the end of that season made me think it was certainly possible that even if Wayne Williams was killing black children in Atlanta, he wasn't the only one. and the APD was complicit in a cover-up. is that part proven to be historically accurate?
From what I've read nothing has been proven but suspected by many. They basically used his arrest to tie all of the murders to him and sweep the rest under the rug.
I suspect he didn't kill them all, but did kill many of them. After watching the documentary it is apparent that the KKK may have committed at least one and maybe more. I also question why girls are on the list. They never did pinpoint who he was targeting and it may have shifted. The key though for those who were part of the mass murder spree is that it stopped when they identified him on the bridge. Some say, well the KKK knew that someone was arrested so they were calculated and stop killing to get them off the sent, but that wouldn't make sense because the bridge was not public and took place a few weeks to months prior to his arrest (not 100% sure). That said, I guess the police could have informed the KKK if there were members of both. Just feels overly conspiratorial.
https://wickedwe.com/lorenzo-j-gilyard-jr/ Interesting there was a black serial killer from KC that never heard of before. There is a Netflix series with Piers Morgan where he interviews him. Was convicted of 12-13 murders, charged with multiple rapes. He dumped the bodies on Troost Blvd. Not shocking sincr its not a great area and some of the women were prostitutes.
Right after the 4th episode with the issue with Bill's family my wife hasn't had the heart watch it. Need to pick it back up.
Finished it last night. Might be my favorite Netflix show ever. For thos of you with little kids, Ford is the voice of the guy in Frozen. Not ashamed to admit I recognized his voice.
Think there's no question it is for me. I think the subject matter is right up Fincher's alley too so hopefully he doesn't get bored or whatever happened when he kinda just stopped being a part of House of Cards after the first season.
Watched 60 minutes and there was a story about 79 year old Samuel Little who was in prison for 3 murders, but confessed to 90 more murders from 70s to 2004. They had details lined up and more than 50 matched details so far. He was able to draw pictures and list details on locations for all of them. He was african american and killed prostitutes and then moved away from the area so he was under the radar.
Haven’t read a single post ITT to avoid spoilers. I’m super late here, but my wife and I finally got around to starting this the other night. We’re through episode 7 of season 1 and loving it.
I don't think so. I'm sure they will still sprinkle him in some but we are still a ways from when he actually gets caught.
Based on this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_serial_killers_in_the_United_States you could do Robert Lee Yates from the early/mid 80s (no idea when there'd be a pattern) up until his arrest in 2000. BTK was arrested in 2005 so they could get to him next season and Yates would be the bridge between Williams and the ATL child murders and BTK.
I understand wanting to want to focus on your movie. But Love, Death, and Robots? Seriously? I enjoyed the series of shorts, but prioritize it over what is obviously your hit series? Seems like he doesn’t know how to properly connect all the plot lines he created throughout the first two seasons of Mindhunter.
If the stuff about trying to get a bigger budget is true, Netflix has an issue with paying actors to keep shows going after it becomes popular. They'd rather create a new series rather than having to pay actors more on a second contract.
I'm guessing that is at the heart of this. He probably asked for money and they said no so he just walked away.
HBO started their doc series on the Atlanta child murders tonight. 45 minutes in and this is rough due to how graphic it is.
I watched the first ep. I didn’t think it was too graphic. There weren’t a ton of awful photos or descriptions.
Recently started this. I’m on S1E3. The dude who plays Kemper is incredible. Just got to the part where he’s casually talking about cutting off his mom’s head and then someone delivers a pizza and he gets all excited and says “you guys!” Superb casting and creepy as fuck.
that show was so good, so low key but always interesting. No idea why they dropped it. Probably because it’s not a popular subject
The show isn't dead. It just doesn't have a definite future because Fincher was doing other stuff so he wanted to let the cast be free to do other stuff as well. Then the pandemic happened which pushed everything back even more. I'd say the chance of us getting more seasons is higher than the chance of us not getting more seasons.
Just watched the Headline News show on this one this morning. Was thinking the same thing and then read your post. Now I’m sad
I don't know. Reports made it seem like Fincher had lost complete interest in continuing especially with how draining S2 was on him. Hope he just needed a break from it.
Didn't he kind of shatter a lot of thoughts around serial killers? Since he was a family man and all that.
Not sure on that. Everything I've heard is that he basically just read about what previous killers did and tried to copy them. Plus he did a lot of dumb shit like forgetting to pick up evidence and whatnot. Also gave himself the lame nickname and would legit reach out to the media because they weren't covering him more. I think the only real smart thing he did was the whole ADT gig where he used that to scope out homes/victims. https://www.biography.com/news/btk-killer-meaning-dennis-rader-clues I've listened to far too many serial killer podcasts and he's always seemed meh to me.
He did considering he was a completely normal family type of guy. He also kept law enforcement on their toes for decades trying to catch him and only really got caught due to not knowing about modernized technology.
Just finished episode eight and the show is excellent. Only complaint I have thus far is the shit with Carr and the cats. Maybe there’ll be some payoff with it but I have very little interest in those scenes.
All caught up. Season two was great and I plan on watching the HBO doc on the Atlanta child murders here soon. Again I think BTK is a little lame in some regards, but the way the show has been building it up has been great. Will be very disappointed if there’s no third season.
