I think it was Entertainment Weekly caught hell because they admitted to not even watching all of it before reviewing it.
I get the show started a little slow but so did the Mandalorian and people were fucking raving about that. Seems like a double standard. Almost like people wanted to hate this because they think it's a GoT knock off or something. Or they are still mad at GoT. I don't know.
Ehh it took me till the second half of the season for both the Witcher and the Mandolorian for me to come around. I’m also not paid to review TV shows and if I were I’d certainly finish them first
It’s funny you say that because the game Witcher 3 is famous for the number of side quests. It definitely helps flesh out the world a bit for the show, and some of the missions pay dividends at the end.
Just finished, thought it was fantastic. Only thing I’ll add is some of his special abilities and such could be explained a bit, much like the timeline. Wife was asking me what was that, a few times and I can understand why. Had W3, going to read the books as well. Also team sub-titles for everything that’s binged. Biggest issue we have is when people quiet talk or whisper and you cannot understand a fucking word they say.
There was definitely a lot of quiet talking. Yes, they could have explained a Witcher's powers and use of potions a bit more.
That’s a lot to assume when you ask a novice to invest 8 hours into something. Brings up another point, the dialog could improve dramatically. I’m not shitting on it because I am a fan and I really enjoyed it. But say this was HBO, they absolutely overfill you with dialogue to fill up space. At times it can feel tedious, but it’s almost always beneficial. This could benefit from more meaningful dialog Imo.
Haven’t read to avoid spoilers, but watched episodes 1-4 last night and I’m hooked. I think the show has massive potential.
I just decided to check on Witcher 2. I tried playing Witcher 1 a couple of years back after Witcher 3 and it was just too much of a step back. Witcher 2 is actually pretty good.
Through episode 4 and curious if anyone on the internet has documented how many times Geralt says Hmm. In the show. It’s turning into an Owen Wilson “Wow” for the GF and me when we watch.
Yeah the timeline stuff is kind of confusing until it’s starts piecing together towards the last couple episodes.
The funny thing is that as long as you are aware of the timeline change, when you look back the story is pretty simple.
Rewatch helps Picked up on timeline change in first ep when Renfri says Queen Calanthe of Cintra just won her first battle glad I stopped after a couple episodes
Episode 3, young Foltest and sister get scolded at the ball so 3 different time frames, 1 each for geralt, ciri and yen
Finished e6 the dragon episode was eh but overall show is exceeding my expectations nonstop fire slaps right here
I would like to see a bunch of bands do a cover of this song, but I hate to say that I actually really like this. edit: I guess they have.
Burned thru this in the last week; loved it once I realized there are multiple timelines. Love the utter lack of lawful good types.
Finished it last night. I think my wife is even more pissed than me that we have to wait at least a calendar year for new episodes.
Stopped watching after the first two eps and read the books they’re based on. Made the show much easier to follow. good stuff
I did appreciate that the first season was for all intents and purposes a series of short stories for geralt, a prologue for Ciri and an origin story for Yen a lot of setup executed very well
I finished the season today. I enjoyed it. I had never played the games and haven’t read the books yet, so I didn’t really know what to expect. I thought it got stronger as the season went. I didn’t really have trouble following the plot, but I’d seen that it skipped around with timelines beforehand so that may have helped. I bought the first short story collection so looking forward to learning more. Better than expected imo.
This show reminds me of like the live action Hercules or Xena being suddenly time warped into the modern show era. Unapologetically fantasy based
Holy shit...I said almost the exact same thing to my wife about this last night. I thoroughly enjoyed.
Yes I also mentioned it earlier in the thread. I think the dialog and some of the weaker special effects gave it a more modern campy vibe, but it was above that level for sure.
7.5/10, certainly not my favorite fantasy show but I'm in for the long haul. I'm quite attracted to Tissiai
