Was hoping we get someone to unseat Mitch if things went bad, also someone who hasn’t had 17 surgeries in 2 years on his leg. Nagy going all in on KC lite (without Reid, Mahomes, Kelce, and Hill)
If I saw right they have to pay his signing bonus and if he was traded the new team would have to pay $14 million (I think).
PFF O-Line ranking: 25. CHICAGO BEARS The Bears took an expected step backward this season, spearheaded by regression in volatile areas from Mitchell Trubisky. Part of that decline, though, was worse play from the offensive line. When the Bears allowed pressure this season, they allowed it fast. Their average time to pressure allowed of 2.37 seconds was 29th in the league, ahead of only the Dolphins, Chargers and Falcons. A silver lining for the group came from James Daniels after he switched over to left guard. Daniels’ 73.9 overall grade at left guard ranked fifth among all qualifiers at the position.
https://sportsmockery.com/2020/01/pro-bowl-te-sends-chicago-bears-cryptic-instagram-message/ Ebron was college teammates with Mitch for a year, will be a FA in March. I’d take him on a deal.
Hell yeah. Knew they were going to do whatever it took to get this done. Since it’s an extension there’s some way they can roll a part of the cap hit into last years free space according to Hub.
I love A-Rob but i'm not sure he's gonna be worth #1 WR money. I would be willing to wait till after the off-season to figure out a contract with him.
Some really good fa TEs this year on the market also in the draft you can find good talent. With what we are paying Burton and not being able to really get off that till next year I would imagine committing to another big dollar deal to that position doesn't make much sense. I think we go the draft route to fill the hole behind Burton
Yeah you’re probably right, if we could get Ebron fairly cheap I’d be willing to go OL, Edge in the 2nd though
Thinking if you make that move now like you did with Eddie you’re going to stay on top of the huge cap bump the league is supposed to get this year and probably next.
We play UDFA at TE more than we do our big free agent or 2nd round pick Hopefully we are thrifty at TE
The first isn't by choice. Still can't go into next season banking on a guy who's been injured for the better part of a year and half to be what you originally envisioned for this offense.
I think a week or two back he made a tweet along the lines of “I played every snap in my final game and was then added to the IR. I get the point.” He knows his body just doesn’t have it anymore.
No clue if they know anything but I guess they posted the same a day or two before Castillo was announced:
Interesting, but it seems like Bienemey isn’t getting a HC spot this offseason so Nagy might want Kafka over Shurmer anyways.
This, I only wanted Shurmur to take over the offense, develop the QB position, and help Nagy develop as a play caller. If Nagy isn’t giving up any duties it’s all for not...
That wasn’t a realistic expectation. Nagy isn’t going to allow someone to come in here and call plays. If he goes down it’s going to be with him at the helm of the offense.
this year, next year, doesn't matter, this is a 6ish win team next season. Next season is Nagy’s last.
You guys are being a bit harsh. I think it’s fair to allow him the retool to the staff and see what happens. I don’t think he’s being fired unless we are looking at a 4 win season. But as I posted about I think this team is gonna bounce back
I know, I was hoping he’d want a fall guy at worst which in turn would be better for the team long term...but you’re right.
I also think we’re better than a 6 win team and I’ll give Nagy credit that he kept the team together. He’s also got to improve as a play caller, next year should be interesting.
I understand the desire to see him shake it all the way up. But he’s a Andy Reid guy. I watched Andy refuse to give up play calling for years and years during his run in Philly. Nagy is going to be the type to be fired for his play calling vs putting it in someone else’s hands. Right or wrong that’s who he is. Let’s hope the hires around him this offseason can help coach up this offense.
The defense is going to be top 5-8 again. We honestly need our offense to go from bottom 10 to mid pack and we’re talking playoffs again.
I was hoping for Shurmur because he’s a proven play designer and he’s experienced and would be a voice of dissent in that offensive coaching room when Nagy would be stubborn. I’m afraid Kafka will be another ‘yes man’ that thinks it’s cool to pretend the Bears are the Chiefs and have an all pro tight end, all pro wide receiver, top 5-10 line, and future HoF QB.
This X100, as soon as Nagy realizes this team is built more like Tennessee than KC the more successful we’ll be...I’m not holding my breath.
Was thinking of this the other day: Kelce 97 rec, 1229 yards Ertz 88 rec, 916 yards Goedert 58 rec, 607 yards Burton 14 rec, 84 yards Perkins 9 rec, 87 yards Bell 8 rec, 67 yards This offense is TE reliant, KC and Phi 3rd stringers had as much production as our top yardage guy.
yeah I wouldn’t either. He’s going to want to push the offense. I think the total loss of Burton hurt this offense more than we could’ve imagined. The new hire at TE coach would lead me to believe we will be taking a TE very early in the draft.
Which still doesn’t solve the QB, OL, and WR problem. We’ve got too many holes on offense and not enough cap space to fill them with the offense Nagy thinks he’ll run. If we had a Vrabal that would pound the rock and play good defense we could easily be a 10-6 team. I’m thinking square peg, round hole...another 8-8 (give or take a game) season.
QB, TE, OL seem like we have to go FA plus draft pick at those 3. Then figure out what to do with edge and safety.
Listened to a podcast the other day that said they think pace will offer Floyd a longer term deal for less money to save cap space. I get it but I’m not sure I like it.
Not an expert but to me his strengths are his speed, explosion, and length but he goes square into the tackle negating all of those like 9 times out of ten. He was much improved vs the run this year. But the #9 overall pick should get more than 1 sack post week 1 in his fourth year. At this point seems like another Pace round 1 miss.
You could sign Mariota and Glasgow. That takes care of two major issues. Draft a TE and not sure what they do with that other 2nd. Could go Edge, WR, CB or S. I thought we would bring back Ha Ha but I could see the Bears wanting to put Jackson back at free safety and pair him with a more in the box safety
I don’t see how you can commit long term to him. If he ends up producing and being a beast somewhere else so be it. He’s shown nothing thus far to indicate he’s a big time edge rusher
I think it’s almost a must to get Jackson back at full time FS, him playing in the box negates his ball hawking abilities
Not sure if that signing isn’t anything more than giving him a chance. I don’t see that being the only addition to the position. If it is... we in trouble
