Oof. Morini, Salt Line, Whaley’s, Chloe, and District Winery are all good food spots within a five minute walk, but other than the tv at the bar at Morini, I don’t know what the game watching situation is. Due South might also be an option; it’s good but not in the same category as the others.
I just grabbed another Uber to church key because I didn’t want to miss the end of your game. It’s perfect
Church key is fine. You could prob go to players club too, but their TVs actually kinda stink at the bar itself.
Was taken to dinner by some friends/people I do business with at Chloe in Navy Yards. Tremendous. Just FYI
Had to metro home to make sure the basement wasn't flooding (almost was) and then on the metro ride back I fully expected the train to be a goddamn gondola
I walk in to work. Made it a block from my apartment with a golf umbrella and rain jacket and I was still soaked. Decided I'd rather be a couple hours late than sit in wet pants all day.
Rain amounts never met much to me until someone told me that an inch of rain is about a foot of snow. Imagine getting dumped with 2 feet of snow in half an hour.
Weird things about living in DC: There’s a secret service detail standing silently with their arms crossed outside my dentist’s office
Extremely fucked. We were looking at houses in that neighborhood a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure why this isn't getting as much press as the jogger in Logan Circle... it's not that much further north.
Per the comments in that article there is a crime epidemic and everyone should move out of DC. Even Afghanistan is safer.
I live near Park View. There are definitely some drug addled crazies around there but not stab-you-to-death-while-walking-the-dog crazy.
I am pushing the fiancee to buy in the Park View/south Petworth area. She isn't a huge fan... she specifically said she wouldn't want to walk the dog around there when we walked around to a couple open houses a few weeks ago. This definitely isn't helping.
Is there a motive in this crime? I googled the alleged murderer's name, and, presuming it's the same person, he was like valedictorian of his HS and was a college student at Wisconsin or something. So... mental illness? When the murder of the jogger happened in front of the Chinese place at P and 11th last summer (which, I lived across the street from at the time and might have walked right by the murderer 5 minutes before it happened) the guy was high on synthetic drugs.... which, you would think the city would at least try to clamp down on a little given that there's people openly and brazenly selling it 24/7 at P and North Capitol.
No motive. I'm not sure who you found on google, but I read that he was a 24 year old local who was reported missing and the missing persons report mentioned something about him needing medication. So I think it was mental illness.
According to the link below, he had been reported missing at one point a couple years ago and the missing persons notice stated that he “may be in need of medication.” That could be anything (insulin, etc.), but he very well could have a mental condition. The lack of robbery or sexual assault motive, that they apparently didn’t know each other, and that apparently nothing lead to the attack (e.g., an argument) also point in that direction. So sad for that poor woman, who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. https://www.google.com/amp/s/heavy.com/news/2019/08/eliyas-aregahegne/amp/
The guy who got "Taxation Without Representation" on our license plates has died. https://www.washingtonpost.com/loca...519a70-de0d-11e9-be96-6adb81821e90_story.html
Can I buy weed here recreationally? Can someone please point me to one near Arlington? The websites are confusing me and I’m about to start driving
No - Laws are a bit confusing but basically possession is legalized but sales are not. So it's not illegal to hold it, but it is illegal to sell it. I understand some places get around this by selling you a "souvenier" like a sticker for $20 and "gifting" a baggie of weed, but I'm not cool enough to know how/where that happens.
it's been a minute since i used a service (they change their names and such) but I can give you a couple of links... but not while I'm at work.
I’ve been to more Nats games than any other MLB franchise, so I’m counting this one as a win for me, personally. Thank you for the well-wishes TMB, it was a long hard road but I persevered.
Hey Fellas, coming to visit next month at some point. What part of town would you recommend staying? GF wants to hit your typically touristy museum stuff, I’m more interested in eating and drinking.
We did a weekend away from the kids, but in town last year here: https://wharfintercontinentaldc.com/ If it suits your budget it was very nice. The whole Wharf development is fairly ridiculous, with at least 6-7 restaurants worth a visit. Also a world-class concert venue in The Anthem. We've been down there for ~10-15 shows and it never disappoints. Walkable to the Mall/museums as well. If not there, then echo the calls for City Center or Chinatown.
So we love italian food and ramen. Trying to lock down places that are solid enough that I can get reservations. For 3 dinners looking at Le Diplomate, Sfoglina and Daikaya. Somewhere else that is a must visit? For lunch have heard that District Taco is good.
Those are solid dinner spots. District Taco is meh, I wouldn't put it in top 5 taco spots in the city and even that is probably too high. Lunch will depend on where you're staying/what you're doing that day.
Do Taco Bamba if you’re looking for a taco lunch place. The restaurant in the African American History museum is supposed to be pretty good if you’re there during lunch time
