I like Kreider as a player, but he’s in that Wayne Simmons territory of guys people like Pierre LeBrun love because they still love the old style of hockey. Inevitably they make people believe there is more value in that kind of guy than league executives do.
He’s not even necessarily a tough player. He’s just super reckless when he goes to the net and seemingly doesn’t give a shit.
At least Kreider has real talent unlike a guy like Strome who is the next disastrous contract that the idiot GM is going to hand out.
Kreider’s age makes his next contract a major risk for whoever is taking it on. It doesn’t excuse the Rangers from making other possible bad deals. But it’s most certainly not a deal they should want to take on moving forward.
Strome is on pace for 22 more points this season than Kreider’s career high. He’s also younger and plays a position that is way more of a need for the Rangers organization. Sure, they’re gonna overpay for him based on this one season and then it will be interesting to see if he’s half the player going forward with possible different line mates. But if you keep him with Panarin, the Rangers 2C problems are immediately solved. It’s not really even a debate which one they should keep around. I just hope the Strome contract isn’t for true 2C money.
This is complete and utter nonsense. Strome at best is a third line player who is getting propped up playing with Panarin who is the best Rangers player in 20 years. Flip Chytil and Strome in the lineup and I bet Strome doesn't put up more than 10 points the rest of the season playing with Howden and Kakko while Chytil would average at least a point per game playing with Panarin. I'm sure that this dopey front office will be fooled into thinking that Strome has some sort of chemistry with Panarin when its a fact that anyone will put up numbers playing with a superstar like that. If Strome ends up getting a 5 yr contract for 6 million or so per season it will be every bit as stupid as the Trouba, Staal, and Girardi contracts were.
I can get behind the reasoning of not resigning Kreider but it would be a far better deal than the complete waste of money to Trouba and the soon to be long term deal with Strome.
Strome previously had a season that was 3 points off Kreider’s career high, so while this season is still an anomaly it’s not like he was a total waste previously. He can still be just as good as Kreider without Panarin. Ultimately, I’m willing to admit that Strome is a complimentary 2C at best but not a true one. The bigger issue here is how overrated Kreider is by Rangers fans. He’s just not all that good at all, and completely lacks consistency. He’s the perfect rental player that can score in bunches in the postseason if the timing is right. But long term, he’s not worth a big contract. So the Rangers need to maximize his rental return and then move the hell on.
Kreider is big, strong, and fast. He looks like he should physically dominate, yet he disappears for weeks at a time. It’s infuriating
Kreider is much better than Strome and there is no way that Strome is a number 2 center on anything other than a bottom feeding team. Let Strome produce away from Panarin which will not happen before committing to him long term.
He is still a better bet long term than a guy producing mediocre numbers playing with one of the best players in the league.
You are basically committing to playing Kassian with McDavid for the next four years to even try to justify that deal.
He really is the most overrated GM possibly of all time (if anyone thinks of him positively these days). Since the salary cap came about he is about 3/50 on good deals.
I defended him until the summer of Stamkos. That Helm deal burnt it down. Frans was just icing on the cake.
Pat Maroon played with a younger not as good McDavid, produced more, and has gotten peanuts the last two years.
Hey guys I know I’m a stranger around these parts but I’m just popping by to say Cale Makar is unreal, thanks
Yeah it might be close to panic switch time for the Sharks. Burns has been really bad this year and looks like he’s hitting the age wall already. Karlsson is still very good but he’s lost a step. They’re gonna have to overpay Labanc a bit next year after the huge solid he did them, and Vlasic isn’t getting any younger either. If they can’t even win now they’re in store for a lot of bad years.
Sens had the best odds ( before last nights games ) of winning the top pick in the draft when you combine the two picks. In the end if they can get a top 3 and a top 7 pick fans will be ecstatic.
