If you want to say he wasn't Baker or Kyler, ok. I get it. Saying he was bad is just fucking ignorant. And saying "Players are glad he's gone!!!" is some next level deflection to blame something other than your HC that refuses to attempt to play defense.
that's a fair take. But if you watch what Lincoln does game in and game out, you see the mismatches and advantages that simply weren't taken care of. Like I said, the number of times you could see WR's open downfield, or open running room for a RB if the propper give is done on a zone-read, you see the amount of 'easy' misses that were consistent with Jalen. Baker/Kyler certainly brings this up as a counterpoint, because it was a ridiculous run of talent at that position, but they also were greatly elevated because of the guy coaching him. Both are the shortest 1st overall picks in the history, Baker was low rated, Kyler was highly rated but didn't show the same abilities at his previous stop. Lincoln's coaching obviously has to account in the equation. It will be interesting to see this next fall with a #1 recruit QB under Lincoln. As a counterpoint to myself, I do wonder what Jalen would have looked like if he had followed the path of the other two, where they were in norman under lincoln for a year before being handed the reigns. (Baker was an offseason but still had a 'learning year'). I wonder if a full year of progression some of those traits could have been coached out that we didn't have time in 9 months.
he was pretty fucking bad at kstate and couldn’t do anything against lsu soooo... what are you trying to do here lol
Him having a shit attitude is new and surprising. But Bama fans have been saying the same thing about his football limitations for years.
You act as if he was benched for some scrub. You continue to show your ignorance. But sure keep blaming all OU problems on Jalen. OU had the same issue this year as it has the last few years and it wasn't QB.
a bunch of alabama fans are mad that oklahoma fans don’t think a former alabama player that transferred because he lost his job was also not good at his new school and acted like an asshole the whole time like, what?
he was benched for a true freshman 5* you know, the exact same thing that oklahoma fans wanted to happen this year
i know you don’t get paid $4 million to watch film but i’ll direct you to the game film. i would love an honest assessment throwing screens to ceedee that get taken 75 yards to the house, but yeah, great throw jalen!
You realize there's a wide gap between great and bad right? I don't think anyone is saying he was great. Saying he was bad shows your ignorance.
no, disagreeing with me shows your ignorance. you didn’t watch any of his games, yet know more about it than i do? okay bud he was bad. deal with it?
venables got fired for a reason dude. i have stated numerous times that it became apparent that a. it was more bob’s fault than anything and b. venables needed a change of scenery if jalen hurts goes in the 1st round and lights it up in the nfl, i will change my stance. but there is literally zero chance that happens
I would agree with dblplay1212 however, because dallasdawg also is a fan of UGA, he is probably better suited to identify shitty QB play than anyone else on this board.
There's a good bit of the Champs thread that made almost these exact same arguments. There's also a contingent that get their jimmies rustled when his deficiencies are pointed out.
using college PFF grades for anything is never going to win an argument with me. Those guys have shown their vast inability to grade the college game since they got into it. Think it just got too big for them, too many games, and hired too many subpar graders to judge them. Our home site would show the PFF grades of OU games after each game and they were laughably bad. Even our main moderator who goes back and grades the game with a monday watch was just kind of like when he realized how bad they were doing. yeah, it's hard to show without examples. it's not like he was rude or yelled at anyone, he had an attitude like OU was lucky to be breathing the same air as him, like he was the savior of OU football. It was pretty ironic considering the level of play of his two predecessors. I mean QB isn't exactly something we've been hurting for recently. I think by the end of the year the media was pretty done with his short answers and general smugness. I think if he had accomplished more/more time there, it would have played better, but it felt pretty arrogant, especially when the turnover totals started piling up.
imagine being so privileged you shit on a qb that had a better season than at least 95% of the qbs in cfb, won you your conference, and got you to the playoffs meanwhile poster boys murray and baker didn’t win shit either maybe just maybe it’s an issue with the defense lmao
i didn't even go into his accuracy issues. They weren't damning, but they were present. Those were the biggest things that I thought single handedly frustrated Lincoln.
the defense is not what we are arguing here (same defense that went from 115th or so to 35th or so after a coordinator change)
did I ever defend the defense? We were HISTORICALLY bad under Mike, so much so that our improvement to the 30-40's this season was a historical jump, and still got embarrassed. It was a side of the ball that was so mismanaged under Bob/Mike that it's going to take years to get over. That said, watching every game this season closely, it was NIGHT/DAY from last year, and was actually the reason we won many of the later games in spite of Jalen's turnovers.
I realized I have dbl on ignore and more of this thread makes sense now... I really was starting to worry about dallasdawg for a minute (i mean we always worry about him, but I was starting to get the feeling)
ahh yeah that same defense that allowed burrow to have one of the greatest, if not greatest games i’ve seen from a college qb you’re right what happened with murray if the defense was so improved?
Nobody has argued he's great. He has his flaws. Saying he was "bad" this year is some ignorant shit though. There were only a handful of QB's that were better. And the "PLAYERS ARE GLAD HE'S GONE YEEEEEEEEEEEE" shtick is laughably transparent.
Clemson fans let the bus roll over him on the way out, unlike Jalen's Bama Stans which apparently remain loyal
Bryant set bridges a blaze on his way out. He also tried to start an uprising in the locker room and the team captains squashed that shit with a quickness.
the way my friends and I had this discussion during the season, was judging him on the "any team" scale. If we took Jalen off a top 5 team, and dropped him to a middle of the road club, how would he/the team fair? AKA Kelly Bryant from Clemson to Mizzou. the main trait, if they came to your home school, as the opposing QB, how fearful woudl you be of them that they could pull the upset? Based off that, Jalen coming to Norman and pulling off the upset with a lesser talented squad, would have scared me on a 5-6 out of 10 on the scale. I think Jalen has high athletic abilities, would be able to move the chains with his legs, but wouldn't be able to stress the pass defense high enough without Bama/OU WR's running all over the field, and forcing him to fit it into actual accurate windows, on time etc. His blocking has been much better than opponents at every stop, and don't think he's that good of a runner unless he has open field that his top speed can churn up, as he doesn't make a ton on his own. He's also easier to scheme against due to his limited vision. That's the most impartial view we took of it this year.
2 of their best 3 players were suspended no one is arguing that oklahoma should have even been there kenneth murray? he is getting mocked in the 1st round in just about every mock?
i honestly think this speaks more to Lincoln vs. the Big 12 than I do any of those QBs, Baker and Kyler included (who are both much better than Jalen, but their competition was not good, lets be honest). OU has hilariously outrecruited the Big 12 on such a scale league play is bad, other than Texas, and well, they're Texas
you are literally just quoting numbers from a paper. that is your only argument, and you’re calling me ignorant? okay dude
JT Barrett a million records in college and he wasn't great. He was a solid college QB in a great situation. I guess what I'm trying to say is that stats don't even tell half the story.
Bad QB's don't put up those numbers. Those numbers don't make him great, but bad QB's are incapable of those numbers. As I said earlier, there's a huge gap between great and bad. Anything short of great, meaning 1st round talent, is bad. That shows your ignorance.
Bama fans aren't saying Hurts great. We are saying he wasn't horrible and losing OU games like this idiot dallas is saying.
