Interested in others opinions of above....the article seems to make it sound like he came close to getting away with it. But, it would seem to me that it was bound to be figured out somehow. If any of these clients ever were going to send money for something new there is a very high chance they would ask "Should we send the money to the Kings or the Sacramento Partners"...doesn't seem like something you could just safely leave behind and not worry about constantly.
Yeah, it was going to come out eventually. It would have 100% been discovered when the payments that were adjusted by $500K came due in a few years at the latest. His plan to set-up a company to pay the difference had zero chance of working. It was just a matter of time.
Somehow missed Colloff doing it again. Our justice system is so fucked. https://www.propublica.org/article/...-testimony-could-soon-send-a-man-to-his-death
If you've seen It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood this article will interest you -- the movie is based on the guy who wrote it. https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/tv/a27134/can-you-say-hero-esq1198/
That is some scary, awful shit. He should have done something else to verify what was going on, but in his place I'm not sure I would have been thinking clearly enough for that either.
Yea my first thought was "damn, that dude is gullible" but in the moment I'm sure you're freaking out and not thinking rationally
yep. he did what i would have done was to google the #, which of course was spoofed, but I think I would have at least called the police station and asked to speak to the cop that had called me. Fucked up either way though. Dude was probably blackout drunk at some point and figuring he could have said anything to the chick, but still. Damn that's gotta be hard to take for his family. I don't think I could ever kill myself, thinking of all the damage I would do to whoever I was leaving behind.
one of the more infuriating articles i have read https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2020/01/20/how-far-can-abused-women-go-to-protect-themselves

That is fukkin awesome that that article lead to justice being served. that journalist should feel great
That's what I was thinking. Also, how did the armored cars not have some camera or recording device? They just took tons of money on several occasions and avoided trouble by playing dumb.
In 2005, would it have been feasible to have enough memory in an onboard computer to store video, even like an hour's worth? And how much would it cost to outfit an entire fleet of vehicles? And I assume these companies' business models have a bit of loss baked into the equation considering they aren't exactly paying for the best and brightest employees.
Good points. It just seems ridiculous that $1.5M could vanish and the driver gets away with it because he's handcuffed inside the truck.
Extremely interesting.... https://www.washingtonpost.com/grap...ity/cia-crypto-encryption-machines-espionage/
That article seems like a good plot for a bad movie. The family sounds extremely white trash as well. Too bad the hard worker who kept to himself is the one to go.
Watts is from south Texas. Everyone down there knew this was happening and when he decided to represent himself knew he would get off he has some of the best bullshit in the country and juries eat it up. Similar to BUstang ’s boss
I think I posted this article a year ago or so, but another good article from Wired on a computer virus. https://www.wired.com/story/notpetya-cyberattack-ukraine-russia-code-crashed-the-world/
Great article although I feel like the headline is kind of bullshit. He did save us from wannacry but got arrested for separate crimes he admits committing. They make it seem like he was arrested for a good deed which is most certainly not the case
