have trouble with accents. Yen was a little tough at times because she has that mouthpiece in.

 

It's not just you. The sound quality varies and isn't always easily to make out. It seemed like it got better after the 3rd or 4th episode.

 

The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny are the two that most of the episodes are based around.

Thought the show really hit its stride once the timelines started to converge. I will definitely rewatch once or twice.
Some of the special effects could use some work, but I can get over that.
Having read everything and played the games, I thought they put together a great cast. Cavill is phenomenal as Geralt.

 

Really enjoyed how the plot picked up and wove into a story.

It’s worth the rewatch alone just to understand the timeline sequencing from the jump.

There’s some great fight sequences and settings. I have only watched some people play the game on Twitch years ago but it seemed really character and plot driven and I’m happy the show reflects that.

I am actually thinking about doing a replay of W3. The world is absolutely massive and the graphics were way ahead of it's time. I tried to get into 1 and 2 but they just don't compare.

 

It's the best game of this generation in my opinion. Maybe my favorite game ever made. I've played through it so many times.

 

I agree it is awesome, but I don't think i can choose between that and the half life series, original Far Cry, Skyrim, and the fallout series.

Quality of dialogue was also pretty meh.

 

stick with it. It works and is pretty appropriate for the material it's based on.

 

Finished it tonight, what a great show. Having only played Witcher 3 and not read the books, they’ve only scratched the surface of what the show can be.

 

I own The Withcher 3 but haven't played it yet.

Do I have to play/be good at the Gwent game, in game, to enjoy it?

 

No, there is one interesting quest behind it but that's it.

 

It's easy to learn and actually pretty good. You just have to win the right cards in different quests.

 

I finally finished last night. I think they did a very good job of telling the story. Production values were uneven, as discussed. Definitely a bit frustrated by the end given the amount of time we have to wait. Overall totally bought in though.

 

I was too drunk during the tutorial and didn’t understand how the game worked so I never played it

 

By the end I was really disappointed it was over. Can't wait for more.

 

8 episodes wasn’t nearly enough.

 

On episode 5, completely new to Witcher anything. I’m a fan so far. I like the way each episode is basically a new side story, but I assume as it goes forward it’ll be more focused on an overall cohesive story and will have less of the “side missions”, or is that sort of the point?

 

The first season is essentially the prologue. It's kind of just establishing the characters.

 

It's hard to say what the point is, but they used each of the stories to weave together one cohesive plat that comes together by the last episode.

 

Finished it up last night; loved it.

Played and loved Witcher 2 and 3.

Fiance has no idea what The Witcher is, but she was asking me a few nights if we could watch an episode before bed. She's a reader, bet I could convince her to read the books.

 

Like others have said the first two episodes were tough sledding. But picks up and I really enjoyed it. Jaskier has some great lines.

 

This show has me back playing Witcher 3 for the hundredth time. Feels good.

 

Critics whiffed on this one.

It’s not gonna win any emmys but it’s fun and entertaining
