The battles are $30 more and have 5 vs 4 Ball bearings. Only difference. Fierce is still all metal body (which is why I like it compared to the mid level shimano reels) Rinse it off every trip. Pull it apart and re-grease 2x a year, or let a shop do it for a small amount. I am 80% fly now, but these reels treated me well in Louisiana for a week last fall. Came back and bought 2 more fierce 2 on close out.
Gotcha, I just need something that will take a beating. Got a decent rod on the way so jsut need a reel to pair it with
Another Steamboat Springs trip. If you ever get the chance to fish there, do it. We spent a full day on private water on the Elk catching the fat ones, a half day on the upper Elk with tons of those little cutties on skinny water gobbling up parachute adams and zebra midges, and a half day on the Yampa right around town. The first pic is a couple blocks from a bar and a brewery we hit still in wet fishing pants and wading boots. Just chuck the gear in the truck and walk across the street. Amazing town and so many options within an hour.
Video is still raw and im editing it in youtube and being processed but this was my first time catching a tailing red in a flood tide. I was pumped.
He’s one of the coolest people on the planet. The Savenger’s Guide to Haute Cuisine is Bourdain-like.
i am really just getting started. always heard him through other pods and shows, then he signed april vokey and netflix added a few seasons of his show.
i am going to sit in on a turkey hunt this year. just to experience it. i always get meat from coworkers and friends, but ive never wanted to participate before. also i always release my fish. feel like i’m missing out on something now.
Honestly, watching them strut and hearing them worked is the best part. I might go do that in the protected area near me. Just call them up and watch. I'll have to check if that is leagal first though.
Watch the new season on Netflix. There's a turkey hunt with 2 girls who've never hunted before. One of the best episodes of the entire series
I was sitting outside my buddies cabin last weekend and they ask me what camo pattern i have on. "Oh it's first lite." In a moment of self reflection I realize that I am wearing first lite pants and jacket while a pair of vortex binoculars and a benchmade knife sit in my backpack. That was the moment that I realized I was an official Rinela fanboy.
This is me. Never been hunting, but absolutely love meateater and pretty much anything else Rinella does.
think im starting to find wild rainbows in east tn. they still stock this area with rainbows, but i have been catching super clean guys in the 4-6” range, which is smaller than stocking size.
they used to clip ours here, but stopped in the last few years. usually the pectoral and anal fins will be beat up on the stockers. the SC and Western NC hatcheries have gotten better growing healthier looking fish.
Won the new Orvis Recon 2 in the raffle at Fly Fishing Club tonight. 9' 5wt, really excited because I had told Mom earlier in the evening I would give her my Recon bc she is attending the Georgia Women's Fly Fishing event next month and wants a rod to take back to the Tetons this year. Had been using my Sage Foundation for the last few trout outings as I was so annoyed with how long it took to repair the broken tip from the redeye bass tournament in June.
There are now 8 fly rods in the house, 3-9 and 4 milk cartons full of gear. Going to Turks and Caicos in November for bones and doing 2 days guided for reds in Charleston in April before a bachelor party. Christmas present from my wife was a guide on 30A in May for reds. This is gonna be a great year.
Who’s the guide on 30a? My parents have a place down there but I’ve only been offshore out of Panama City. Would like to have an option for inshore too, let us know how it goes.
Kid has limited my fishing tremendously, but looking forward to when I can share it with him. Trout were just starting to heat up when he was born
Going to be driving back to Maine from Florida in late April. The plan is to hit Great Smoky and Shenandoah. We will only have a day in each so I might fish rather than hike if anyone in this thread can sway me in that direction. I am looking at camping at Big Creek in Smoky. Anyone fish this area? Late April good? Any recs in Shenandoah, preferably close to Skyline Drive? Thanks.
This is the local guide by me and he is great. His dad is in a facebook group with me and my cousin knows him.
Who are you fishing with on 30A? Reds are always fun, but chasing jacks on the beach that time of year is something else.
i will definitely fish in the rain and snow, but muddy water shuts them down or forces them into areas that make fishing difficult. the only clear rivers right now are the tailwaters, and the tailwaters are all moving water out of the reservoirs. without a drift boat or jet boat those tailwaters are off limits to me.
the south holston for instance was sluicing over 1000 cfs last sunday. i have waded 450 and it was really powerful.
i have never fished Big Creek, but the Pigeon River tailwater is nearby and is my favorite water for smallmouth. iin the Rapidan Wildlife management area you have a few options. i found this link with a quick google. https://www.blueridgeoutdoors.com/f...y-fishing-holes-along-the-blue-ridge-parkway/ the shenandoah river just west of the parkway is loaded with smallmouth, you can fish with small spinners and catch dozens of them.
Hope to be getting some fishing in soon in Arkansas. Reports are white bass at Lake Millwood, and walleye in the Ouachita river.
This is the time when I get so itchy to get out. Be another couple months before it's possible, probably, but man. Struggle is real.
Thanks, dude! I'm flying down and won't be checking a bag so I'll probably just bring a small 3 wt. and go for small streams and pocket water. I probably should have said that before. I do appreciate the advice, though!
Anyone interested in fly fishing for tarpon, check.out these pod casts by Andy Mill. Really great stories from the hayday of Homosassa tarpon fly fishing. And some fish porn-
Dave Posey for bay kayak fishing and then went Memorial Day on a skeeter with Panhandle Fishing Charters - Joey. The Trippy Mahi guys I've heard are good, My phone screen is my wife holding a dolphin proudly with a gaff. It was awesome. Check out sandbar_flies on ig, Nick is an incredible fly tyer and came a few months ago for our fly tying at the local shop. The Orvis Atlanta and Destin store fishing managers are brothers and can help. I'm also taking my gheeno to 30A in May to go on my own. Maiden voyage in 2 weeks.
