Do not spend $2k on a Hamilton... that's crazy talk. Just get one of the regular Black Bay variants, if you are worried about the size on your wrist. The BB58 is merely a scaled down version, meant for pencil wrists like myself
That's a really nice watch and looks great, but there are a lot better options in that price range, especially if you look into something used.
I know, I just have a little over 2k burning a hole in my pocket....I figured someone would remind of what you and Jorts said. I think I'm going to get the Tudor Heritage Black Bay M79230N-0009 after my annual ebitda bonus comes in. I'd consider the Tudor GMT also but I don't think you can get that for low 3s now.
I was at the store picking up something for my wife and tried on the BB58. I think I have to have it now.
Yes. If you can’t find a GMT, have them order it direct from Tudor... just don’t expect any reduction on the price on an order
cool thank you. I just noticed some are for sale for more than retail online. I’d like the Rolex but I’m not paying extra to get a watch from the grey market or wait for years. Just looked there’s an AD in the mall.
I’ve had better luck reaching out to out of state ADs. My local dealers seem to forget we live in a global market. Definitely check out the local AD, but call around when you know what you want.
I see several Submariners daily. I might see a Yachtmaster monthly. The decision is easy, then you add Rhodium to the equation & it's a no-brainer
That is precisely my thinking. It's very unique and I love that it's only 11+mm thick. It has been impossible trying to find one either new or used to view in person in the NYC diamond district. I have seen the blue dial and it looks cheap as all hell imo.
I haven't paid attention to this thread a ton but i was unaware Tag gets rightfully shit on. Why? My wife got me a Carrera as a wedding present and i fucking love it.
In a nutshell: Tag Heuer constructs its watches from a variety of sources, which means the consumer is buying a name rather than a unique timepiece. It also defies the price point of the brand but highlights effective marketing.
Further clarity: They put out movements similar to what Tissot & Hamilton put out, yet charge 2-3x those brands. They are good watches, but offer perhaps the worst value proposition in the industry. They market to those that don't know, or care & just want the "status" of the brand. I own one, that my ex-wife gifted me for these reasons...
I would fall in the don't care bucket probably. I don't wear it a ton as it's by far the most expensive one i own but i love the look. I wear my Eco drive and my Police more since I don't worry as much about damage to them (rightfully or not).
It came down to this or a Breitling but I I didn't have a brown band watch and the Breitling was a black band. In the end I'm sure I could have found a better one like you said but it was partly the fact that she knew I've wanted a Tag since I was like 18. I want a Shinola too but she bought her ex husband one of those so it may dredge up bad memories lol.
It's been covered in here before, but don't pay retail for Shinola. It's another example of nice watch, but a terrible value proposition. Their price-point puts them up against entry/mid-models for Tissot, Seiko, Hamilton & Oris. They are essentially marked up Fossil watches with a cool "Made in Detroit" back-story. Their quartz watches are a good value at the $100-200 range, but similarly to Tag, you're paying a premium for their marketing efforts. I'm pretty certain you can get them deeply discounted on Nordstrom Rack and/or other similar discount retailers. Them charging $1k+ for their automatics should be criminal
The dealer is going to have that and the Sub waiting for me tomorrow to choose from. I gave him a $500 deposit and he went and got it through some back channel because apparently they're very scarce right now. Somehow trading my Deepsea for a $160 net loss since I bought it 8 months ago.
That would vary depending on the price-point & function. I tend to prefer watches with some kind of history, or story behind them. I also prefer something that I don't see on other wrists (hence my avoidance of Rolex, although I recognize their quality). Despite being a cunt... One of my favorite & most worn watches is a Swatch Sistem51, that I got for $150 (1st mechanical watch completely assembled by machine). Ironically, I get more interest & comments on the Sistem51 than my Speedy. Spoiler
The first thing that comes to mind when i hear swatch is the clear blue swatch watch i had when I was 12. Pretty much this watch but different color scheme:

I got lazy including the DateJust, as I’d certainly opt for something else, but that’s the only Rolex I’d consider
