Andy talks about joining Liverpool around the 6:30 mark. I didn't know that we had made contact the year before when he came up with Hull, but waited till the next year to sign him. I don't know if Andy for £8 million or Coutinho for £8.5 million and selling him for £142 million is the better deal. But Andy is a better leftback than Coutinho is a 10/inside winger.
At the time, I was upset we were letting him go in January without a direct replacement when we were trying to secure 4th and make a run in the Champions League. But it being January probably pushed up his price 30% and we made the final and got 4th. Plus we added Van Dyke in January. And looking back, Coutinho for VVD plus ~£67 million is basically erotic fiction.
Ox is starting. Good, because Spurs may well park the bus today. Then again, we don’t have a lot of other options in midfield.
