Female. I think she went there for drinks one time and liked the drinks. I've never had a bad experience at Flemings or Seasons 52; guess I'm just surprised that Village Tavern can compete at all.
Not terrible, but few chains are truly good. People tend to go to them because of consistency and/or familiarity. Being at the summit, all three of those places are going to get a lot of one-off, non-local customers and expense accounts.
I’ve eaten at all three, but I don’t recall going to any of them in any context other than work-related or because I got a gift card or something. I’d put all three in the same tier for what they are.
Thinking about cruising laps in front of the movie place at the Summit in my new jacked up truck I got for Christmas if any of y’all want to come. I’ll be blasting rap music, too.
We rotate all those places with vendors. I work in the steel industry and mill reps will come and stay at one of the hotels at the summit and will exclusivity eat at the dozen chains around there. Flemings, Papadeaux, Seasons 52, Perry's, etc. It's all pretty good, but I can't imagine paying my own money at those places.
I was pleasantly surprised that the TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl was still being aired on Jox during my commute home from work earlier. I didn't believe that I would catch any of the action with the early kick and me having to work today. Unfortunately the game was well out of hand at this point with 9 minutes left in the 4th. Also it's a damn shame that the Bearcat and Eagle fans had to sit in the rain because the City Council and the County Commission can't scrape up enough cash to put a retractable dome on The Old Gray Lady. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just a roof. Hell, something in the same ballpark as the trash bag that the Twins used to cover the folded stands in the outfield of the old Metro Dome would work. It should be a top priority with the World Games coming in 2021. Anyways..... Hope you guys are having a great new year so far.
Sounds like they just found a body buried in Hueytown. They were working on a tip in the missing Paighton girls case but haven’t made a positive ID yet
No idea how much that would cost but I doubt they’ll sink any more money in Legion Field with Protective Stadium debuting next year.
Not serious. I was just going along with the crazy suggestions that have been thrown around for years now. I should have included a beluga whale exhibit in the endzone to my post.
We got a reservation the day before and they stuck us in the event space outside the restaurant in cheap rental tables and chairs. They were terribly understaffed and clearly just decided last minute to throw some tables and chairs in the side room and serve more people tonight. Sat down it’s a prix fixe menu: a glass of champagne, shared appetizer per couple, individual salad, individual entree shared dessert per couple. It took over 45 minutes to get our drinks, that we had to walk to the bar and get ourselves. After an hour the appetizer came. Was supposed to be baked feta but was three tiny pieces of cold feta drowning in a lukewarm marina with cold buttery limp bread. After 30 more minutes and only having a drink, a terrible app, we asked the waiter to close our tabs that we would pay for what we had but we wanted out. The manager came over kind of shocked that we wanted to leave and apologized for the slow service. He said they had fired our salads and asked if we wanted those as not to waste them. We said sure but still bring our checks. The waiter brings our salads, realizes they aren't ours and takes them to another table. We told him again to bring the checks so we could leave. We got charged for half the meal to have a glass of champagne, and an app that wasn't eaten (they didn't charge for drinks). As we walked out there was another couple who was also leaving that was frustrated. They said they waited 30 minutes past their reservation time and decided to walk out.
Roots and Revelry has been a disaster every time I went outside of the first trip. I have a growing problem in this city going to expensive shitty places wondering why I am not at a Frank Stitt place instead.
The acoustics alone resulted in me hating that place but when you also factored in the progressively shittier food, the groups of terrible women at brunch, and the bad service it blew my mind that it could still be as popular as it was.
I went to Roots and Revelry for brunch one time, we were some of the only people in there and it still took forever just to have someone bring us menus.
It amazes me the number of places that have terrible service. It's not just restaurants either. I thought that they might have been discriminating against me but after scrolling through this thread I have changed my mind.
This is about to be here pretty soon. Area of rotation in the Coker area, downtown Tuscaloosa/Northport in the next 10min. We’ve had some crazy wind gusts all day long.
We both know a lawyer (initials RR) that had this happen. Fell on the nursery, if I remember, but they weren't home (or at least the kids weren't injured). Hope you all are able to get it fixed well and quickly.
What are yalls preferred day drinking spots on a marvelous weather day like this I usually just hit one or a couple of the breweries but seeing if there’s anything obvious I’m missing cause my mental capacity is not strong at the moment
I used Gray's a few times. They did a good job. Had a tree total my car in my front yard a few years ago. Not a fun experience.
Moe’s isn’t a bad spot for sitting outside and people watching, even if it’s not a Birmingham original. I also usually stick to breweries though.
just caught up on the thread, glad everyone is safe. Have you thought about doing anything with the salvaged wood?
I know atomic has non alcoholic beer on the menu. Queens park has non alcoholic cocktails on their menu, but I know Collins and atomic can also make a non alcoholic cocktail.
I am trying to find a loft to purchase downtown but there is so little inventory. Really want to find a space that we could improve and make some money off of in the long run, but it seems we may be a few years late to the party. I have a feeling that this is going to be a frustrating process.
Lakeview has gone to shit, I live in the neighborhood and don't even recommend places there anymore. All the restaurants sucks, the people who frequent the bars and restaurants are trash (thanks Sidebar and Moe's) and there are more vagrant junkies taking up residence then I have ever seen before. Birmingham entertainment districts, ranked: 1) Morris Ave - 3rd Ave N b/t 20-24th (do we call this the loft district?) 2) Avondale 3) Five Points South (on the rise) 4) Lakeview 5) Uptown
