Found an act 6 MWND and last years Bourye so I grabbed those to compare to the Act 7 and this years Bourye. He grabbed the McKenna 10 out the back for me and he only had 4 bottles left of the store pick EG so I grabbed another one since it’s really good for the $25 price. I’m running out of space
I just bought one from Martin's in New Orleans without the age on the bottle, but I'm not sure if that's consistent across the board for their barrel selections.
The store picks I have from Kentucky have the age on the special label. My State of Ohio pick does not. Sometimes they put a secondary label on the side or bottom with age statement.
Ya if I can pick what else I want I’m ok with it, but my store forces something on you so I just don’t buy it.
Let me say this, I don’t know who the fuck is buying Blantons just to sell it on the secondary market. From a unit economics standpoint, let’s assume you pay retail of $60 and tax let’s call it at 5% you’re at $63 cost there, if you sell it for $80-85 shipped your probably paying $10-12 to ship. So your cost is around $75. Is the work to ship a bottle worth the $5-10 you would make? I just don’t understand it. I can at least understand the economic benefit of buying rarer bottles to sell, but I don’t get why people do it with Blantons at all.
I know everyone knows it and this is a 100% ok boomer post, but the McKenna thievery is the most on brand bourbon thing ever. Stores couldn’t give that shit away 12-18 months ago for $30 (even after it won its first SF spirits award). Now it’s allocated product at $50+.
Just made a pretty incredible spin on a Manhattan that I came up with. I don't really like Manhattan's otherwise. Since I am in NY I will call it the Big Apple Manhattan (BAM!) 2 parts Clyde May's Alabama Style 110 Proof Special Reserve (barreled with dried apples) 1 part Antica Vermouth splash of apple blossom bitters Shaken vigorously in a shaker with one large cube and two pieces of cut up apple.
I honestly think most people are drinking or saving them now. I rarely see just standard Blanton’s pop up on secondary groups, but it’s by far the go-to “Special” bourbon for an entire subset of bourbon drinkers. My local store owner said he is asked about Blanton’s probably 3 times more frequently than the next thing. Even folks that solely drink cocktails seem to know about and want Blanton’s.
That’s why I was wondering how good a price it was at $59 because this is the only time I’ve seen it around in town since I’ve been hunting. When I checked online I saw $85 and up
Any good liquor stores I should hit up while I’m in NOLA this weekend? Preferably ones near the Quarter or Garden District because that’s where I’ll be the whole time.
I’ve heard that there’s lots of good bourbon to be found throughout the NO area because of “quantity over quality” consumption habits of the city. That sounds like a load of bullshit to me, but best of luck and happy hunting.
Liquor store on St Charles next to lake ponchartrain hotel wasn't bad, I'd recommend going further north and west though
So since jumping in a few weeks ago i've picked up a couple bottles to try and here's how i'd rank what i've had so far. 1) McKenna 10 2) Michters 3) Wellers Special Reserve 4) Eagle Rare I'm not sure what that says about what I like Haven't opened he Dovetail yet, gonna work my way up to it.
Which Michters is that? Yes that dovetail won’t compare to any of those. It is super tasty but really hot.
I feel the Eagle Rare is a tad overrated after first go and would also rank a lot of the bottles I’ve gotten so far over it. I enjoyed Rowans Creek a lot more and it’s a cheaper price
stopped at a store today, saw a window sign for 1.75s of bulleit for 49.99 turned around and got back in the car
That’s the price range it definitely belongs in. I can find Buffalo Trace everywhere too for $30-$40.
Out making a grocery run this morning and grabbed a bottle of gin from my local state controlled liquor store, giant eagle, in Columbus chit chatted a bit with the cashier, Giant Eagle releases their new bourbon on Saturdays. She said people began lining up at 4:30am this past Saturday. I laughed and said this shit is out of hand. She smiled looked me dead in the eyes and goes, “these motherfuckers don’t even drink the bottles” Amen, drink your liquor
Someone I knows wife “won” a Stagg. IE, he signed her up and I told him about the raffle last year. They will 100% drink it. Makes me happy.
